Female Warrior picspam

Since I'm currently on a Female Warrior kick as you can see from my changed header... =P

Picspam ahead. Rife with spoilers! Though... there really isn't much to spoil, as the actual story hasn't even been written yet. You will be spoiled about the two short prequels though! (like about which characters show up and how they relate to each other). Most of the characters below actually haven't shown up yet. It's just that Yu Wo already asked the artist (Wu Ling) to design the characters. I feel like we have more complete designs here than we even have for the 38th generation. XDDD If you just want to admire the drawings, the first part of the post is mostly spoiler-free, if you don't count seeing the designs for the knights as a spoiler. XD I'll keep my commentary to a minimum in the first half and let you make your own conclusions.

I feel kind of bad about all the hype because the second prequel might be a bit of a letdown the higher you raise your hopes... Since really, nothing happens yet. XD;;

First off, Female Warrior is about the 1st generation of the Twelve Holy Knights that we first hear about in the Legend of Sun Knight. I suppose this tidbit would be a spoiler, except... if you're like me, you probably became intrigued by Female Warrior because of knowing it's related to LSK. XD; Only two prequels have been written so far. The main story hasn't been written yet, and the "Twelve Holy Knights" hasn't been formed yet either. In fact, none of the characters even call themselves knights, so I have no idea how they get from their current place to later become the Twelve Holy Knights... I guess we'll find out in the future. It'll probably take a while.

Aaaanyway, have some pics! They are super beautiful, drawn by Wu Ling. I'm sure you can guess what positions each of them have. :D

























Alright, now I'll start rambling. =P If you don't want to get spoiled about what little is out about Female Warrior, this is a good place to stop. That, or don't read my commentary. XD

This is the character guide that came with the first prequel. Anyway, that's a cool looking harp. I really have no idea how he goes from being a bard who uses a harp to sing ballads... to becoming a knight who uses a sword... how in the world does that happen...

This first character guide only contains a few characters. But as you can see, we actually have official English names attached with these characters! :OOOO (Whether PR will stick with all of them or not depends on if they make sense as English names though~)

So yeah. Our mysterious bard's name is Silvester Uriah Nate. If you only read the first letter of each part of his name, you'll see that his name spells out SUN. ;)

She is said to be very androgynous and is often mistaken for a guy. She doesn't ever mince her words. Carol is seriously damn cool. Those are two huge swords.

Carol's blades. It's actually one blade that can be divided into two depending on how she wants to use it. Middle is of the blade as one weapon while the bottom image is when you take the blade apart.


Lancero is the Holy Emperor. The world of Female Warrior is quite different from what we get in LSK. It seems that Lancero has just managed to unite the place even though some areas are already starting to become corrupt (such as officials abusing their power). Carol was known as the Warrior Queen who fought under Lancero. His clothes look hard to walk in. XD

Wow, from just the pictures, I thought that maybe Hell = Carol in disguise??? But the profile makes Yu sound unlike Carol, so I have no idea anymore. It seems likely that Hell is probably a different person... making it so that they actually do have twelve people altogether. (eleven would be a lonely number...)

ETA: KAJDL;A I just noticed that the Chinese characters used in Shahot and Cash's last names ARE THE SAME. So there must be a typo in the English translation used here. =P Elante is closer to the pronunciation than Elate. SO DOES THIS MEAN THAT SHAHOT AND CASH ARE RELATED TOO... So are like, half of the 1st gen related or what... because currently so far...

We learn in prequel #2 that Cale's paternal grandfather's younger sister had relations with an elf (resulting in Halfleaf). Halfleaf has a younger brother (Cash) who has a different father from him. (Wait, how old does this make Halfleaf and Cash...) Cale meanwhile, is a bastard son. I wonder how Shahot fits in... if he's also part of this messed up family...

ETA 2: Any theories about how these people relate to each other and how they finally get together? XD; My theory is that Shu and Felaxe both joined because of Carol. They seem to really like following her orders. XD; Maybe they're nobles or part of the court and were sent by the emperor to serve Carol, who used to be the Warrior Queen. :3;

I think it is most likely Halfelf since in some of the drawings you previously shown halelf and earth were always together especially during the height comparison and in the header they are always placed side by side.

That's true! I just checked, and it was indeed Halfleaf who speaks about his brother. Even though Cale is related, he says he's never seen the other two before this, so I suppose he doesn't feel all that close to them.

And for my comments:...This was more than I thought XD. The first generation is just like the legend.
The first Sun knight is...Just like was in the legend (...But I agree with Blaze, he is just a little, but little sissy XD)...And how the hell a bard ended as a swordman?...Maybe he was like Sun and first he got choose wrongly his proffesion in the first place?

