the origin of my username...

Back in the SNES days, there was a video game called Lufia. I guess I must've liked that name quite a bit. While I was trying to think of a name for an original character of mine, I came up with "Luthia" (though I couldn't figure out where that name came from at that time.) My character was supposed to have an affinity with cats, so I decided that "cat" had to be part of the name. So I stuck it in the middle...and the result was "Lucathia." It'd be weird trying to write a story with "Lucathia" as the main character now...since that name has become mine more than anything. It'd be like writing a self-insert.

The "Rykatu" part comes from me trying to think of more original characters. I uh, somehow decided that spelling "cat" with a "C" was not cool enough so I went with a "k." ^^; This character is well, a guy, and has an affinity with dragons. So I divided up "ryu" and stuck "kat" in the middle just like what I did with "Luthia." ^^; (I thought dragon in Japanese was ryu but it's actually ryuu but what did I know then??)

At ffnet, I went by "Lucathia" at first, but I wanted to hide from my RL friends since they all knew I went by that name online. So I changed it to Rykatu L., knowing that they wouldn't be able to find me that way. After awhile, I stopped wanting to hide, so I changed it back to Lucathia...but I didn't want people who only knew me as Rykatu to not be able to find me anymore...so I smushed the two usernames together.

To this day, I feel weird looking at my lj name. To me, these two names are both first names and just don't go together at all. They're meant to be names of separate people. My "Lucathia" character had an actual last name, which was "Lagata." I do have lucathia and rykatu as lj accounts too. lucathia is for RL posts and well, rykatu is just my random testing posts, like for testing layouts and stuff. I'd buy a rename token for this account, but it's not really worth it. X3;

10 weird habits/little known facts...mostly little known facts since I don't know what would be considered a weird habit...

1. I'm slow. As in, it used to take me 1 to 2 hours just to eat dinner. Back in HS, I had trouble finishing eating during lunch. When one of my friends started eating slower (she's usually a fast eater) she joked that I was rubbing off on her.

2. I'm a horrible conversationalist. Or maybe it's better called as bad people skills. People say I'm shy, but I think it's just that I have no idea what to say usually and I rather not say anything at all if I don't have something meaningful to contribute.

3. I don't know how to ride a bike. Or swim. D:

4. My obsession with fishbones started around six/seven years ago when my aunt gave me a fishbone necklace.

5. I once broke my little toe jumping on the sofa with my cousin. After this Chinese doctor set it right again, I found out...I could move it. On its own. (I can't move any of my other toes separately)

6. My only non A grade that I received before university was a C...in P.E. 0_0;; That was in sixth grade.

7. I've attended Fanime for the past seven years. My first cosplay was of Tomoe from Rurouni Kenshin, though I didn't even get the color right. Very few people recognized me.

8. Quite a few of my anime/manga obsessions...started with the video game versions of them. 0_0;; Take Yu Yu Hakusho, for example. I saw my brother and my cousin playing a YYH fighting game on the SNES and was really intrigued. I read the manga afterwards. It wasn't until a long time afterwards that I managed to get tapes of the anime. My obsession with Tenipuri is another example. I liked it, sure, but I didn't get obsessed with it until after playing "Form the Strongest Team" on the PS2.

9. The first game I ever finished was...Pokemon Yellow, I think? I don't really remember. I do remember that I wasn't able to beat the Elite Four in Pokemon Red (that I started before Yellow). I ended up transferring my Yellow pokemon to Red...and beat it that way.

10. In 9th grade, one of my teachers had us write time-capsule letters that she said she'd give back to us four years later. I wrote a note to myself along the lines "Have you finished writing that fic (ENTER TITLE HERE) you started? Do you still like that guy?" Surprisingly, I did finish that fic (it was my very first fic ever. A truly horrid one. I've never taken it down though, so you can still find it.) and I don't like that guy anymore. The teacher never gave the letters to us though, so I don't remember what else I wrote to myself about.

1. Yuu Yuu Hakusho
The first series I ever really got into and devoured the entire manga of. I read the Chinese versions and watched the anime with Chinese subtitles, so I only ever knew the character's by their "Chinese" translated names. It wasn't until I discovered fanfic that I actually learned their names. My love for green comes from er, Kurama's eye color. .////. I just love Kurama's character, and I love the world of YYH. (I much prefer YYH's version of Shinigami than Death Note's.)

2. Rurouni Kenshin
Before...a month ago, this would not have been so high up on the list. But I've started reading RK fics again, and that renewed my love of RK and of Soujiro. My first fic ever was about Soujiro. The historic stuff about the Bakumatsu and the Shinsengumi is really fascinating (though I understood nothing of it the first time I watched it)...and everyone in RK has a tragic past. I remember laughing at the RK intro sequence. I still laugh at it, actually.

3. Hikaru no Go
Is addicting. Super addicting. The music, the characters, the games! And growing up and all that. My brother and his friend started playing Go over the net (though I never started). But HnG really does make me want to play.

