watching hikago dub

I very randomly went and watched the episodes of the hikago dub they have up at toonami jetstream. (episodes 15-17). Those are the episodes where sai first shows up on the net. *_* I was only going to watch one episode, but I ended up watching all three. And now I want to rewatch the entire series. Gah!! It's so captivating, that part of the series especially. And, Waya's entrance into the series is just. so. much. love.

On the English voices. Hah. My favorite voice is Mitani's sister's voice. Too bad she's such a minor character. But seriously. Her voice actor actually sounds...not fake.

Like before, I still like Akari's voice. It suits her. Tsutsui's is not bad though I can't get used to people calling him Kimihiro but he sounds somewhat forced.  And uh, I finally heard Yuuki Mitani's voice.  *dies* It's not bad either, except when I first heard it in episode 15, no one was on screen so I was trying to guess who that voice belonged to. I guessed Kaneko. Eep. Entirely off. Besides, Kaneko hadn't even been introduced yet. That voice, to me, sounded like a low female's voice. But it's nice...I got used to his voice really quickly.

I'm more used to Touya's voice now too. Not snorting out of my nose anymore. But I still don't like Hikaru's voice. It's...shaky. Sounds too old. I was very amused by the voices of all those people oversea. They have accents. I think their voices sound pretty good. Better than Hikaru's.

Hee. I like Waya's voice, but I especially like Fuku's. He sounds like what a teenage boy should sound like!! He sounds much more natural than Tsutsui, in my opinion. And he sounded playful too. Was Fuku that playful/mischevious? Hm.

I still find most of the voices pretty bad...but I was very entertained by the international amateur tournament, with all those fake accents. :)

They are pretty bad. I only really liked Mitani's sister's voice. Hah. None of the more major characters had good voices. Touya's doesn't do grunts very well. None of them do.

Hee, but fake accents was indeed amusing. x3

It's a good thing Hikago needs to be set in Japan. I'd have been alarmed if they translated Hikago as set in America like Shaman King.

Oddly enough I watched... Naruto episode 40 (or was it 41?) dubbed last night. Just to hear Shino's voice and graaaaaaah why did they make his voice sound all alien'like??? I don't like dubs, in general. XD;; *gets shot*

I've only watched Naruto episode 1 dubbed. I liked the Naruto dub a lot better than the Hikaru no Go dub. But eh, that was just my opinion from the first episode. *has not heard any others*

I don't like dubs much at all either. The voices sound out of place...and they don't do grunts/other noises well!

I normally don't like watching dubs if I can help it. XD;; But I thought Chinese dubs of DBZ movies were pretty good.

*squishes Shino* We still love you.

Or they just put in a random grunt when the character isn't saying anything. XD;;;

Oo! I've watched the Chinese dub of DBZ before. *nods* Uh...of the regular series though. I don't know if the voices were the same for the movies. The voices made me laugh sometimes, but I didn't think they were too bad.

But then, I hadn't watched any anime in the original Japanese at that time.

Oh, something that I've thought about with the grunts. In Japanese, people make noises (back channel) to show that they're listening...but that's less prominent in English. Makes dubbing sound weird sometimes because it's so unnatural. ^^;;

I didn't know any anime in Japanese existed at the time. XD Later when I hear the Japanese version of DBZ... I cracked up so hard at Goku's voice. XD;; *gets shot*

I'm waiting for a full DVD boxset (oh god, the amount of money I'll be spending then >.>)

I'll probably watch the dub on a few episodes, but I'm too in love w/ their Japanese voices <3 <3

I'm too in love with their Japanese voices too. Most of these English voices have shoddy acting. Like Tsutsui. He sounds exactly the same both when he's supposed to sound happy and when he's supposed to sound contemplative. D=

Yeah, instead of buying the offical DVDs one at a time, I'll just get the boxset when it comes out (which will be a while, I know)

There are only 6 or so DVDs out so far, ne? Will take a while.

But with a box set, you get a pretty box to go with it, right? *has never bought any boxsets for DVDs before, only for books*

Yeah, five episodes a DVD, so that makes the 75 eps on 15 DVDs, plus one more for the TV speical (yes, that's a ton)

Sooo.... say $25 per DVD times 16 equals $400 p.o

Thus, waiting and getting the boxset for say, $160 is a great deal (plus, the pretty box) Now, they COULD release it as a thinpack, which could make it much cheaper still (maybe $100 or less)

Man, I know WHY too much about this stuff ^^;;

It really does (of course, price variations depend on the company, popularity of the series, DVD content, etc)

I have a friend who is buying a 16 DVD series one by one, even though I explained to him he'll save money if he waits, but no, he wants the series NOW. The last DVD just got released, so I'm sure a boxset will come out soon that will actually be cheaper to buy than the rest of the series individually, which will leave him duplicate copies of the first five DVDs
