Finished reading~. Like the title suggests, the "heroes" storm a castle in this book. :3

Summary:

Prince Liam, Prince Frederic, Prince Duncan, and Prince Gustav, the charming princes from the fairy tales of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Briar Rose, saved the countryside from an evil witch in The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom. And now, they have to save the day again, by keeping a magical object from falling into the hands of power-mad warlords who would use it for evil.

This second book in the series is a pretty effective sequel that brings the characters back together again. I loved the first book for introducing all the characters. The back stories of the princes are all very amusing (and sometimes farfetched). This second book doesn't forget any of the details, and no one's past is left unturned. Frederic was traumatized by the tiger El Stripo when he was young. That tiger is back. Liam won Briar's hand in marriage because his father hired actors to pretend to be assassins for him to defeat when he was three. Well, we haven't heard the last of those actors who were wrongly imprisoned. I was quite amazed at how the characters were brought together (so many of them!). Even characters like Reese and Mr. Troll are back, and the girls are much more a part of the book this time. All four of them, plus Lila~! The princesses are pretty awesome. ;) I did feel that having so many characters bogged down the story a bit. It was definitely fun, but I missed being able to spend a lot of time with each character. Like... Gustav and Frederic never really spend time with each other, unlike the first book, and that's something I miss! ):

The ending is a cliffhanger. DDD: I was hoping for a more conclusive ending, but what it does is setup for the next book. Which I guess means there will definitely be a third book! And I think a fourth book? :O

Quotes from Part 1! More quotes later. XD;;

I tried to borrow the book from the library, but I was one step too late! When I got there, I checked the computers to find out where the book was (it was still available then), but when I got to the shelves, it was no longer there... Checking the computer again showed that it was checked out, ahhhh. What timing! Haha, I guess I should have requested the book after all. Most other libraries in the area are out too.

Darn, I was hoping to read a physical version of the book. In any case, I bought a kindle version and went crazy with highlighting. 8D I'll probably finish reading the book tomorrow~. So far, it's just as funny as the first book, and it almost feels like all of the characters in the first book will get involved somehow. (A ton of characters! I mean, even Reese's mom is involved, and she was only mentioned in the first book) Truly a sequel, since I'm sure people would be pretty lost about these characters without reading the first book, and it feels like this book picked up just where the last one left off.

I was so engrossed in reading that I didn't check up on my Animal Crossing game until just now, which means all of the shops in the game were closed, ahhhhhhh. Nooooo. XD;; Man, I have this feeling that this will happen to me a lot... playing during hours when the stores are closed since I'm such a night owl. -___-;;

1/2 Prince manhua enters finale!!!! What a journey! Only the sequel/side volume is left to be illustrated. Here's a pic of Lolidragon and Yang Ming's son, Long Ming! (I find Long Ming adorable~. Love his personality!)
I read this book yesterday. :3 I laughed in so many places. Awesome humor. Memorable characters. Very quirky (especially because of the omniscient narrator). This is the author's first book, and it seems that a sequel is slated for next year~.

Summary:
Prince Liam. Prince Frederic. Prince Duncan. Prince Gustav. You've never heard of them, have you? These are the princes who saved Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, respectively, and yet, thanks to those lousy bards who wrote the tales, you likely know them only as Prince Charming. But all of this is about to change. Rejected by their princesses and cast out of their castles, Liam, Frederic, Duncan, and Gustav stumble upon an evil plot that could endanger each of their kingdoms. Now it's up to them to triumph over their various shortcomings, take on trolls, bandits, dragons, witches, and other assorted terrors, and become the heroes no one ever thought they could be.

A great read especially for people who like to see fairy tales deconstructed. :) The princes get to do things, and the princesses save themselves.

