Hm, what to work on before my spring break is over... Rule 20 or the last part of 39 LSK first? Hopefully both before my spring break ends. |D;; (Maybe I'll even finally write up my reports for my conventions from last year, haha)

I'd like to update some of my fics too, OTL. Maybe it's time to take a dartboard out and see which one to work on first, pfft. I can't choose anymore. (New fics are always too shiny...) Endings are hard. Plot is hard. Writing is hard, hahaha. :'D Sometimes I really wish stories would just write themselves and then I can just read the end product... It seems I don't really write when I'm not stressed, pffft. Why, inspiration. Why do you only hit me when I'm busy? At least I was able to write the collab fic. |D;;

(Kiyutsuna is killing me with her drawings of the dress for A Slice of Wedding Cake. XDDD;)

Oh, I finished reading Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows). ;___; Always sad to see a series end, but the ending made me glad. ♥ It probably didn't make a lot of people happy, and it felt rushed, but I thought it was the most developmentally fulfilling ending there could be.

more thoughts )

Recently, I started reading a manga called Shishunki Bitter Change where a boy and a girl end up swapping bodies when they were in elementary. It's pretty fascinating (though I'm wary of the ending because I browsed the web version this is based off of. Hopefully the ending will be less abrupt for this version). Yuuta and Yui have to pass off as each other. One is exuberant while the other is fairly withdrawn. One has a happy family while the other has a cold one. But the driving force of this manga isn't actually Yuuta and Yui getting used to being each other... Rather it's having to grow up as each other, and missing out on things they thought they'd have been doing, having to change their dreams of the future because of the uncertainty of whether or not things will stay this way, or if they will be able to change back... Most definitely a bitter change...

Oh, and this is all over the place now, but GYAKUTEN SAIBAN SET IN THE MEIJI ERA? Bring it ooooon.
I caught up with Bokura no Kiseki and Orange Chocolate, two series I've been buying but haven't read very far. Also continued reading Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo and Usotsuki Lily. The connection between these four series? Genderbenders. XD;

Bokura no Kiseki (read up to volume 7)
Reincarnation series. Protagonist was a princess named Veronica in the past. He has always remembered his past life and was bullied for thinking that everyone remembers their past lives. He learns to be less obvious about it, though he also questions if his memories are real until one day, he performs magic, receiving proof about what he remembers. Although he hasn't wished for it, an event triggers the memories of his classmates. Several of his old companions who were with him on the day the castle was attacked have reincarnated among his classmates, but not all. Slowly, they try to unravel what happened during that fated day that caused everyone to die.

Orange Chocolate (read up to volume 11)
Two childhood friends end up swapping bodies because of a wish. After 1000 shrine visits, the shrine god grants your wish... Unfortunately, Chiro's wish is misinterpreted. She doesn't want to actually become Ritsu. Thankfully, their switch isn't permanent, but they keep getting switched at random times, such as when Ritsu is just about to go on stage, so Chiro would end up having to mimic him during his job. However, the amount of time they stay stuck as each other seems to get longer and longer.

Usotsuki Lily (read up to volume 11)
Hinata is asked out by En, who is a very hot guy, but she later finds out that he crossdresses all the time because he hates guys so much that he doesn't even want to see one in the mirror. This is just a very silly series that never fails to make me laugh. XD; There are a ton of scenarios where crossdressing happens (characters other than En also crossdress. Hinata makes a gorgeous guy). And so many times when the 4th wall is broken. Nothing much seems to happen, but I adore all of these characters. <3333 In the latest volume... I guess there's some progression in the plot. En doesn't seem to fare as badly with guys anymore. XD;;

Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo (read up to chapter 63)
Yamada accidentally switches bodies with Shiraishi Urara. By kissing, they can switch bodies, and it's not just limited to each other. He later discovers that there are seven witches at his school, each with a different power.

I thought this story was just about body-swapping, but nope, other powers come into play too. Body-swapping is my favorite though! I find it amusing that there is a ton of kissing going on in this story since the powers work by kissing. Yamada has kissed a ton of girls and a ton of guys. XD; Yamada-kun is by Yoshikawa Miki, who drew Yankee-kun to Megane-chan (which I sitll need to finish reading. I have 3 volumes left!), so the humor is quite similar.
Fire Emblem Awakening, Knights of Iris GET! As well as several other purchases. |D;;

I dropped by my bookstore to buy some manga since there was a 20% sale~. I special ordered Knights of Iris and the Ginga e Kickoff fanbook last month, but they never contacted me to tell me whether they were processing my order or not (and I never followed up on it). I went to the store and asked, and what do you know, the books had already arrived. XD; (I didn't even know they processed my order!!)