4. Dear Boys
Very under appreciated series. The artwork for the second act is breathtaking. I love the team dynamics. I really love the passing of time in the series...how the second years are now third years and there are freshmen on the team. It's something that I'd like to see in Tenipuri but know will never happen.

5. Detective Conan
Kaitou Kid. I get together with my brother to watch the DC movies that come out every year. DC is like a constant in our lives. Heh.

6. Prince of Tennis
The series in which my friends and I obsessed over during our days on the HS tennis club. Seriously. They've long since moved on, but I'm still here. I like it for the rival teams and the silly video games that result from the physic-defying moves.

7. Honey and Clover
Is the first series that made me cry. It wasn't just a sniffle either. It's not a series I'd reread or rewatch...unlike the others I listed above. A very poignant series.

8. Mekakushi no Kuni
Has the most beautiful friendships ever. I doubt any of you know of this series. But I love Namiki. He's perhaps my favorite character of all time.

9. Venus wa Kataomoi
I'm throwing out these obscure titles that no one has ever heard of before. But well, if you like Honey and Clover, this one has somewhat similar vibes. It's about college and life and relationships and figuring out just what you want to do with your life. Guy and girl fall in love with the same guy...

10. Uninhabited Planet Survive
Trying to survive in the wild, stranded from home in a technologically advanced world...pretty fascinating.

I never passed floaters for swimming. D: I do know how to float, and since I can float, I can swim...on my back. But the requirement to pass floaters is to know how to do free-style. I don't know how to change my breath. Supposedly, we needed to pass a swimming test to graduate high school, but I never did pass it. I guess they let it slide.

No one taught me how to ride a bike. My childhood is deprived. X3;

Haha, I've never completed any swimming courses. So any style of swimming that I know is usually pretty sloppy because it's self-taught XD; That and I haven't swam in ages...

But if you have your own style, that means at least you won't drown. I think that's enough for me. As long as I know enough not to drown, all's good.

If I try to learn how to bike now...well, I know I'll be afraid of falling. And I'm so much higher off the grade now, the fall would be much harder. I just feel it's easier to fall when you're still a little kid. D:

The Fortress of Doom bgm from Lufia was my cellphone ringtone for the longest time!! XD; Descriptions of my characters? :3 I actually have...quite a few more characters from the same universe. I've drawn them too (a few years ago!), but have never shown the pictures to anyone. ^^;;

Lucathia: female. main character. Reddish-brown hair up to the shoulders. Somewhat slanted eyes...[Power: ???]
Rykatu: male, the "main" guy character. Bluish hair. Vacant eyes. Long eyelashes. Is on a journey to recover his soul. Dragon halfbreed. Haha, the typical angsty lead bishounen, I guess. Likes to write. [Power: ice.]
Kitkatsune: male, Lucathia's mentor in her abilities. No one has seen his true appearance. His hair is somewhat like Yoh's from Shaman King. [Power: shape-shifting]
Tekatme: male, Rykatu's rival of sorts. Has orange/reddish hair that flips up at the top/side (almost like dog ears). Is loud and can be quite rude at times, though he's just mostly oblivious to his ways. [Power: fire]
Ikatchi: male, blond, has pointy ears. Wears a bandanna and glasses to hide his eyes. Very smart. [Power: speed]
Nikatya: female. Long pink hair that's tied into a loose, low ponytail. Wears a long dress. [Power: her voice]
Felinay/Felidae/???: A goddess with three forms. The last form has never been named. As Felinay, she looks like an elementary kid. Wears her light brown hair in a ponytail. Her other forms have progressively darker hair. [Power: dimension control]

2/3: I'm definitely not cooler. XD;; But! You don't know how to swim? Bike? I'm not alone? :O

6: No B's in middle school or high school. Except for that one C in P.E. in sixth grade, but thankfully, 6th grade was kept separate from 7th and 8th on the transcript. I think the school was in the middle of becoming a 7th-8th grade only school. University's a different matter. X3;; For one, I paid less attention to grades. And it was a lot harder too.

Yup, I had a 7/8th grade transcript, though now that I think about it...I don't really think it mattered much. Though, it did help with getting into honor courses in 9th grade...I guess. 0_0;

xDD yes, i can still remember being on my dad's shoulders, CRYING MY EYES OUT as wave after wave of water crashed into us and HE WOULD NOT LET ME DOWN. to this day i just...don't go to the beach. xD;; if i'm forced to i will soak my feet and walk around the sand trying to avoid jellyfish (or like, throw rocks at em... xD;;;) exactly! which is also why i never learned how to rollerblade. > >;; when i go i'm just sort of walking in the rink.

Hm, the beach is only good for building sand castles! :D Except, it's probably a good idea to bring buckets and shovels or something, since shaping a huge sand castle by hand is really not good for the hands. Ahaha, I don't know how to rollerblade either, or skate. My only time at the skating rink really scared me. Before I went, I thought, "This'll be easy. I just have to move my feet like this." But when I got there...I clung to the side the entire time.