Oh look it's not a fic post for once. I've been really bad at blogging and leaving comments. I actually don't have the next part of Bittersweet Sweetness done for this week because I haven't had too much alone time to write... D: So for anyone who's waiting for it... the wait will be a bit longer than usual.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I got flooded by so many, both in person and online. ♥ Haha, it makes turning older feel marginally better (I don't want to turn older!!) As for gifts, Arc send me a really cool bone necklace that arrived with perfect timing. I also received cute art from gem2niki and Elphie. Rykatu in the first one, and Sun in the second one~ :D (Rykatu is so cute!). My brother bought me Minecraft and is bent on stealing what little free time I have. I bought myself a smartphone! Finally saying goodbye to my 4 year old phone! Quite exciting! I just received it today and still need to tinker around a lot more to figure my way around. If anyone has any suggestions for apps I should get, let me know. :D

I've watched quite a few movies with friends in these past few weeks~. Random movie talk under the cut!

Hunger Games, Avengers, Dark Shadows )

I've been meaning to ramble off about current anime I'm following this season, but I've mostly fallen 1~2 weeks behind every series. But here's what I'm following. No blurbs. I've been slapping random screencaps of stuff I'm watching all over tumblr if anyone's interested. :3;;

New this season: Eureka seveN AO, Kimi to Boku s2, Ginga e Kickoff!, Hiiro no Kakera, Kuroko no Basket, Uchuu Kyoudai

Started watching but haven't gotten far (maybe watching?): Shirokuma Cafe, Sakamichi no Apollon

Plan on checking out: Accel World

Continuing from previous season: Hunter x Hunter, SKET Dance

Maybe dropping: Area no Kishi (it hasn't been animated in a very interesting way...I'm super behind with the anime now.)

My need to finish list is still the same as previous season's. When will I ever finish watching those series...

Out of the new series, my favorite is Ginga e Kickoff at the moment! It's so cute and I look forward to new episodes a whole lot.

Pottermore

lucathia: (fishbones: x'd out eyes)
Played around a bit with Pottermore today. I'm WildWolf10589 on there. I completely thought we'd be using our names, but it turns out that you must choose from a randomized list of names to protect your identity. So everyone has very random names with a bunch of numbers tacked on at the end. I hope there aren't too many other people named "WildWolf" around. =P

I clicked through Book 1, picked up a lot of random stuff, did not earn my house many points, had my browser crashed three times, but thought the overall experience was interesting. Lots of pretty backgrounds and scenery with some sound effects for all the different scenes in the books. Lots of information dumps. |D;; There's a long page just about different woods used in wands. I read through half of it before I had to take a break once I realized just how long the page was! I thought the section about Cherry was particularly interesting.

Cherry Wood )

My wand is 10 inches, unicorn hair, black walnut, unyielding. Apparently, the magical community never changed to the metric system... I'd always thought it was a localization thing that made the measurements appear in inches for me!

Black Walnut )

Interestingly enough, I got sorted into Ravenclaw. When asked previously what house I thought I'd be in for Harry Potter, I replied that I felt I would currently be in Hufflepuff but that I used to be much more of a Ravenclaw. Looks like I'm still quite a Ravenclaw. |D;;

Anyone on Pottermore? :3
Livejournal, why do your cuts look so weird now? D: This makes me not want to use LJ-cuts anymore. Anyway, testing delayed/scheduled posting (this is a feature I like)... so people won't know how late I stayed up. *coughs* I was in the middle of finally commenting on people's posts when my keyboard suddenly stopped working (what's wrong??) so the posts are once again going into my saved tabs!

5 Character Meme Redux

1. Leave a comment to this post, specifically saying that you would like a letter.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Post the names of five fictional characters whose names begin with that letter, and your thoughts on each. The characters can be from books, movies, or TV shows.

I received the letter D from [personal profile] darkicedragon. First person I thought of? Darkicedragon! :DDDD But I guess you're not a character. =P

I got tagged by [livejournal.com profile] absolutehymn007 for this ology meme. Have some Lucathiaology! That is way too long a name...

THE RULES: Once you have been tagged, you are supposed to wipe out my answers and supply your own. After, choose at least 10 people to be tagged. If you were tagged, it's because I want to know more about you.

(I'm not tagging anyone... whoever wants to do it... =P)

Let others know a little more about yourself! Re-post this as your name followed by "ology".

