Movies I watched in 2016. Vague spoilers.

Zootopia
Nick and Judy are both great~ (and such cuties). Really enjoyed their banter and how they worked together. I was surprised by how willing the movie was to touch upon serious topics like prejudice and stereotypes. Thought it handled those topics well.

Captain America: Civil War
Heh, lots of funny Civil War memes came out of this movie. Captain America vs Iron Man does make for quite a scene, though I hadn't thought they would choose the sides they did. Also, so many characters. So many. I kind of miss it when the crew was smaller. But I do look forward to the individual movies of the new characters. Wonder where the Avengers will head after this break up.

The Jungle Book
I haven't watched the original animation. So this was new to me. Liked the wolves. Felt really bad about the fire. I was glad Mowgli made the choice he made at the end. Families of choice are just as important! Turns out the ending is different from the animated movie's, but I didn't know that.

Finding Dory
Dory is such a sweetheart, and Hank is an awesome octopus. I loved Marlin and Nemo working together. It's so great to be able to see them on the screen together after the ordeal they went through in Finding Nemo. I remember crying multiple times during the movie. :') Really happy for Dory!

Doctor Strange
I've been reading Avenger fic for years, and Doctor Strange sometimes shows up in them. Now I finally know who he is. XD Didn't really expect Benedict Cumberbatch to join the MCU. I look forward to Doctor Strange becoming more involved with the rest of the cast. His brand of magic is sure unique, and the Cloak of Levitation is the best. The teaser at the end of the movie made me look forward to Thor: Ragnarok. (and got me back into reading Loki fic, ahaha)

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The movie was really more about losing the fantastic beasts, hahaha, and getting caught up in a conspiracy while the creatures ran amok. But it was great seeing the Harry Potter world being expanded and getting to see the adult community use magic when the original series mostly focused on schoolkids. Jacob was such a fun character and probably meant somewhat as a stand-in for the audience observing the world of magic. Got a bit teary-eyed for him at the end. Newt Scamander was a charming protagonist. His biography says that his wife is Tina, so looks like this movie showed their first meeting. :D This probably means we'll be seeing more of both characters in the next movie? I hope so.

Moana
I cried many times. :') Movie was touching and beautiful. The songs as well. They were super poignant and really showed Moana's struggles and growth. I didn't feel Maui's song was all that catchy, but now whenever I hear people say "You're welcome," I hear that song...

Rogue One
K-2SO was the best! As for the rest... I came out of the movie feeling, "What." I guess I just don't care for these kinds of endings. They make me wonder what the point was... But eh, I know it was a prequel and had to fit into the rest of the story. *shrugs* It was cool having the universe expanded like this though.

Livejournal, why do your cuts look so weird now? D: This makes me not want to use LJ-cuts anymore. Anyway, testing delayed/scheduled posting (this is a feature I like)... so people won't know how late I stayed up. *coughs* I was in the middle of finally commenting on people's posts when my keyboard suddenly stopped working (what's wrong??) so the posts are once again going into my saved tabs!

Yu Wo posted part 3 of No Hero v7! More of Daren and his butler~. :D She has also plurked a hilarious story about Judgment. She owed one of her writer friends 2 stories, so she's been working on that. One is a BL story. She posted it locked in her blog, but the password is in the entry itself. XD; I don't think I actually know the characters. The second fic she owed was "Judgment doing it himself" which a lot of people read as "Judgment doing himself..." OTL. Stop it with the dirty minds!! |D;;; In the end, Yu Wo decided to write "a day in the life of Judgment", so we get to follow Judgment for a full day. :D She challenged herself to writing the story in real time through plurks, so I was watching gleefully as each plurk went up. The story has been awwwwweeeesome so far because we get to stalk Judgment! I can't wait until she completes it (she stopped at one point and went to sleep and said that she'd finish up the rest and post it to her blog). The story takes place after volume 8's conclusion. Three years, to be exact! So it'll be quite a while before we ever see this translated. ^^;; I'm really loving this revisiting of the LSK characters. I really hope she'll write more of the LSK verse.

Also, new No Hero merchandise will be sold between 4/20 and 4/29 (preorder).

My year-in-fic! Like every year, I ended up writing a lot less than I'd have liked. I only managed one of my writing resolutions I made for 2010, and that was writing for yuletide. I also realized a few things about my writing (or more like, was reminded of a few things...), and the number one thing is...

- I cannot write without deadlines. The things I wrote this year were almost all for fic exchanges, or they had self-imposed deadlines. (And then there was NaNo with one of the toughest deadlines!)

Maybe I should set more self-imposed deadlines for myself.

Notes: Written for my Magic and Fantasy in Young Adult Literature class. It's our last assignment where we get to cross HP with any of the other books we've read. I ran out of time...so beware. This was written in 15 minutes...and I really can't write fast. Kind of pointless. (Too bad it doesn't qualify for my crossovers100 claim.) You only need knowledge about the first book from each series (though who hasn't read all of HP yet for those who've read the first book before??) I kind of wanted to write something for HP x Young Wizards too. For my own amusement, I'd like to write His Dark Materials x Young Wizards. There's just so many similarities!

 

I think I should practice speed-writing more.

Campbell, the author of my historical linguistics textbook, is a Hermione/Ron fan. *nods*

At first, I thought I thinking about hp too much when I was reading my textbook. I saw Harry and Ron's names in an example sentence and just shrugged it off as coincidence. After all...they're somewhat common names, right? But then, I saw Hermione's name. Not common. And the sentence that it was in...

(1) Hermione is going to marry Ron.

Now, that couldn't be coincidence at all. And then of course, he had to smack me in the head with "Ron is going to like Hermione. Hermione is going to go to Hogwarts."

Right. Hogwarts.

Well, if Campbell had intended to catch my attention, he sure did. Why didn't he mention Remus somewhere while he was at it? D=