Er, yeah. Except I wasn't trying to get into a private high school. Hm. Darn, I could've been more laid back in middle school! XD;;

XD my first cosplay was also from RuroKen! I did Misao... I still am going to wear the costume ^^; even though my mama made it and it's incomplete. But it's so airy *__* and great to wear when it's hot XD which is why I <3 it.

A lot of those old games are just such classics. I like them because well, the story isn't all bogged down by graphics. Nowadays just watching the animation sequences takes a long time. But still, they're pretty, so I'm not complaining too much. Ehehe, those names that I created are so silly. But I've stuck with them and now I can't think of any new names. Your username is pretty. :D

Oo, are you referring to the turn-by-turn game where you choose a move by pressing a button and then both characters execute their moves? I really liked that one! (There were two that was like that). I also have the normal fighting ones. One was for the first part of the series and the other one was for the latter part, so it had Mukuro, Yomi, and the rest.

Uninhabited Planet Survive is one of the few anime I watched right when each episode came out. It has such an interesting basis for the plot! ^_^

How did you come up with your username? :O To me, it sounds like "my dream" because "mi" is a possessive in Spanish. XD;; Or maybe, "Dream, mine." Except, that's probably not what prompted you to make that name. X3;;;

Oh wow. I don't know anyone (other than you now!) who's played that game before!!! *_* How awesome!!! I loved that game. It was so fun! I especially liked changing from Kurama's human form to his youko form, and I also liked using Itsuki's power...that er, thing that eats people up and brings them to a separate dimension. okay, it's actually a term in X (CLAMP). which means dreamseer or dreamgazer. and it doesn't have the dash but that I was so naive and followed an X fansite spelling thus in became yume-mi instead of yumemi. ^^;;
this username I use it around the internet. but sometimes, it seems that in certain places, someone have already use this username. >_>;;
I chose this name because I have the ability to foresee MY own future, not the Earth future or something like destiny! XD
but then, I realize that I can only see this future dream if I'm not too tired or stressed. It comes occasionally in my life. sometimes it makes me goes crazy (like Kotori in X). and I see a lot of deja vu because of the future dream. ^^;;

Ahaha, yeah, part of what makes me like a series is how I got into it and what the series means to me. Most of the series I consider good ones are ones that I'll return to even after a long time.

When I watched YYH, it was not at all known in the US, or else I would've totally stayed up or slept late to watch it. Though, dubs would be iffy I guess it was showing where you lived? I heard a Chinese dub of it once when I visited Taiwan. :O

I watch it when I still live back in Taiwan. Those Chinese dub is not that bad, compare to US one. probably because its Asian language.

True. I only heard a bit of it. I like it better than the English dub. I do think sometimes that Japanese is easier to translate into Chinese than English. There are just some ideas that are easier to express.

Kurama's voice was done by a female in the Chinese dub too, I think? :O I remember that his voice was kind of...high pitched. Though, were there different versions of the dub?

The English dub of YYH...*shudders*. I heard that Genkai was mistakened as a man and Kurama as a female...but I think they corrected it later. I only watched one episode of it.

I've heard the PoT English dub. D: I've only watched the first few episodes. Momoshiro's voice made me laugh so hard when he repeated what he said. I guess the repeating the end of his sentence thing doesn't work so well in English.

I did see a KID at AX last year, but he wasn't wearing monocles!!! :( He was wearing normal glasses, and that's just not right. KID does not wear glasses. But other than that, it was a pretty good cosplay.

Ooh there was this online e-mail time capsule thing. I think I wrote something like 5 years ago and had it sent to my e-mail (shocked I still use that e-mail, but hehe that's not changing anytime soon since everything goes to it XD). Yeah one of those feelings...can't remember what I wrote in it. I can try and teach you, though I'm self-taught myself. Its not much fun to play online unless you know someone you can play w/ because, if you don't, one of two things tend to happen - 1) you play someone who's WAY above your rank or 2) you play someone and when you're about to win, they sign off so it doesn't count as a loss to their names. That's why I just quite playing online

I do remember the opening really well though, and I've heard part of it used in a Chinese song by this one Taiwanese band called 5566! :O I wonder which version was the original. The guys in 5566 even starred in this one basketball drama...too bad it wasn't based on Dear Boys. X3;;

5566! I only know one song by them... Long Time No See? Yep. XD One of them is incredibly... bishounen. *o* I want to see the manga version. Even though I'm lazy downloading manga. XD;;

I borrowed a DVD of one of 5566's concerts. It was a cool concert. XD;; I remember that song, Long Time no See. I quite like it. But my favorite song of theirs is Tong Yi Ge Shi Jie or something like that...I think that was the name.

The manga version of Dear Boys is really good. Especially Act II. I've seen raws for it around, but no scanlated version, sadly. The scanlations only go up to chapter 11 or so, I think.