Yu Wo posted part 3 of No Hero v7! More of Daren and his butler~. :D She has also plurked a hilarious story about Judgment. She owed one of her writer friends 2 stories, so she's been working on that. One is a BL story. She posted it locked in her blog, but the password is in the entry itself. XD; I don't think I actually know the characters. The second fic she owed was "Judgment doing it himself" which a lot of people read as "Judgment doing himself..." OTL. Stop it with the dirty minds!! |D;;; In the end, Yu Wo decided to write "a day in the life of Judgment", so we get to follow Judgment for a full day. :D She challenged herself to writing the story in real time through plurks, so I was watching gleefully as each plurk went up. The story has been awwwwweeeesome so far because we get to stalk Judgment! I can't wait until she completes it (she stopped at one point and went to sleep and said that she'd finish up the rest and post it to her blog). The story takes place after volume 8's conclusion. Three years, to be exact! So it'll be quite a while before we ever see this translated. ^^;; I'm really loving this revisiting of the LSK characters. I really hope she'll write more of the LSK verse.

Also, new No Hero merchandise will be sold between 4/20 and 4/29 (preorder).
Went to watch The Hunger Games last weekend. My heaaaart. Now I want to read the books, except I have A Game of Thrones to finish first. (I haven't gotten far with it yet). I ended up browsing Wikipedia about The Hunger Games. I didn't read too closely, but I still spoiled myself quite a bit.

I've also been slowly reading Ooku, a manga series I borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] gem2niki. It's fairly different from what I usually read. Series is about an alternate Japan where a disease killed off most of the men, so women ended up taking over men's positions. Ooku, which is a harem of women serving the shogun, is a harem of men serving a female shogun in this series. The story-telling is interesting... it doesn't focus on any single character but rather follows relevant people through history, so certain characters get the spotlight for a volume or so before a new character is featured.

[livejournal.com profile] funpotexchange has started posting! \o/ The fic I wrote completely slayed me. I was aiming to write one pairing, but the result turned out to be a completely different pairing because to get to the pairing I planned to write would have taken three times the length of the current fic. I'm not completely pleased with how the fic turned out (it feels very awkward to me, and more telling than showing...) but I hope it still has its redeeming points. :3;; I liked the idea a lot, so I might even flesh it out some more in the future with a focus on different characters in the same universe. I can't wait to see what other people have written, and what my gift will be! :D

Mm, Sket Dance~. I was looking forward to a new opening this week, but there was no opening! Did they not make it in time? XD;; I'm excited that there'll be another year of Sket Dance~. Housuke (an owl) was so cute in episode 52! As for new anime, I watched the first episode of Uchuu Kyoudai and Hiiro no Kakera. Haven't watched the first episode of Kimi to Boku season 2 yet. Gonna watch more stuff before I report back about them!

I'm still playing catch up with [livejournal.com profile] colors_tcg. Next will be [livejournal.com profile] fanbook. :x And then writing more of Bittersweet Sweetness!

But before that, have some scans! My previous photos of these were terrible, so I scanned them all instead. First up is Legend of Sun Knight scans.

SO this was Adair! I laughed so much when I actually saw this in full size because I totally thought he was holding a shield... except he's actually holding blueberry pie. And saying "Captain, I managed to buy your blueberry pie!"

ridiculous amount of LSK scans )
I've been scarce on LJ! OTL Trying to play some catch up with everything this week. I can't believe March is almost over.

I came across a fishbone hairclip the other day though. Much awesomeness! That immediately went into my collection.

Random snippets about various series below.

Bakuman
The manga!! This is like, the moment everyone has been waiting for from the start, right? All the characters have come so far! ♥ The anime - Season 2 ended! I've yet to watch the last four episodes. I won't be too sad though, since season 3 will start in the fall. Tanto kind of brought a lull to the series, but PCP really brought the momentum back~

Natsume Yuujinchou
Ahhhhh, watched the finale of season 4 today! One of my favorite endings yet with how Natsume confronted the past and moved forward. I really appreciated the exploration of Natsume's past in this season. Like I said before, I feel I've learned so much more about Natsume in this season.

