new layout...of sorts

I have no idea how people are able to do these overrides. I spent all day on it...and this is all I came up with. >_>

At first, I made a header, but it seems like headers and backgrounds with fishies would never match up correctly, so I banished the header altogether. So it became a header-less layout with a sidebar. This was the original header, but I've changed things around since then. It's supposed to be super plain (there's not even any color!), but it's not actually very pleasing after I added the side links. Perhaps I should have just stuck to normal links instead of fishbone font ones. I thought I'd go for a theme...but it didn't turn out quite as I thought it would.

The only thing I like is the comments link. See...if you comment by pressing the nice, whole fish, a fishbones icon pops out afterwards! ^^;;

I've always wanted a fishbones layout. XD;;

The links on the right...now that I look at them more, they remind me of those things optometrists use to test vision. ^^;;

Mm, it was just that back in middle school, my friends and I once chose animals to represent ourselves. I got voted by my friends as a cat. ^^;;

You can make the header and fishies match with Flexible Squares and an external stylesheet if you still want a header. You can probably do it with other layouts too, but I only know how to do it with FS.

I like flexible squares, but it's S2, isn't it? Sadly, I don't have a paid account and can't work with S2. D=

It's S2, but you don't need a paid account for it. I already used it when I had a free account.

Oh...I've used it before, but I didn't know that you could customize it...? How do you go about doing that? You mentioned an external stylesheet... 0_0;;

You can customize it a lot. Even with a free account. You need to make a style sheet (the_lj_reboot and s2flexisquares have tutorials and codes), upload it and link to it on the customization page (manage>customize>custom options>custom css). In the stylesheet you can change colours, add images etc. It's really easy once you've got the hang of it ^_^
