Shaman King official fan book Mankin book translations

Darn. I wish I had this when I was writing mankin fics. It'd have made things a lot more accurate. And detailed.

I tried to scan a few of the pages, but my scanner is so slow! So, I'm only including some translations of a few parts. Have other people scanned or translated any of the fanbook? If so, please point me there~ (And I can give up trying to translate it myself)

First are the character interviews. Bleh, I wish I bought the Japanese version. I don't know why I bought the Chinese version. It makes translations less accurate. And the names don't make sense. But let's see how much of it I can translate. Wish I could find my manjiten to at least get the names right. =x

Interview of Yoh
Q: Who gave you the name 'Yoh?'
A: My grandpa named me. I don't quite know why he gave me that name. It's easy to say and it's sort of like a greeting. Kind of cool, isn't it?

Q: In addition to Bob's music, what music do you listen to?
A: Recently I like listening to Steve Wonder's songs. It makes you feel peaceful. Dad has a lot of his records in his room, so it's very convenient.

Q: Why do you always wear sandals?
A: I don't always wear them, but then, I guess I do wear them for a long time. I know how to protect my things. Maybe some spirit will merge with my sandals in the future.

Q: What's your reason for liking Curry Udon? Is regular udon not good enough?
A: Actually, I like eating normal udon too. But I just can't resist that smooth taste of curry udon. Although, it's kind of hard to eat.

Q: Please tell me what type of girl you like!
A: I like gentle girls. Even though she doesn't seem like it, Anna's actually really gentle. Tamao and Jun too. Everyone's so kind, so I'm very blessed.

Q: What's the hardest part of Anna's training?
A: Anna's training isn't easy. Even though it's still bearable...the part where Anna uses poo is still a bit too much to the spirit. (? Um, did I translate this right? XD;; )

Q: The battle outfit that Anna made, do you think it fits you?
A: If I say it doesn't fit, I'd get killed for sure...but, it's not that bad actually. It feels very warm/soft when I wear it, and it doesn't affect my movements!

Q: Hao and Anna, who do you think you can't win against?
A: They're powerful in different ways that can't compare. Just thinking of them makes me scared to death...

Q: What do you like about Anna:
A: Because it was love at first sight, so it's her face. And when she wears a kimono, that makes my heart flutter too. No matter when, I like Anna's beautiful eyes and her shiny forehead too!

Q: Will you always be together with Anna?
A: (...no comment)

The secret conversation between Hao and Yoh at Dachi's Cafe
(In ch.251 of the manga, a part of the conversation between the two was cut out. Here, the conversation is reconstructed with the help of Talim(?) ) <---I don't remember the patch guy at the cafe. What's his name? I try sounding it out in Chinese...

"You like curry too?"
"Hmph, of course..."

(This takes place after the first preliminaries, on the day before the last battle. The time is 2:40 in the afternoon. First, Hao comes into the store and then Yoh.)

Hao: Let's sit next to the window.
Yoh: Uh, okay.

(Looking at the menu placed on the table, Hao orders a cup of espresso. He suggests for Yoh, who can't decide, to order cappuccino.)

Hao: ...eh? I'm a little hungry. Why not order some curry?
Yoh: Hehehe, you order curry without thinking. Seems like you like curry too.
Hao: Hmph, of course. Ever since I've had this body, I've liked eating curry.

it goes on, but I'm stumped with the names...

Darn it. Such an interesting conversation...but it's hard to translate because I don't remember much of mankin anymore. The names are stumping me. -_-;; What's the name of the creator of the X-Laws? (the guy that deserts the X-Laws) And the name of the lego like guy who raises Hao?

I like collecting these character fanbooks. I have the fanbooks for Gakuen Alice, Shaman King, Dear Boys, Full Metal Alchemist (first one only), Fruits Basket, and Hikaru no Go. I wish I bought some of the Prince of Tennis fanbooks too...since I want to know more about the characters! Some translations have appeared online...but I've only seen complete ones for Mizuki, Atobe...and a few of the others. =X

Oh, my! You have Dear Boys? :D I love that series! Can you please translate parts of it, especially Miura's? --> is a Miura fangirl for life. :3 Even if it's only bits, I'll be totally grateful!

For Shaman King, my favourite character has to be among these three: Faust VIII, Ren, or Yoh. If you're planning to translate more, then can you pretty please do Faust or Ren? XDD

Wah, a Dear Boys fan?! So very rare! XD;; I'm entirely a fan of Ayumi Fuse. The Dear Boys one is a 'premium guide.' Meh, don't know why they call it that, but unlike the mankin one, there isn't that much info on the characters. Lots of interviews with the mangaka...which I haven't read. Since it's in Japanese. =x Reading all of it is a daunting task. XD;;

But here's what little of Miura info there is in the guide:

Ranmaru Miura
"A charm that cannot be told by looks only"

He is one who everyone sees as a bishonen character. But his charm isn't just his looks. Because of Fujiwara's invitation, he started playing basketball. But Miura is now the skilled 3-point shooter that Mizuho can boast of in a match. He takes into consideration his team's conditions and also the conditions of the members of the team. However, there's also the side of him that strongly puts forth his own feelings.

Hehe, I'll go through it and see if there are interesting parts of it I can translate. Gah, I want the next volume already! Stuck after volume 20...right inbetween the match between Shonan Sagami and Mizuho! But meh, Mizuho's going to win, most likely.