Magi
I started reading Magi last week~. I'm on ch.93. Favorite character is Alibaba. :D He's not all powerful or all that confident, but he feels so much and tries so hard. He's totally the type to rise up to the challenge. I always thought Aladdin was more grown up than this. I think I was mistaking Sinbad for the main character then. XD; The idea of dungeons and magoi and djinns is quite fascinating~. I'm just being introduced to Hakuryuu at the moment. I wonder what he'll bring to the story~.

Otoyomegatari
Another manga series I started reading. I've wanted to check it out since last year (it was one of the fandoms I could have written for [livejournal.com profile] parallelsfic. Now that I know who the characters are, I want to dig up [livejournal.com profile] dropsofviolet's requests again...). The artwork in this series is stunning. The content revolves around young brides' stories, starting off with Amir, who is 20, and her husband Karluk, who is 12. I thought they would be the main focus (and that the age difference might be a main point) but the story instead moves on from Amir and Karluk and touches upon other brides (and brides-to-be), branching off from Amir and Karluk's story, though maybe the story will eventually return to them. The age difference isn't a very large factor, and Amir and Karluk truly appreciate each other. There's a linguist called Henry Smith who stays with Karluk's tribe to study the culture and language. He later moves on from the tribe, and the story moves on with him! Though he's not the main character (at least I don't assume he is...), it's pretty interesting how the scene changed with him. I wonder if the manga will continue borrowing Smith's presence to show us various tribes and their brides-to-be. Perhaps we were with Amir and Karluk in the beginning because Smith was there!

Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (Yamada and the Seven Witches)
A body-swap series by Yoshikawa Miki, mangaka of Yankee-kun to Megane-chan! Yesssss. I'm so there. XD; I love her humor~. It's set in high school yet again, though this time with some more supernatural elements, it feels like!

Avatar: The Legend of Korra
Watched the premiere yesterday. SO AWESOME. I can't wait for more. I already like Korra, and I like Tenzin a whole lot too. I was getting strangely emotional during the two episodes because wow, their world has changed but it's still so very easily recognizable as the same world. Loved seeing the influences of the previous cast on this new world. It's so sad to think that most of them have already passed on. Pro-bending has been pretty cool so far too!

Let's see, anything I'm forgetting... I've been borrowing manga from [livejournal.com profile] gem2niki. First up was Kami no Shizuku (Drops of God) about a guy who must correctly identify 13 wines left behind by his father (a famous wine critic) in his will in order to inherit his legacy. Only two volumes are out in English so far~. I look forward to seeing Shizuku learn more and more about wine! :D (I still can't believe this is written by the same person who wrote Kindaichi, Tantei Gakuen Q, Area no Kishi... so many different series!) I borrowed Pluto and Ooku next from g2n, but I haven't started on them. *cough* it was Magi's fault

Oh, and A Game of Thrones. I had to return my library copy, so I ended up buying the book after all. XD; It's going to take me a while to read!
They assembled! XD;

Read more... )

A Game of Thrones
Mm, I checked out a digital version of A Game of Thrones from my library. I was on a waiting list for it! (I thought there would be more copies available than that). I only have the copy for 21 days... I don't think I'll be able to finish the book in 21 days. It's so long! (I haven't started reading yet. I'm already daunted...)

Sket Dance
...I caught up with the anime. /mopes

Tsubaki became my favorite character. :D ♥ And then he became even cuter as the series went on. (I also love that Shimono Hiro voices him). Episode 47 ended on such a cliffie, arrrrgh, so I went and read the manga. -___-;; And then I couldn't stop. Because there was so much about Tsubaki, ahhhhhhh. I've been good with Chihayafuru and Natsume Yuujinchou and haven't gone seeking the manga to find out what happens next, but I think it's because I've been watching them weekly, so I've gotten used to waiting. Sket Dance, on the other hand... since I was marathoning it... -_____-;;

This series makes me laugh and cry. I've fallen hard. XD; (And Tsubaki~ ♥) Expect more fangirling posts from me. XD I bought the fanbook over the weekend. Good thing I didn't read it until after I read some of the manga because the fanbook details a lot of the characters' pasts/family/etc. :3;; The fanbook also has huuuge lists of characters, even super minor characters (even the fictional characters like Liberty Maji), and they all have birthdays set for them...wow.