And wow, I never thought that Carol was a girl. She really looks like guy. And I NEVER thought that she was the Judgement XD.

I would really like to read a fanfic, at how the 38th generation meets the 1th generation. I really can´t to wait to hear their complains about their predeccesor...And what will be the thought of the 1th generation seeing their succesors XD...I would love to see Silvie and Shahot, seeing the true characters of the Sun knight and Storm knight XD (Storm would really like to hit Shahot for having blue hair!)

I'm really curious how Silvie ended up as a swordsman. Bard -> (Holy) Knight! What a change. And he's even the leader, isn't he? Silvie seems to be a pretty good bard, and he doesn't seem like a very good fighter at the moment... so I don't know. XD;; I don't feel the profession of a holy knight fits him very well, but then, I suppose there is a reason why the Sun Knight has never been known to be a perfect swordsman. XDDDD He wasn't even a sword wielder in the first place...

Where did all these divine weapons come from anyway? (And are they still the same ones as the ones we see later in LSK... those would be some ancient weapons then).

See, now you've spoiled yourself. =P Female Warrior is Carol's tale, and yes, she is the 1st generation Judgment Knight. I believe she is the only female among the holy knights, but most of the knights haven't been introduced yet, so who knows. We just have these drawings to go by, and the character profiles. XD; But the "female" part in Female Warrior should be referring to Carol.

38th generation meeting the 1st generation would be hilarious. (I know some fans on Chinese sites had already been doing fanwork for things like this) Because oh man, I can see Grisia complaining about needing to fall drunk within 3 cups of alcohol, not being able to love women, having to keep up his appearances and speak all that rubbish... and then Lesus would find out that his counterpart was female. XD;; Shahot and Ceo are complete opposites of each other. I feel Shahot would be utterly appalled that Ceo can't handle women. On the other hand, Georgo would probably scare Cash witless... I wonder what's up with Shahot's "blue" hair. XDDD Hope we finally get the story behind that. :3;; I mean, we find out that Leaf was actually a half elf, so... XDD

So I assume Silvie will be the leader... though I don't know how he'll end up in that position, if he does. Haha, from straws... XD;; It actually sounds plausible! Hahaha,.Grisia is so much like the legends if he even got the swordsmanship part right. XD

Grisia sure is practical. I would be wary of breaking something so ancient too, haha.

I don't know if Carol would see Silvester that way. XD;; He seems more like a kid? In comparison to her at least, he feels much younger, and Carol has other romantic connections already...

Silvie is a bard after all. XD; (Perhaps the legends about the Sun Knight's speech resulted from how Silvie could sing great ballads. XDD;; )

Thank you for sharing!! Female warrior sounds really interesting. At first, I thought the both the first generation Judgment and the Sun knight were female. I guess it is just the Judgment knight.

This series shows a lot of promise. I cannot wait for it to come out. It seems that the Sun knight is more of a comic relief. In a way, he sort of reminds me of Gui from 1/2 Prince.

The drawings for the first generation of holy knights is just beautiful. This series seems more planned out than the 39th generation of holy knights. Lol

Silvester is fairly silly, and he also comes off as fairly innocent. I suspect he'll be part of a lot of the humor in Female Warrior, haha. He's already giving Carol a lot of trouble in the prequels...

Well, Yu Wo had already planned Female Warrior back in 2009~2010. (or maybe even earlier, but that's when she published the first prequel) XD; She's been wanting to write it for quite some time! But she wanted to wait until after she finished with LSK. And then 39 LSK happened, haha.

The characters are majorly androgynous, though @.@ So there's only one female warrior? :/ I saw the title and then the pictures and was going through them seeing everyone as female without a problem until Cash, but I figured he was just a more masculine-looking girl...and then I got to Felaxe and went 'what.' ^.^; Even then I was trying to think of him as a very, very manly girl.

So then when I scrolled down and realised the only girl was Carol I was very confused XD This world looks really interesting, though! And I find the picture used for the afterword title really, really amazing *o*

Only one female among the group, haha, though it seems people have been guessing that maybe the Sun Knight is female, or all of the knights are female. But nope, only Carol seems to be the female among the group.

