*editing V2C7 of No Hero*
*rereads every volume again*
...Lucathia, this is not a productive way to translate.
In other words, I ended up rereading all of No Hero. 0____0;;;
Not sure which volume I like best, but I like it when all of the heroes are involved. And I love when we find out who each of the heroes are~. And why they became heroes! Unfortunately, the heroes are pretty much absent during v7-v8. ): Paid more attention to the short POVs at the beginning of each chapter this time. (They reveal a lot) They're narrated by different characters for each volume. The character on the cover is who the POV belongs to. It's fun just reading all of the beginning parts all at one time!
Poor Dragon Peace never gets enough sleep. :'D;; Ceo, you have a friend.
Some notes for myself. Very spoilerish about later No Hero volumes and each hero.
Dark Sun:
-protects the east
-real identity: Ri Xiang Ye
-DSII often switches with Ah Ye, but Ah Ye will have DSII pretend to be him instead of Dark Sun because DSII always makes the "right" decision to protect Ah Ye instead of the "hard" decision, one that might harm Ah Ye but help others
-identity is known by a lot of people... the Church, Father Yue, First Wind, Dragon Peace
-after V6, the entire world knows Ah Ye = Ri Xiang Ye
-23? Funny to think he's around the same age as Sun...
-Will look forever 18
Solitary Butterfly:
-protects the north
-both legs are modified
-real identity is most likely Ling Ding, a musician who plays at Seaside. Ling Ding wrote lyrics for Ah Ye's album about vampires titled "Endelis"
-Ling Ding sounds like the end of the idiom "Gu ku ling ding" which means "solitary/completely alone."
-She lost both legs in a car accident on the day of her wedding b/c of a police chase
-Her fiancee died in front of her trying to save his sister
-Her money for her modifications came from his life insurance
-Her name "Solitary Buttery" likely comes from the fact that she lost her husband
-uses two guns
-gets into a conflict with Dark Sun over an escaped convict. She wants to protect the convict from getting killed by Dark Sun or returned to the prison P29
First Wind:
-protects the west
-real identity: Ji Luo Chu, photographer, 28 before v4, 29 after v4
-Chu means "First"
-left arm is modified
-cut off his own arm to get the modification
-father was in a lot of debt and started using drugs
-after his father's death, mother tried to commit suicide via gas with his younger brother Luo Lun
-Luo Chu managed to save his younger brother, but his mom then committed suicide from the top of the hospital
-no wonder First Wind is after all the drug circles
-he reveals to Solitary Butterfly that he got money for his modifications from winning the lottery. If only his dad had held on a bit longer.
-once saved Dragon Peace and nearly adopted him at age 23, 5 years before the series
-the media likes to pair First Wind & Solitary Butterfly. Solitary Butterfly says there is only one person for her.
-becomes so busy with filming that Dragon Peace covers his territory a lot.
Dragon Peace:
-protects the south
-has a huge body that cannot easily be missed
-could only appear during the night (at first)
-real identity: Ah Ye's classmate Aren
-same age as Ah Ye
-father died when he was young. mother died from a criminal's gunfire during a bank robbery when he was in high school
-was used as a hostage during the same robbery
-was pushed off a cliff once the criminal escaped the police's barricade
-saved by First Wind
-wanted revenge for his mother
-stole Leanna and Abner's DNA experimental medicine in order to avenge his mother
-involuntarily transforms at full moon and loses his mind if he transforms during the day
-starts becoming unstable and needs expensive medicine
-Leanna and the others become friends with Ah Ye because they can tell he is wealthy and they need help
-thinks Ah Ye is too nice and perfect, but then thinks he is an alien
-eternal fried rice cooker for everyone
-the tall and slender stick
-never gets enough sleep
-did not think Ah Ye = Dark Sun because Ah Ye always looks awake in class and gets perfect scores
I should include the chicken merchant in Follow the Sign. XD; Regret that I didn't write about him instead of a random merchant! Maybe I can still change it...
Side note: The chicken merchant is married.