I've really liked the opening and ending songs of Sket Dance, and how they change quite often. The Sketchbooks are also awesome! I love that guy's voice~. I mostly only skimmed manga chapters that have already been animated. The anime follows the manga pretty closely, though the order of some chapters is different. I can't wait to see the next few episodes.

Steelhands

Aug. 14th, 2011 03:39 am
lucathia: (fishbones: green background)
Received Steelhands in the mail the day before yesterday and finished reading it yesterday. (Novels are just a perfect getaway). Spoilers under the LJ-cut with some of my babbling on the book.

(Steelhands is the fourth book in this series. Each book has four different narrators. I love alternating POVs... I think my own writing is quite... influenced by this.)

spoilers )

Randomly, some Legend of Sun Knight stuff, not related to the above. CUTE KEYCHAINS (scroll down). I like this artist's chibi style. If I'd known about these earlier, I'd have bought all 12 knights *cough*. I think it's out of stock now though.

Also, new bundle edition for the manhua + novel side story. Sold this weekend in Taiwan. Side story focuses on Blaze! Since Blaze already had a sidestory about him and Sun when they were younger, this focuses on something different. The manhua included wraps up the content from the first novel. Cannot wait until content from the other novels get adapted. :3 There's some exciting stuff in the later novels. XD;

Yu Wo also posted a side story about Storm in her blog that was included with a previous bundle. This was way back in May and was what got me started writing Entries 4, but I still haven't finished writing that chapter, gosh. I think I'll reread the sidestory tomorrow and summarize it. Need to get a better feel for Storm. ^^;;

Lastly, dang, I did not think there was so much merchandise for 1/2 Prince and LSK.
So the deadline for [livejournal.com profile] parallelsfic has passed, and I managed to write something in time, but the fic still needs a lot more work, so I'm taking the chance to continue editing the heck out of it before reveals. I better get this fic into better shape! There are a few people who don't have stories yet who are in need of pinch hitters. You can see the pinch hits here. I believe you can offer to pinch hit even if you haven't signed up. You just need an Archive of Our Own account to post!

I haven't managed to finish writing any new fic since May, so I'm glad this got me to write something.

I'm also hoping to participate in [livejournal.com profile] springkink! Prompt gathering closes on August 5th. I tossed in a ton of prompts... that I think I would even like to write myself, since I started getting ideas as I was brainstorming the prompts. When the prompt list goes up, I hope some of the prompts I tossed in will be claimed, and I hope I'll find stuff that I'll want to claim (and think that I'd finish in time!).

[livejournal.com profile] blind_go round 12 is also starting! Round 12 focuses on the new wave. Sign-ups close August 30, fics are due September 19. As I haven't managed to finish writing any Hikago fic since round 3, I'll have to sit this out again, but I'm happy to see the community still going strong. ^____^

When my internet wasn't working at the end of July, and then LJ stopped working, I actually started jotting down fic tidbits in a composition book (since they were on sale). I do all my writing on the computer, but there is something about writing with pen that makes the experience different. I wonder if this will get me to write more. :3 (Off the top of my head, I jotted down a list of incomplete fics I still need to complete... the list is quite scary. T____T; I mean, there are fics I thought I'd be able to finish writing within a week, and yet I've let the fics sit for a year already.)

