Summary: The vice-captains of the Twelve Holy Knights never thought that their duties would include looking after their deaged captains. They've really been missing out.

Cloud
The next to get assigned to captain-sitting was Cloud's vice-captain, who never in a million years would think of passing his captain off as some love child between them. His captain-sitting duties came at the tail end of what the Holy Temple would come to deem the "Paperwork Disaster Week," as Storm had remained a kid for nearly a week, giving Vice-Captain Storm plenty of time to spread rumors about the mysterious kid he brought around everywhere, who just so resembled his captain, even when the other captains cautioned him to keep it on the down-low.
The captains were all too defeated by the towering stacks of paperwork in Storm's room (that they had to deal with in Storm's absence) that no one had time to put a stop to Vice-Captain Storm's not-so-perfect plan B. (Little did Vice-Captain Storm know there had already been rumors about the Storm Knight having a kid, from when Roland had led Ceo around when he had shrunk for the first time. Perhaps if he had known, Vice-Captain Storm would have fanned alive a different set of rumors.)
Vice-Captain Luchi was happily cleaning a bookshelf, as he had already finished cleaning all of the cabinets, when Knight-Captain Moon walked in with a child in his arms. Now, while Luchi had decided to start worrying if he cleaned three more bookshelves and still couldn't find his captain, he hadn't quite reached that point, so he had yet to require straining his voice to call for his captain in a pitiful attempt to locate where his captain had vanished off to this time. Therefore, he was still quite cheerful in carrying out his task. Clean cabinets and shelves always made him feel accomplished, and boy was this shelf beautifully dust free now.
So, when Knight-Captain Moon walked in with a pink-haired boy who was almost a spitting image of his captain, just way younger, Luchi did not realize it right away, given his utter focus in this very important task. He still did not realize it even when Knight-Captain Moon walked over and cleared his throat to get Luchi's attention. In fact, it took a tiny hand reaching out and yanking Luchi's short ponytail for him to finally realize the presence of the newcomers. (Even then, he did not notice Knight-Captain Metal's presence at the door.)
"Ouch!" Luchi blurted, hand darting up to the back of his head. He turned. A tiny version of his captain was smiling at him, held up by Knight-Captain Moon. Luchi blurted, "Captain…?"
Demos blinked. (Luchi almost hyperventilated. He could see his captain's eyes! He could actually see him blinking!)
"I'm Demos! Not captain," the child said with a pout.
"Um…?" Luchi really didn't know what to say. Was this really his captain? Even from this brief interaction, Luchi could feel cheerfulness and playfulness ooze from this boy.
Confused, all Luchi could do was turn toward Knight-Captain Moon for help, but sadly, said captain could not see Luchi's pleading look, given how Vival was busy staring up at the top shelf. That was about as far as his neck would allow him to look. The shelf really was quite clean. Weren't libraries supposed to be much dustier places? Perhaps the clerics and holy knights enjoyed reading a lot more than Vival imagined? Vival himself enjoyed romances. Given the much better state of the library than Vival had expected, he might even wish to try his hand at writing some of his own stories for the shelves.
Fortunately for Luchi, Vival did not dump his captain on him without any explanation whatsoever, unlike two particular Knight-Captains who had decided to toss Ceo at his vice-captain like he was a sack of potatoes. Vival had quite a soft spot for baby Demos after all, so he would never do something as mean as leaving Demos without explaining what was going on, both to Demos and Demos's vice-captain.
"I have a mission with Metal. Cloud, be a good boy and watch after the library with your vice-captain," he told Demos. To Luchi, he said, "As you have been told, the Twelve Holy Knights are in a bit of a predicament. We aren't sure when we might turn younger, and we never know when we will suddenly return to our actual age. Your captain has lost several years once again. We will need your help watching after your captain in the meantime."
"I'm Demos! Not a cloud!" came the protest while Knight-Captain Moon was still explaining.
"Yes, sorry, Demos," Knight-Captain Moon cooed and lifted the boy up so he could actually see him before plopping him into Luchi's arms.
Luchi blankly received his captain into his arms. Knight-Captain Moon bid them farewell and headed to the exit of the library where Knight-Captain Metal was waiting for him. (This was when Luchi finally noticed him, as he peeled himself away from the wall to keep pace with Knight-Captain Moon, no longer looking like part of the wall. This all registered remotely, as Luchi's mind was still lagging behind, stuck on the thought of the boy he currently held, who was his captain yet not.)
Left alone with his new charge, Luchi made himself look down. Large eyes peered back up at him, nearly giving Luchi a fright. Never had he ever seen his captain's eyes so clearly!
"D-Do you like books?" Luchi asked hesitantly. They were in a library, after all. So books. But right after he asked that, he wanted to hit himself. Even shrunk, this was still his captain, no matter how different he may seem. How would his captain ever not like books?
Demos, however, for Luchi could not call him Captain without getting corrected again, just tilted his head to the side, as if Luchi were speaking Elvish.
For a moment, Luchi didn't know how to react to that. Then, he pulled some books off of the shelves and plopped them in front of Demos. When conversations led nowhere, sometimes it was better to just take action. Whether or not Demos liked books would become clear once Luchi put some books in front of him. If Luchi remembered correctly, his captain had been reading a book about pixies and their magical properties just this week, so it was quite possible that he would still be interested in that. Opening the book, however, led Luchi to slamming it shut right after that.
He never knew how vicious pixies were! Weren't pixies supposed to be small and cute? Luchi shuddered. This was definitely not a book suitable for young eyes, and now Luchi's image of pixies had been utterly annihilated.
In the end, he settled on a generic book about knights rescuing princesses and slaying dragons. Luchi did not mind using his voice to read this tale instead of straining it to call out for his captain, as was his norm. As he read, he was so engrossed in the tale that he momentarily forgot he had an audience. When he was about to turn the page, he abruptly remembered that he was supposed to be looking after his captain—his captain, who always vanished even when Luchi had his eyes on him.
He jerked his head up, eyes darting around hastily, trying to locate Demos, afraid his tiny captain might have disappeared on him like usual. Losing a kid would give him a heart attack! However, to Luchi's relief and shock, Demos was sitting on his stack of cushions that had been piled up on a chair to help him reach the table, listening to the story with great interest. He had not vanished, even though Luchi's eyes had not even been on him.
"Is that the end?" Demos asked and frowned. When there was no response, Demos pushed himself up and reached over to finish turning the page himself. It was obvious that the big brother had fallen asleep with his eyes open, so Demos could only take it upon himself to figure out the ending.
Luchi jerked awake at that, helping Demos turn the page so it would not get wrinkled. He still could not believe that Demos had not vanished. How was it that it was easier to keep track of his captain as a little boy than an adult? Weren't little kids supposed to be much harder to keep track of?! They always darted this way and that. You would think they were in front of you, but in the next moment, they'd already be behind your legs or on the opposite side of the room.
He read on, though this time, he glanced up a lot more, still finding it hard to believe that Demos was there every time he looked up, with no hint that he might disappear.
Once the tale came to an end, Demos beamed and declared, "I want to be a knight when I grow up!"
Luchi smiled back and closed the book. "You will be, Captain." The moment he said that, he slapped a hand over his mouth, for he already knew his mistake, but it was too late.
"Nuh uh! I'm Demos, not captain!" came the correction from Demos.