NO HERO? YES HEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Date: 2015-01-27 06:14 am (UTC)*trembles but doesn't click the Spoiler tag* After the shock from V2C7, I don't think my heart will be able to stand it.
... Actually, right now was the perfect time to post V2C7! I just realized the spoilers can be construed in two ways.
[AH! I don't know how to use spoiler tags! AVERT YOUR EYES!]
1. Dead Father
a. "Killing" Father in about V1C2 of EH
b. Lance is dead. (Actually OddSquad readers already know about the Lance = Father thing... Plus No Hero V1C5... Hm...)
2. Clone replacement
a. V4 tantrum throwing and DSII
b. DSX, lying, manipulative, crybaby extraordinaire
So if readers assume the a. option, they're not actually spoilers! But assuming the b. option might be spoilerish. I haven't actually read far enough into V5 to tell how Lance dies.
It's always exciting when characters meet together, because the more people, the more horrible things that can happen! You can't have a story without horrible things! It's called conflict!
Re: NO HERO? YES HEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Date: 2015-01-27 08:02 am (UTC)Please don't click the spoiler tag. This one is definitely full of spoilers. XD;; I decided to jot down some major points about each of the heroes since apparently my memory is really, really bad that everything felt new despite this not being my first read through of the series. :'D;;
I'm a bit confused over what has been revealed so far and what hasn't been revealed so far in the translations of EH, but I'm assuming that people would think 1) father = what was mentioned in V1 and 2) clone = DSII.
But yes, there is that b) option you've listed. :3;;;; Just checked right now, and it seems that the translations is exactly at the reveal of Lance = father part?
Lots of horrible things to come. :'D;; (but also exciting secret identities, come to me, all the secret identities)

Date: 2015-01-27 06:28 am (UTC)Which Eclipse Hunter/No Hero characters have official English names? I know Ezart is one, and I'm guessing Elian is another.
I'm kind of curious because since DSII and DSX are character names, I assumed their names were based off "Dark Sun." But a recent stamp for Ah Ye as Dark Sun was labeled "Black Sun." By that logic, then wouldn't they be BSII and BSX? But having Dark Sun as the official translation would also explain why Eclipse Hunter doesn't have a character named Eclipse, but Dark Sun instead!
Then others like Eli and Eloise or Ah Ye's college friends have Western-style names, so those ones come more naturally.

Date: 2015-01-27 08:31 am (UTC)There's a map in V6 that includes some place names but no character names. Or well, it does have one name. "An Shiang Ye home!" More of a Taiwanese way of spelling out his name than the pinyin way, which is more common but also more rooted in mainland Chinese. Ooooh X-Killer has a logo~~. The year given is 2112 AD.
I assume DSII and DSX are based off of "Dark Sun," which is why we've translated his name as Dark Sun. Haha, I've seen that stamp. Maybe they forgot and just put Black Sun? Black Sun would be an even more literal translation of 玄日. On some old pictures for EH, the title is actually given as "Hunting of the Dark Sun." I've never found very good quality of these covers and images, but from the low quality photos I've seen, that's what they say.
I'm quite glad it's DSII and not BSII. I would rather think of Nintendo game consoles than swear words. But yeah, the title of Eclipse Hunter is totally referring to Dark Sun. 玄日 = Dark Sun, 玄日狩 = Dark Sun Hunter. XD;;; Very literal but cool. :D (In consideration of DSII, Dark Sun is the only way to go~~)
please excuse me...

Re: please excuse me...
Date: 2015-01-28 03:23 am (UTC)I likely won't be updating this entry. Was just taking some notes before I forget stuff from my read through. Though this wasn't my first time reading the story, I'd already forgotten about most of the details I jotted down here. ^^;;
Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-27 08:07 pm (UTC)Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-28 03:42 am (UTC)No Hero is a fascinating read, but I often feel that I appreciate the execution more than being personally invested in the story. Charles is always trying to control his emotions, so even his narration feels a bit emotionally removed! It's cool to have such a different voice here in NH, but for the same reason, NH has yet to make me cry, unlike many of Yu Wo's other stories. :'D; I feel more removed from the story. There's V9 left to go though~~.
