Replaying Tales of Symphonia in Japanese. Even though it's a
replay...I'm missing even more things than the first time...since this
time it's in Japanese! >_<
This version that I have is the Japanese PS2 version...so it probably has differences with the original Japanese version for the gamecube too...but since I don't have that game but rather the US gamecube version, I'll be comparing those two versions.
The opening:
The JPOP song "Soshite Boku ni Dekiru Koto" is used in the opening...and not "Starry Heavens" that was used for the gamecube Jap version. I watched the opening through a few times...and really can't say that I like it. While the song is nice, it doesn't fit the animation at all. The English version with the instrumental in the background fit so much better. It was much more dramatic and the timing was right. The jpop song...was a bit TOO upbeat.
Names:
Collete = Collet
Genis = Genius (a true genius!)
Rainne = Refill
Sheena = Shihna
Zelos = Zelos
XD;; (for some reason...I keep spelling his name Zellos!)
Not too much difference in the names...except for Rainne's and some minor spelling differences. I haven't actually played very far in the game yet...so I haven't meet Sheena or Zelos yet. D= Or Presea and Mithos...and everyone else.
Voices:
Lloyd (Katsuyuki Konishi): sounds like your typical protagonist for an anime show. Fits pretty well.
Collete (Mizuki Nana): voice is much higher than the US version.
Genis (Orikasa Ai): sounds quite similar to the US version, but I like this better ^_^
Rainne (Touma Yumi): sounds very similar to the US version...but she sounds way more obsessed with old ruins. Very good acting for those scenes. :3
Kratos (Tachiki Fumihiko): voice is so much deeper...and er...scratchy too. I liked the US voice actor better...
Darn...I want to hear Mithos's voice already!!! But I'm only in the second dungeon or so. -_-;;
Other tidbits:
-Chosen = miko
Collete's a miko for Martel!
-voices for the skits!!!
The skits make so much more sense with voices. And the icons shake and shrink and grow larger according to what their saying. So much more emotion in these skits!!
-Genis sometimes says "mada mada dane" when he's the one to finish the battle. So cute~! It's fun listening to their sayings after battle and what they say during battle. Sometimes, the US version sounds a bit dorky. But no such thing with the Jap version...or perhaps...it's just because I like listening to Japanese better than English.
-still not used to using the PS2 controller while playing TOS...I almost died once because I couldn't figure out how to change characters to use during battle -_- Maybe I should read the instruction manual after all....nah.
Overall...not too many differences. Except for the skits. The SKITS!!!! D= Wish they could have included the whole voice acting thing for the US version. >_<
I wish I could take videos. *wants to record the part where Mithos comes in with Takayama Minami's voice*
I'm probably not going to be playing the game much...since I have an overload of classes. 6 courses...20 units in all...with 15 units being the norm and 21.5 (or was it 22.5? I forgot...) being the max. And, well, searching for a job that's going to eat my time on top of that...;_; There goes all my free time. Elaborated more about my boring school life at

Date: 2005-09-04 10:15 pm (UTC)I like Kratos' english VA better too..
And Zelos' name is always spelled Zelos. No double L. ♥

Date: 2005-09-04 10:34 pm (UTC)I first heard Kratos's VA in Metal Gear Solid. I think he was...Liquid Snake or something? Hearing him as Kratos was so fun! As for his japanese voice...I just can't seem to like it much. Perhaps if I hadn't heard the English voice before...I'ld like it better.
I've only played the game for like...5 hours. -_-

Date: 2005-09-04 11:48 pm (UTC)That's my number. Is that the one you called? Unless it's out of battery or I have it on silent because I'm in class, I always pick up. 0_0
Ah, but I have received calls that show me "private number," and when I pick up...the other line hangs up immediately! That's not you, is it?

Date: 2005-09-05 12:56 am (UTC)I only have a Japanese PS2...so I had to buy it for that system. Still...I think ToS works better on the gamecube. Less loading time too. Though having the entire game on one disc is nice, instead of the two minidiscs for the gamecube.
See the opening song? I have Starry Heavens (the gamecube one) but I don't have the new song for the PS2 version. Was hoping to hear Starry Heavens in the opening. =/

Date: 2005-09-06 05:38 am (UTC)I actually haven't finished that many myself, though I've started quite a lot. It gets too hard sometimes. XD;; Takes a lot of time too...
*only has a really short list of finished games*
What games do you usually play?

Date: 2005-09-08 04:43 pm (UTC)I'm not a hardcore gamer (can you even be one if you haven't finished a single game?) and the things I go for are story plot and graphics. I think a major reason why I never finish games is because I end up reading fanfiction half way through and spoil myself. I end up finding out the rest of the story plot and then...well suffice to say I still haven't finished any games. ^^;;;

Date: 2005-09-09 12:29 am (UTC)Hehe, I get what you mean. The part about reading fanfiction halfway through. Sometimes, I actually want to finish a game or finish watching anime just so that I can see type of fanfiction there is for that series. XD;; Motivates me to finish the games faster!
Very true for Harry Potter too. I finished reading the six book really fast...so that the fics floating about wouldn't spoil me. XD;;