I saw them as all guys with the exception of Carol, though Halfleaf is drawn quite feminine... I did look at all the drawings again, and I suppose Silvester could be mistaken for female too... hahah, wow, you even managed to think of Felaxe as a very manly girl? XD

Their eyelashes are so long; it's misleading T.T Haha, I was so sure they were all supposed to be female I kept trying to rationalise Felaxe (I mean, if you can easily see long-haired, feminine characters as guys it should go the other way too, and I knew a girl once who I thought was a guy until she started playing a match in a girls' sports event), but it was his picture that really made me question what I was seeing ^.^; After a small paradigm shift I was able to see them as guys, but I...would really not have picked Carol as the girl if I was told there was only one XD

XDDD Hm, I was predisposed to thinking that Carol is female while the others are not, so when I looked at these drawings, that's what I saw. :3;; But I find it really cool that Carol does look androgynous in these drawings like what her appearance is meant to be like (though I guess everyone else looks androgynous too, hahaha).

Oh wow, that was quite an experience. Did the girl operate under that understanding for a long time, or was she someone you didn't know too well? :3

Actually, it's not very uncommon for me or the people around me to get confused about people's genders in real life, for some reason ^.^; Parents don't colour-code their kids anymore :P And there are so many long-haired guys and short-haired girls too >.< The girl in question had short hair and a girlfriend, so most people who didn't know her thought she was a guy at first (including me) :P

SUN looks so clumsy with his sword XD perhaps what they said about Grisia being the most similar to the sun knight of the legend is not so far fetched as we thought >v<

the stern faction is so cool!! i was like: (*w*) my eyes almost turned stars as i watched them XD

now i see the ice knights popsicle looking more like an icicle, and i think blaze's weapon is actually a broad sword made of fire, so what we see is actually only the handle (that or it really is an axe or an axe-like weapon), moon definitely looks like a prince, metal looks so mischevious and stone looks like a seasoned warrior or martial artist (with his posture and the way he holds himself) he really looks tough (and stubborn XD). i'm now in love with earth he is so pretty and cute and cute! XD, storm looks kind of sexy ;) and cloud sounds like such a practical person (also a little cold).

Carol is way too cool, she looks very composed and it's hilarious how she came to be worried over Silvie (meaning she is kind hearted) as for hell, in my opinion it can still be Carol in disguise, i mean, different hair color makes no different person (take the dragon's brigandine for example), she/he also uses 2 swords and maybe she/he doesn't talk because she/he doesn't want to be discovered. I felt that Hell looked a little like Carol in these drawings (and for some reason, I feel Hell looks feminine here?), and Hell uses two blades, like Carol. Though Hell does seem to hold himself differently than Carol (as seen in the top banner I have in my journal at the moment) and his eyes are shaped differently. So yeah, lots of evidence against, haha. I adore the idea of having twelve knights altogether, eleven comrades by their side, so if Hell is indeed someone separate from the rest of them, that would be cool. I was just spinning some theories because Hell was assumed to be a secret identity. Just of whom, who knows. XD;

We get some hints about the God of Light later on in LSK in the last few volumes, so... It doesn't feel likely that Ohmygod is the God of Light, but Ohmygod makes me so curious. How does he fit in?! Maybe he's one of the forms of the God of Light, like you said. XD;; (I hope this isn't a parallel universe)

Lancero the Holy King asked Carol to marry him, but she refused him and left despite gaining the title "Warrior Queen," only staying long enough to lead the army. The Holy King does indeed already have another wife. Female Warrior starts with Silvester looking for the Warrior Queen, as he wanted to ask her (for his teacher) about why she left.

I was re-watching this post while talking to a friend about Ah! Megami-sama, I wasn't really planing on showing it to her, since she is rather.... "if it's not from Japan, I don't care about it"; I was looking at the second character guide cover; but the art-style caught her interest so I showed it to her, and clarified "that's a she", I don't think she believed me, at least not at first, and I showed her the rest (so I'll also include a bit of her cometary in []).

I do believe they are, in fact, I'd say the only ones that don't seem plausible are Moon's (since I've no idea how to lock and unlock it from sword to wip); Ice's (it's... to jagged, I don't think a sword like that would work, and no idea what material it could be made of); Metal's second dagger (the one that's open in half.)

Blazes ax/sword would be tough (and I'd need to see a lateral view); and Stone's would probably be structurally unstable (because of the hole in the middle) but could also be built

I'd say the strain on both limbs of the bow is quite likely irregular (I'd think the upper limb would have more strain to it), then the way the string applies the strain on the upper limb is from the side (I don't think that's good), the arrow's form is wrong (it needs a nock for the string to be able to impulse it) then the final resting place of the string is pretty much the center of the bow itself, I'm pretty sure that could cause interference when shooting and Halfleaf would probably get his fingers whipped every time he shoots

could probably work as a... rope dart, or for strangulation (certainly not a knightly thing to do... but.. probably a thiefy thing to)

It didn't struck me until now but asI looked at Hell closely, I noticed that aside from his two swords, his entire outfit is equipped with weapons. His shoes and gloves are spiked and his skirt is seemingly filled with spears that can be used as a net.