August 2! 82! Yagyuu/Niou day. Steelhands was released today! *dances* I completely forgot about the release date though, so now I'll have to wait for the book to be shipped to me.
Heir Apparent
Read this after [livejournal.com profile] scintillulae brought it up! Another book written by Vivian Vande Velde, this one has a girl stuck in a virtual game. Was a pretty fascinating read. :D

Legend of Sun Knight
Translated a chapter from volume 3 for PR! and now I'm dying to write something about Leaf and Ice for chapter 3 of Entries in a Holy Knight's Journal, but I don't think we'll see the chapter in English until next year. XD; But maybe it'll still be okay to write since it's not spoilerish about plot events but rather is a character quirk we learn about... I should write it before the plunny escapes. And then warn people about the possible spoilers... ahhhhh. ):

Aruosumente (and other Aki works)
Started reading Aruosumente by Aki when I saw Easy Going Scans put it up. I love the art a whole lot, and the main character reminds me of Soren/Judgment (any character that reminds me of Soren is an immediate fav, haha). I ended up reading other works by Aki, like A*D Tenshi no Uso, Utahime, Olimpos, and Hana Matsuri. All are short works with beautiful art and a captivating plot. I wonder how long Aruosumente will be... hopefully not too short!

Out of the above, my favorite is A*D Tenshi no Uso. Would have liked Utahime more if more of the current story was told (instead of the past in flashback form). Will be following this mangaka's works! *__*

Remix Madness
I tossed in my fics over at Remix Madness so that I can remix other people's fics if I want to... I doubt anyone will remix my fics, but who knows?

If anyone wants to play, remix madness is open for the weekend! Fics are revealed on May 1 Monday.

Dragon's Bait

Apr. 12th, 2011 07:03 pm
lucathia: (fishbones: green background)
Very randomly read Dragon's Bait by Vivian Vande Velde because there's a transforming dragon involved. It is such a short book too, or maybe that's just me being used to epic fanfic that can be however long writers want them to be. I kept wanting more details. The ending made me go, what, that's it? XD; (And then I went to search for fanfic and went ooo, look there is fanfic. Lots of people must have wanted more, haha).

After reading this, I can safely conclude that I have a thing for transforming dragons. Not just dragons as dragons, but dragons that can take on human form. XD;; I think this fascination might have started with Breath of Fire, and now I want to replay those games and actually finish them. I've only ever finished Breath of Fire IV. Or, instead of replaying, I could go and find the manga versions... I know BoF IV at least has a manga. It has become very obvious to me that Rykatu, my OC that is part of this LJ handle of mine, is totally inspired by Ryu.

Selendrile in Dragon's Bait was described as cat-like at one point, yessss. I so loved comparing Rykatu and cats, so it amused me to see this view is more common than I thought, dragons being cat-like.

a quote I liked )
My copy of Dragon Soul came yesterday, along with some other stuff I ordered (sock garters for my cosplay and a cute Locke, Celes, and Terra from this person). I ordered the book on the 9th because I totally forgot about the release date until I saw the exited, flailing posts in [livejournal.com profile] thremedon about it...even though I had been anticipating the book all year. I couldn't believe how fast shipping was when I chose super saver shipping. It only took two days!

I immediately began to read and would have continued reading if I hadn't had to visit relatives. When I came back, I picked up where I left off and read until 6 AM. I was going to make some post saying how I was going to drop off the internet for the weekend to read, but I already finished the book.

I was grinning almost throughout the whole novel. I love Thom so much. ♥ In the first novel, Havemercy, I could not stop myself from likening Thom and Rook to Yagyuu and Niou, hahaha. (I must have read one too many fic and doujinshi where Yagyuu and Niou are in such situations where Yagyuu, the more scholarly one, tries to figure Niou out, where Niou is quite the charismatic bastard). It was like I had found a book version of Yagyuu. My impression of Thom in this book is much different though, but OMG, how I adored him.

For those of you who haven't read Havemercy before, there are three books in the universe so far. I always mention that there are metal dragons and gay magicians when I introduce the book. XD; The characters' voices are captivating and so very vivid. Each novel has four main protagonists through which we experience the story. Their knowledge of happenings is limited, which can be pretty fascinating when things come together. It's like fitting the pieces of a puzzle together. :3 The plot isn't the best paced, but I'm really there for the characters and the universe they live in.

more spoilerish flailing )

Now I'm dying for more of Thom. :'D I should try my hand at writing him.
