Um wow, so the latter half of August completely swallowed me. It's been nonstop busyness, pretty much (including my job starting back up, spending an entire week before that cleaning my workplace and not making as much headway as I would've liked, being a model (like what XDD), and attending Crunchryoll Expo (at least that was for my own enjoyment but it also meant waking up way too early and not giving my body time to recuperate from work), until today when I finally got a chance to sleep in, but of course that's when a sore throat decided to creep up on me. But anyway, now that I finally have time to breathe, I'm here with some Sunken Moon ramblings. o/ Well, a summary, actually, per request. I actually have a bit of a difficult time keeping track of what Sunken Moon doujinshi I have on my shelf. Maybe this will help. (Also, I still need to finish reading KSM S2 Volume 7 at some point. I read the beginning before August slayed me.)

Enjoy!

This first summary is of a Hui Shi/Fan Tong story called 倒回從前, written by Shui Quan in 2015. The story plus author's notes is 157 pages long. Shui Quan writes very long doujinshi of her own series. I love it. XD I've summarized the Prologue and Chapter 1 here to give an idea of what the doujinshi is about.

Before I delve into the summary. Some basic season 1 spoilers about Hui Shi: He and Fan Tong basically shared a body. When Fan Tong arrived in the tunnel, Hui Shi ended up in his body after Hui Shi died, and Fan Tong was able to use Hui Shi's swordsmanship from time to time, as well as speak the language of the Western City because of him. When Fan Tong returns to his own world for a brief period at the end of season 1, Hui Shi was his only companion from the other world. Eventually, Fan Tong decides that he wants to return to the other world and his friends, so he does. Later on, Hui Shi is able to acquire his own body as a new resident. He sometimes goes by Hui Shi but more often than not goes by Xiu Ye Lan, his original name before he went undercover in the Eastern City. He now works for the Western City as an emissary to the Eastern City while Fan Tong works as a substitute Shi at Hui Shi Ge in the Eastern City.

Now onto the actual book. Pardon any weird translations/terminology. I'm not all that familiar what some terminology from KSM might translate to in English.

Prologue

Hui Shi/Xiu Ye Lan wakes up in the Eastern City's pool and is fished out by Yin Shi, to his confusion, as he thought he had died. He asks Yin Shi if Ying has forgiven him, but Yin Shi doesn't understand what he's talking about. Yin Shi thinks maybe Hui Shi is just confused from returning to life.

Yin Shi tells Hui Shi that Pulled His Back (閃到腰的 - After giving it some more thought, I felt that the lower back muscle is probably what it's most commonly referred to in English. Feel free to substitute 閃到腰的 in your head if Pulled His Back sounds weird) has the stuff that Hui Shi had on him.

Hui Shi doesn't have a chance to ask him who Pulled His Back is before Yin Shi yawns, and they part their way at Shen Wang Dian.

Chapter 1

Fan Tong wakes up early, hoping to go to the Western City and return Xiu Ye Lan's stuff to him before work. When he gets there, the servants tell him that Xiu Ye Lan hadn't returned the night before. Fan Tong leaves in worry.

Fan Tong goes to work and lets his mind drift off, which happens a lot. All of a sudden, the door opens, and Fan Tong spots Hui Shi by the door, who, for some reason, is wearing his old Eastern City clothes.

Xiu Ye Lan is taken aback and asks, "Who are you? Why are you in Hui Shi Ge?"

Fan Tong is confused and asks if he's joking. He works here. Of course he's here. It's weirder for Xiu Ye Lan to be here. The Hui Shi jade was in Fan Tong's possession, yet Xiu Ye Lan was still going on about being Hui Shi? Was he going to say he didn't recognize Fan Tong next?

Only then does Xiu Ye Lan take a second look at him and says that it's true that he recognizes him. He even adds, "You're that new resident that I saw in the Chen Yue tunnel before I died, right?"

That makes Fan Tong fall silent, questioning if the resurrection had gone wrong and if Xiu Ye Lan still understands Fan Tong's words. He immediately decides to ask for help, but of course, conflicting words come out of his mouth, so he writes it down instead and shoves it at Xiu Ye Lan.

He can't ask Puhahaha for help. Fan Tong left him at Chen Yue's altar for the time being, so Fan Tong goes to Luo Shi.

Xiu Ye Lan is surprised by Luo Shi's identity (since he's all grown up). Luo Shi informs him, "That's right, you've lost several years of memory, my dear Hui Shi."

His memories have reverted back to the time he died as an original resident. Luo Shi isn't too worried, since memories of him weren't lost, but Fan Tong hates that he has been completely forgotten.

Xiu Ye Lan, on the other hand, is unwilling to believe them, thinking that they're tricking him and perhaps wish to interrogate him. This line of thinking shocks both Luo Shi and Fan Tong, but Fan Tong realizes that this is Xiu Ye Lan from right before his original death, when he had been tortured for two years by the Western City and got found out as a spy by the Eastern City.

Luo Shi tries to convince him that he would never harm him, that he was Luo Shi, but Xiu Ye Lan says he doesn't resemble Luo Shi at all. He must just be some sibling who shared his blood.