Knights of Iris has been out of stock everywhere, so I'm really happy I finally have a copy now. XD; I was hoping for an English release since this artbook includes all of the support conversations and endings (and I'd love to have an English version of that) but then I read the Japanese supports and really adored those too (especially the original Henry x Olivia conversations) so I guess having the Japanese version isn't bad either!

Along with the artbook, I picked up Horimiya v1-2 and Ore to Atashi no Kareshi-sama. My* (masculine) and My* (feminine) boyfriend. So happy to see Horimiya on the shelf!! I also saw the original Hori-san to Miyamura-kun, the 4-koma version by HERO, but I like the art in the Horimiya version more. |D;; Miyamura is just really adorable in this version. As for Ore to Atashi no Kareshi-sama, it is a genderbender, body-swap manga. XD;; I just love this trope too much.

Shoujo manga talk! Or, what I'm currently reading.

Ame Nochi Hare / Clear Up After Rain

Five high school boys caught in a spring storm end up changing into girls whenever it rains. This is one of my more favorite genderbenders.

I love the art style (Hazuki~!), and you can easily tell the difference between their boy forms and their girl forms. What's charming about this series is that it focuses on subtle differences between life as a boy and life as a girl, and the characters take notice on how others behave differently around them depending on their current identity. Even though the genderbending is a large part of the story, it's not all about their trials at living a double life. I feel the genderbending part is what serves as a bond that brings them together and allows us to learn more about each of them and their background. I look forward to reading more! :)

Akatsuki no Yona

The sheltered princess ends up having to flee from all that she knows and goes on a journey to find new companions to fight by her side.

Since NG Life, I've been a fan of Kusanagi Mizuho. I like her stories, especially since romance usually isn't the main point of her stories. Akatsuki no Yona starts out pretty typical, with a girl pining after her love and doing nothing but that, but Yona didn't disappoint me. I was waiting for her to grow stronger! So far the story hasn't been amazing, but I find it enjoyable, and how can I not like a story when they're going around gathering four legendary dragons? XD;

(To [livejournal.com profile] colors_tcg members and mods, thank you for still sticking around even during LJ's outage. I've decided to take a break while LJ is being wonky (since I can't even make any comments or posts the majority of the time) and will be back to updating things when it's less difficult to do so. August release will still be happening. Hopefully by then LJ will have survived through this latest bout of DDos attacks).

I shouldn't even be trying, but let's see if this goes through. I typed up a long post (this I have saved) and then a shorter post on my tablet hoping that might work better (that I don't have saved), and neither posted. I just hope there doesn't end up being a million posts from me later if it so happens that those entries did post correctly! The short post was about whether or not I should consider haunting microblogging sites like tumblr.

While I love the blog format and am sad that we've taken to microblogging so much (and I am the type to stick to one thing to the bitter end), perhaps it's time to join the crowd. I go where the content is, and where there are friends to meet and keep in touch with. Lj still seems to be the go to place for fics though. Dreamwidth is still a fairly quiet in comparison, and I don't think people truly consider tumblr a place to post fic. Do people post fic on tumblr? I've been considering for a long time if I want to move my fic elsewhere, since this journal of mine has become quite messy with random fandom junk, but then I started this journal for it to be a fic journal (and look how that ended up). Probably if I started a fic journal, the same thing would happen again. I guess I'll wait until DW goes through with the option of importing by tags, as that will make separating my posts a lot easier. In any case, this will be my main haunt for quite some time yet unless everyone jumps ship.

First with my internet down, and then LJ down, I've been checking ffnet a lot more (goodness...), dreamwidth, and watching stuff.

Anyway, you can find me below, though very inactive for the first two. My tumblr is brand new, and I don't know what to do with it.

NG Life

lucathia: (fishbones: ring)
I finished reading NG Life over the weekend. I've been buying a volume here and there from Book Off and filling in my missing volumes at Kinokuniya until I bought all 9 volumes (I didn't even know volume 9 was the end... I thought it was still ongoing!). I read volumes 1-2 way back and wasn't too interested, but this time around, I was hooked. XD;

The main character, Keidai, remembers his past life, especially his past love, Serena. He's found his best male friend again in this life, except he's reincarnated as a girl. The series starts off with Keidai meeting his past love, except... she's reincarnated as a guy. XD; It's a romantic comedy, but there were lots of touching moments too. Keidai is fairly "handsome" but is an idiot most of the time. XD; Still, he's quite tormented by his memories since neither Serizawa (his best friend) and Yuuma (his past lover) remember anything from their past lives. On top of that, their genders are now different. This throws Keidai off a lot. Later on, there are some more explorations with exactly why he still has his memories.

more spoilerish rambling )

I've also been reading two other reincarnation series, Oyayubihime Infinity (a group of people have butterfly tattoos. when their tattoos touch, they see a part of their past. throughout the series, they try to figure out who they were) and Yukarism (a writer was born with recollections of his past as a female). I started all of these because they're labeled as genderbenders. :3 I think I'll probably start Bokura no Kiseki next. XD
Kimi to Boku anime!
Kimi to Boku is getting an anime. ♥ I saw this before going to sleep and immediately posted about it to [livejournal.com profile] kimitoboku_fan. I should probably organize the tags of that community before next year. XD; And possibly continue or finish translating the drama CDs before they become moot.