NH feels less of an epic, more of a personal story involving family drama. XD;; (Family drama everywhere. Charles with his family drama, Ah Ye with his family drama). It later touches more upon the themes of duality, what makes a human human... as well as lifespan issues!
I don't have a favorite favorite character in NH, so that makes things a bit less fun than reading LSK, because boy is it fun to fangirl over every little scene and mention Adair gets, haha.
I'll join Melody in trying to get First Wind's autograph though. XD
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-28 07:39 am (UTC)Hmm, maybe that’s why. I guess I do feel a little removed from the story… Sun, what have you done to me? You’ve made me unable to read from anyone else’s pov. (Curious about what happens in V9)
I think I’m looking forward to learning more about Charles’ family than Ah Ye’s.
Adair… It makes me wonder. If he was less than the man he is, would we still love him as much? Of course, Sun’s my favorite because we have a lot in common- and I seriously want to teach him all the wonders of hot wax.
Why settle for an autograph? I’d get a picture and stalk him.
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-28 08:41 am (UTC)With V9 being the conclusion, I dearly hope they'll return to the city and that we actually get confirmation about Solitary Butterfly's identity. While I think there really can't be anyone else given the name, confirmation would still be nice. It's already been eight volumes! Unless we're never meant to officially find out... because Charles doesn't know. But I think V9 will likely focus on Ah Ye and his brother vs Charles and X. With all the parallels highlighted. There is also the Church and P29 to deal with, but Ah Ye's brother totally feels more like the big bad than either of them. Though I guess v8 already covered that...
Imagining Adair without Sun's influence is very hard! He'd be one of the cute, idealistic knights, I suppose. Maybe a bit like Elijah. Mixed with Blaze. Hero worship and all.
I am not so skilled that I'd be able to stalk a hero!
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-28 05:41 pm (UTC)I gotta say I didn’t even know there was a V9. PR only has the 8 v’s up. Glad to hear it’s longer. Ah, and that spoiler really made me interested, thanks so much!
Lol! A mix between Elijah and Blaze? That’s so hard to imagine! Even if his personality changed a bit, I’d still love him for his looks. (Sun, you’ve got competition!)
Stalking’s the easy part; it’s when you get caught that you need to have good persuasive and escaping skills. *taken from experience*
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-29 04:51 am (UTC)Are you going by what Adair looks like in the manhua, or just based off of descriptions from what Sun has said?
Part of the reason why I like First Wind is because of his looks. XD;;;; He has that blond thing going for him, plus the manner of a gentleman. Very good Sun Knight candidate. But him being older is even better. XDDD Everyone else is too young~~~
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-29 05:39 am (UTC)XP Adair looks very handsome going by either one of those, nn?
*laughing* That's right! Most of Yu Wo's protagonists are in their early to mid twenties! lucathia-jiejie might be more comfortable with someone closer to her age. (*throws Liola at her* Just pretend he really is 25!)
Wah! Everyone's really young? How do they finance their hero expenses, then? I expect that in my early twenties, I"ll be crying over student debt!
I went to search up more First Wind pictures, but apparently there's a Kancolle character that uses the same characters as the kanji for her name! (I have no idea how he maintains it, but First Wind's hair actually looks pretty cool... But I AM laughing at the thought of how much hair gel the Luo Chu cosplayers must have had to use!)
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-29 06:20 am (UTC)I've never really thought of Adair as handsome. |D;;; Maybe because Sun never really describes him that way, only that he looks older than his actual age, ahaha. (Then again, maybe it's because appearance-wise, I like long hair. |D;;;)
Seeeee, when I first started reading 1/2 Prince, the characters weren't tooooo far from my age (yay, college age characters!) and then when I was reading LSK, it was just perfect because Sun was totally my age. XDDD But it's been a few years since, hahaha. But I like that many of Yu Wo's main characters are at least university age or older. Even Ah Ye is university age now! Yes yes, Liola, come to jiejie~~
True, not everyone is rich like Ah Ye. |D;;;;
His hair looks longer in his pictures as First Wind vs his civilian identity. Ah Ye's hair is understandable, but what happens with First Wind? XD;;;
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-30 06:38 am (UTC)I’m the same! As soon as they describe him as a nice-looking gentleman I was all for him.