This leaves Luo Shi speechless, and almost makes Fan Tong laugh though he doesn't feel happy at all. It's all Luo Shi's own fault for growing up not quite right.

They try to think of other people Xiu Ye Lan might trust to convince him, but Xiu Ye Lan takes all of the suggestions the wrong way. Fan Tong is unable to bear his distrust.

When Luo Shi reveals that he has the power to pardon Xiu Ye Lan, even if he was still in trouble, that's when Xiu Ye Lan learns that Ying has already died.

Yin Shi and Ling Shi try to help, with Ling Shi suggesting for them to kill Xiu Ye Lan and let him revive again correctly, but Luo Shi would have none of it.

Xiu Ye Lan wonders what he has forgotten, if they really are telling the truth. They fill him in about Yin Shi being his sword, and how he is now an emissary from the Western City to the Eastern City, and that his brother Naerxi is the substitute Emperor.

His brother's name makes him pale and wonder just how long it has been.

The answer: at least four to five years, not counting the years he spent with Fan Tong in his world.

Ling Shi contacts Naerxi, "Your brother has gotten into trouble. Please come to Hui Shi Ge."

Then, Ling Shi leaves with Yin Shi following behind him. Luo Shi escorts Fan Tong to Chen Yue's altar to ask about what's going on, but Chen Yue puts up a barrier and tells him he can't take her brother back before the month is up.

Fan Tong is unable to break the barrier and can only return to the Eastern City. He arrives before Naerxi does and tells Xiu Ye Lan that the altar can't be accessed for a month. Does he want to try dying instead? But it all comes out wrong. He asks if Xiu Ye Lan truly doesn't remember him. He truly doesn't.

Naerxi arrives. Neither Fan Tong nor Luo Shi wish to stay and watch.

After they leave, Xiu Ye Lan asks Naerxi a bunch of questions, including how Naerxi had become the subsitute Emperor.

Naerxi responds that it's a long story, but in any case, he is well.

Xiu Ye Lan wonders if he should try dying. Naerxi responds by asking if he truly doesn't remember recent years, including how he likes Fan Tong.

Xiu Ye Lan is taken aback and asks how that happened, but Naerxi says not to ask him. He just wanted to know how thoroughly he had forgotten. That Xiu Ye Lan liked Fan Tong was something Naerxi had observed.

Naerxi suggests for him not to take his life. It'll only be one month before the altar can be accessed. Xiu Ye Lan says that he's not afraid of pain, but Naerxi answers that he is afraid.

Naerxi approaches cautiously and hugs him, afraid he'll run away. "Promise me, don't die where I can't see you, and don't ever die in front of me either. You aren't afraid of pain... but I have always felt it."

Finally, he has the chance to say this, even if Xiu Ye Lan has lost several years of his memories. Even one month was enough. At least, in this month, he can be sure that he is the most important to Xiu Ye Lan.

Afterwards, Naerxi tells them that he'll be leaving Xiu Ye Lan at Hui Shi Ge, since the Xiu Ye Lan now wouldn't like the Western City. Luo Shi and Fan Tong wish for Xiu Ye Lan to try to regain his memories by dying, but Naerxi opposes it passionately. "If you wish for him to remember you, use everything you have to convince Chen Yue for a way of recovery. You shouldn't ask him to die again and again, experiencing the dangers of revival over and over! If his revival has gone wrong, it's not his fault. Even if you aren't in his memories, he shouldn't have to die to take responsibility for that!"

Luo Shi tells Fan Tong to move to Hui Shi Ge for the time being, as Luo Shi as he is now would only disappoint Xiu Ye Lan. Fan Tong goes in to tell Xiu Ye Lan about moving in, but of course a bunch of wrong words come out. He's just about to write it down when Xiu Ye Lan tells him there's no need. Somehow, he understands him.

He also apologizes for his attitude.

Fan Tong is happy that he is still understood. Maybe he now understands that they're friends ? He asks if he remembers Fan Tong's world, such as computers and TVs and the arranged marriage meeting. Or what about being a spirit living in Fan Tong's body, trying to pull Fan Tong across the seas in his dreams, borrowing his body, helping him out, and even exchanging with him when he didn't feel good?

Xiu Ye Lan feels that his words prove Naerxi right, if he was willing to take Fan Tong's place in suffering.

He asks Fan Tong if they had been close.

"Yeah, not very close. There probably aren't any people who are as not close as us."

Xiu Ye Lan apologizes and says he'll take responsibility, which confuses Fan Tong.

And that's Chapter 1~. So yeah, this is a story about how close Fan Tong and Xiu Ye Lan are, thanks to once sharing a body, but because of a mishap, Xiu Ye Lan has forgotten Fan Tong completely. This takes us up to Page 42 out of 157. I should practice my hand at short summaries. This is... not a summary, which is why I only got through Chapter 1 before I ran out of time. I can return later with some more of the story, or try my hand at a different doujinshi, if there's interest in either. :') (Hopefully more succinct summaries)