Enigma
Have been reading Enigma. I keep expecting things to get out of hand and get dark, but so far, this series makes me feel optimistic. :) unlike Doubt

Genderbenders
My new favorite genderbenders~. Usotsuki Lily and Seiyuu Ka--! both make me grin so hard. Both are fairly humorous (Usotsuki Lily moreso than Seiyuu Ka--! in that the characters kind of speak to the audience and analyze themselves at times...). Seiyuu Ka--! is also a lot of fun with the situations Hime gets herself into (the latest with the drama CD business made me squeal). My shelves can no longer fit all these genderbenders. XD; I'm also reading CODA. :)

Online TCGs
Hm, I've kind of fallen out of the TCG playing phase in that I don't really go out to look for trades much at all (I just wait for people to come to me??). I don't seem to be capable of playing TCGs run by other people anymore since I can't keep up with them. OTL I just play TCGs owned by myself, haha. XD;

We're nearing our 2nd anniversary over at [livejournal.com profile] twistserve_tcg! This is very long running for a TCG. I always seem to outlast most TCGs (they usually end up closing on me after a few months or going on hiatus and never coming back), so I'm proud we've been around so long. XD; [livejournal.com profile] oriaon has been so helpful and giving me the extra push I need this week to get the community back into shape. XD Hopefully I can have the community much more organized by the end of the week, ready to welcome our 2nd anniversary!

[livejournal.com profile] colors_tcg is still going on strong~. I love trading with people here and I can be lazy and wait for people to trade with me, haha. I'm so giddy that we've been able to have a good turnout for all of our contests for designing original Colors characters. Look! Aren't they all so awesome? *___* When I first started Design Akai-san!, I totally thought the contests might die out someday, but it hasn't happened, thankfully. :D Now we're on our last character before our mascot round(s)!

[livejournal.com profile] 31days_exchange
Hm, so my goal was to write 31 pieces for this, at least one per day so I'd be able to finish by March 31, but March is turning out busy. Now it's already halfway through the month. I've only finished 5 pieces. D: 26 more to go... quite impossible. :'( I hoped I could at least finish He Never Knew by this week since I have enough WIPs just hanging around, but oh man, I haven't had time to write this week with all this other stuff I've been doing. ^^;;
A dating game after my heart. XD; I had no idea what this game was, but the synopsis mentioned the protagonist (female) going undercover at an all boy's high school to slay demons. Then I saw that one of the characters is voiced by Taniyama Kishou. Genderbending in a dating sim + one of my favorite seiyuu (singing the opening no less)? That immediately made me buy the game, haha. XD

The game's not very complicated (you're not given that many choices...), but each path is fairly different. I only played through one so far (not Taniyama's character, who is a surprisingly energetic "buzz cut" character). I like that the protagonist is fairly strong, and she doesn't get discovered very easily, at least not in the path I chose. XD I hope it's not just because I chose the shortest guy, hahaha. I'm terrible with playing through more than one path, but the others intrigue me too~

Kampfer got me thinking of gender bender series I actually enjoy. I'm a huge fan of shoujo gender bender series because I just adore when characters keep secrets or have a secret identity. This secret identity thing extends to non crossdressing situations too, such as Lelouch as Zero and Kaitou as Kaitou Kid and all that. My biggest complaint for most shoujo gender bender series is that the secret generally comes out too quickly, though for manga, it makes sense that the secret is out quickly when you're trying to grab everyone's attention with the first few chapters. If it's not a secret identity thing, I generally...don't like the series even if it's gender bender unless it has something to do with power relationships. Most gender bender I enjoy seem to be manga only instead of anime. Which is sad, because I really want a gender bender series animated so I can hear a seiyuu attempt voices as both a guy and a girl.

(I can't find the corresponding scanlation of this panel, so this will have to do...basically says the school council president = the female idol)

A lot of mangaka seem to like combining crossdressing with the idol world. I'm guilty of doing that too (I've been writing an AU fic with such a situation). I was ecstatic when I came upon Charming Junkie where the idol Umi is crossdressing. He looks hot as a guy and cute as a girl. I like his character design. The series is reasonably long and manages to flesh out the characters more by the end of the series. Naka, the main female protagonist, has a scary face like Sawako. It's interesting seeing her overcome that. Naka and Umi are very adorable together. People who liked Never Give Up will most likely enjoy this one, since Umi ends up wanting to crossdress in order to protect his job with Naka.