Just thought I'd let you know that Blaze's weapon looks to be a type of Halberd. A halberd is a type of broad-bladed axe sort of crossed with a spear and was a medieval anti-cavalry/anti-armor weapon. The spear part was used to kill the horse a knight was riding on and the heavy axe blade to shear through the knight's plate armor.

Ice and Hell sure have a lot of things in common and even have similar personalities judging from their likes and dislikes. They are both reserved and cold, assassin types (one of Ice's nickname being Assassin/Killer while Hell is historically known as the assassin for the 12 holy knights) with a possibly dark past (Ice's reluctance to speak and show his emotions and Hell questioning the essence of a human being). The stark difference even though they have similar personalities is when it comes to the person whom they admire. Ice looks up to Carol while Hell looks up to Silvester. Speaking about assassins, I wonder who would win in a fight to the death between Shu Noah(Ice) and Yu(Hell). Now that's an interesting scene to imagine.

My theory is that Shu and Felaxe both joined because of Carol. They seem to really like following her orders. XD; Maybe they're nobles or part of the court and were sent by the emperor to serve Carol, who used to be the Warrior Queen. :3;

While I agree with your theory about Felaxe being sent by the emperor to serve Carol, I somehow doubt this applies to Shu for the reason that he is an assassin. The emperor could just publicly execute his enemies like what happened to the city lord. Besides that, the emperor has absolute power over the land and hiring an assassin would mean that you don't want the authorities to know. Lancelot is a former knight and I doubt that he world result in such dirty tactics since killing your opponents unarmed and in the dark is an unknightly act.

I also have a theory that the Warm-hearted and Cold-cruel factions are divided based on their belief/stance regarding the preservation of life and not according to their personalities. The Light faction oppose the killing of life even if they are criminals(corrupt officials, rapists, murderers etc.) while the Cold Faction believe in necessary killing if the situation calls for it .Why do I say this? Because Idane (Cloud) acts more cold based on his quotes than Felaxe who is brimming with passion to protect his fellow knights. Moon may be arrogant and Metal sneaky but Storm's womanizing ways, and Blaze's hotheadedness and vulgar language, are not positive traits either.

I believe mostly the same about how the two factions are divided. I'd say that it's largely based on their stance of what justice means. Are criminals able to repent and guided to the path of light, or do they not merit forgiveness? Carol and Silvester also demonstrated quite a telling conversation over how criminals should be dealt with in the beginning of FW v2. Since the Sun Knight and the Judgment Knight present two differing views on justice, it follows that the rest of the faction probably holds the same views.

I agree wholeheartedly that it's not like all of the members of the "good, warm-hearted" faction possess positive traits. Unless we can explain womanizing and brashness some other way, haha, like... womanizing being... good social skills? And brashness... Being very open? Haha, now I feel like I'm really stretching it. =P

I don't think it was veer an issue about Warm being good and Cold being bad, as evidenced by the fact that people trust Judgment to be fair and they trust and why nobody ever suspects Ice or Moon of doing wrong.

Instead, I think it is a question of personality. All of the warm hearted faction are very emotional individuals.
Sun is a perfect gentleman who loves the god of light with all his heart and expresses kindness towards everyone.
Blaze is a loud passionate fellow who acts without thinking.
Earth is a shy but kind individual who tries to be helpful towards everyone.
Storm is a rebellious flirt whose life revolves around women and fighting authority.
Leaf is a really really nice guy who is really really nice.
Cloud is a carefree fellow who drifts around and reads books, preferring to do his own thing.

On the other side, we have the cold hearted faction who are generally reserved emotionally or are more indrawn.
Judgment is a cold fellow who cares only about justice and suspects everyone of being guilty.
Ice shows virtually no emotion and rarely ever speaks and never ever smiles.
Moon cares only about beauty and narcissistic vanity with no attention for anyone else.
Metal is an acidic individual who has nothing but cold words and negativity to spout from his mouth
Stone is a stubborn taciturn fellow who does things his way and cannot be convinced to change his mind.
Hell is a virtual shadow who seemingly has no personality and is only interested in serving the sun knight.

So if warm hearted are emotional then cold hearted are suppressed.