You know, I just realized I’m super old… When I read fics/manga or watch anime, I come to the astonishing discovery that the main characters are usually teenagers. I mean I knew when I was their age but now that I’m 20 it’s like I’m watching little kids. Now I want older men! Sun until I turn 24, you’ll be everything from a role model (Ha! Sun- a role model!) to someone I look up to (just look at the full head of dazzling hair, I could gaze at it all day), and discreetly (or not so discreetly), in blatant terms, “fangirl” over. (*Shivers* God, I don’t want to use such a word. My skin is crawling.)
P.S. For some reason, I can't picture First Wind with blond hair. It always comes out as an icy blue-silver in my mind. Any pics I can look at?
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-30 08:09 am (UTC)And then other characters are like 14 and 12 and 13 and I realize that they're younger than me but are capable of dealing with so much more than I can. Then I realize they're the same age as the junior high students and things seem very strange.
As a result, character ages usually have importance just as a number to me. I always consider them mentally older than I am.
(XD If I don't see official art pictures of a character before I read the series, I will be completely unable to reconcile my mental image with the artwork's depictions. For example, I pictured nearly everyone in Eclipse Hunter with short hair. Then it turns out they have long hair. I did eventually get used to Ah Ye and Ri XiangYan's hair, though... But just them.)
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-02-01 04:46 am (UTC)That’s why I prefer reading manga because then I don’t really have a choice. On the other hand, I love reading a story in depth which is somewhat lost when it comes to manga; hence I enjoy fanfiction the most because it’s based on characters that already have pictures online.
Yu Wo really likes her men with long hair and her women with short, doesn’t she. (I’m more than happy about that- long hair~)
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-01-30 08:36 am (UTC)Yes, it's a weird feeling realizing that... wait, these main characters are only teenagers! That's super young! It's cool having older characters, especially characters who are already working~~.
*dumps pics of First Wind*
Profile view.
I love this one~~
Civilian identity. Hair is so much shorter.
And a black and white one. He looks older in this one?
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-02-01 05:15 am (UTC)…I’m guessing you like the “working men” type. Do you like men in uniform too?
You know, I feel like all I ever do is ask you for stuff (like pics and links).
Pic1: It took me half a minute to find First Wind… And God damn, Dark Sun is sexy! I can’t stop looking at his naval, his body is so perfect! I also didn’t think Solitary Butterfly’s hair was that short. I thought it was a little past her shoulders. Oh and I usually picture Dragon Peace as a rock solid, orange monster man… I don’t know why.
Pic2: I can see why you love this one. The angle, the moon, the hair, the expression, even the outfit, it’s all so dazzling! For some reason, I really like focusing in on the chin and lower face.
Pic3: Damn, that’s a change. Still hot but in a different way. If I was walking by him on the streets, I might do a double take but he isn’t quite up to drool worthy (I think it’s because of the short hair).
Pic4: I… At first I didn’t realize he was wearing pants. I thought... um, maybe he was wearing some kind of sexy future short shorts. I like the mysteriousness around him.
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-02-01 08:50 am (UTC)Uniform, yes. Police uniforms and military uniforms are lovely~~. Knight uniforms are great too. Also, senpai characters are awesome.
Half a minute to find First Wind? XD;; That's quite a long time! I think Solitary Butterfly's hair is longer in her civilian form. Dragon Peace would cry if he were orange. Dark Sun is swoon-worthy. His wings especially.
Heh, First Wind's civilian identity looks much younger than his hero self and not all that gentleman-like. XD;; More of an energetic/lively young man~~. Looks approachable.
Re: Dear Lord, not another one
Date: 2015-02-02 01:00 am (UTC)It took me half a minute because I couldn't stop looking at Dark Sun... he's so captivating!
He does look younger! I'd almost say he looks around 20-23.