I've ony translated the Q&A part of Yoh's. I'll finish his character bio stuff later, and Faust's too. :DD clarinetkoko has already done Ren's before, so hopefully she'll let me see them too~

Sure, go ahead! I'll friend you back. ^_^ I don't have anyone to squee over Dear Boys with.

Ah, Fuse. Like many others (from the mangaka's notes), I started liking him in Act II. He kind of reminds me a bit of Hiyoshi from Prince of Tennis actually, with the stubborness. Anyway, he's not born with natural talent in basketball, but he's extremely good in basketball because he keeps practicing the basics over and over and over again. He says he hates three pointers, but that's partly because he's not good at them and doesn't have natural talent like Touya Takashina, who he teaches the basics to because he sees how much talent Touya has. He sort of wants to be Touya's friend (and they're somewhat rivals), but he's disappointed when Touya stops playing basketball and just disappears. Touya loves teasing Fuse. Fuse absolutely refuses shooting from the three point line, saying that it's impractical and not real basketball. But he realizes that his team is at a disadvantage without them (despite how they are scoring three points with their shooting and getting the other team to foul technique), so he actually makes up his mind to have his senpai come in.

One of the things that makes me like Fuse a lot is how he squabbles with his senpai Kojiro Todoroki. I think those scenes are extremely funny. His teammates back him up entirely in whatever kind of play he wants to do, which shows how deep their friendship goes. Their play has improved a lot during their recent match with Mizuho, and the match between them is so very intense.

That's sort of what was off the top of my head, but yeah, if you want me to, I can go on more about him. XD;;

But yes, Aikawa is much love. He's the main character after all, and the reason reading dear boys was oh so wonderful. Like the characters in the story, I love seeing Aikawa play. ♥

yes yes his personality is like Hiyo's! in Act I,i dont like him at all.but slowly..i find his character interesting.and by vol 7,i like him a lot already.oh..okay.is Touya his junior?and also,another thing,he seems stubborn and prideful to me.am i right?

yeah it's so funny!how he call his senpai idiot and stuff,when he actually need his help.i like the fact that he lets down his pride and asks his senpai's help when his team was in trouble.

yup yup!i really want to know about his past in Tendouji..why he ran away from home and stuff.he doesnt seem to want to share it with the Mizuho guys,

Both Touya and Fuse are 2nd years. Their schools used to have training camps together. :3

Haha, yes, in Act I, I didn't even take notice of him much, just that, oh, they were very arrogant, him and his friends. (But seeing so many first years take the place of the upperclassmen did feel somewhat cool even then. XD;; )

Yeah, he's very stubborn and prideful. He always sticks to his way of playing, but like you've said, he does swallow his pride and ask for his senpai's help. I loved that part. XD;;

Hehe, I also liked how he cheers on for Mizuho (especially Aikawa) and is so happy when Mizuho wins their games. And he tries to hide it that he's cheering for them. <3

How far have you read? I think...there are 22 volumes for Act II out so far, right? (I think I have up to 21 or so, I don't quite remember.) But in these later volumes, Aikawa does tell Mizuho a bit about why he left Tendouji. It was a very endearing scene, ending with all of them determined to meet Tendouji at the finals and beat them. ^_^

yup,he seems like a leader in the team.his teammates just follow him.it's good to see something good coming out from him ^^ i say he's a potential captain for the team.

hm..who are ya referring to when ya said 'he's cheering for Mizuho?' ^^; yeah,Aikawa was like an odd one out in Mizuho at first,but am glad that he was able to blend in.it was really sad at the end of Act I when the team fell
apart..

am only at vol 7 of Act II,coz am buying the manga from my country,and they're kinda slow in releasing it..>_> ah cool!which vol is it? hehe..that's good.so they'll cheer each other and go to the top ^^

Oh, by "he's cheering for Mizuho," I meant Fuse. :3 After Shonan and Mizuho's first match, Fuse starts cheering for Mizuho at games because he really wants to have a match with them again. He tries to hide it, but his teammates know anyway. <3

It's volume 14. Aikawa goes back to visit Tendouji. It was nice seeing how the Tendouji team worked.

Hehe, if you're only at volume 7, that means you still have a lot more to look forward to! Japan has 22 volumes so far. I have 21 in Chinese...so that means I only have 1 volume to look forward to for the translation. ^^;;

yeah,cant wait to read the rest.that's surprising..he never visited Tendouji after he left them..it's them (well,only Sawa so far) who visited him..i wonder how they took it.i want to see Aikawa and Hikaru meet.

Yes! Aikawa and Hikaru finally meet, at least, we finally see them interact with each other. :3 The Tendouji team has their little practice area (the hoops that they nailed on to the side of the building) that they used to use when they were freshmen and couldn't use the real courts. That was shown already in the first 7 volumes, I think. But, it shows up again and it was really sweet when Aikawa went there too. <3

Shoot, your icon makes me wish that I had a colorbar of him. XD;;

oh cool! yup i saw that area.hee..so Aikawa know that place too..who found it first actually? erm..Aikawa and Hikaru..hope it's a friendly meeting ^^;

yeah,i wish too!i can make a colorbar but i dont have enough pics of him..my friend managed to make a Dear Boys colorbar though.i can make one of Aikawa coz there're enough pics of him around ^^
