Went to watch ParaNorman with
gem2niki. So many kids ran out of the theater crying! (Has this happened with anyone else's viewing?) First, the book retrieval scene caused a kid to burst into tears, so the adult quickly left with the kid, and another kid ran after them crying. Then it happened again with a later scene... I thought that all the kids would exit the theaters crying by the end of the movie. :'D
I thought this movie should at least be rated PG-13 with all the horror, but nope, it's PG.
I mean, the uncle actually dies on screen. It's kind of made light of, but the movie touches on quite a few serious topics. Death. Bullying. Just to start the list! (It was no wonder the kids burst into tears during the book retrieval scene)
I didn't actually know what ParaNorman was about. Brains kind of squick me. (Norman, why are you so interested in zombies?) So I was quite surprised when it turned out that grandma's a ghost and that Norman's the only one who can see her because he's always been able to see ghosts. Made me think of Natsume Yuujinchou a bit with how no one believes him. (But seriously, Norman, your alarm clock, your slippers... zombies everywhere...)
In the end, the talking with ghosts part didn't seem all that big of a deal when half the movie featured zombies. I so wanted them to just stop and listen to the zombies talk. They're trying to tell you stuff! (The zombies were kind of cute actually). I was surprised the teacher wasn't mistaken for a zombie? I thought she would be since she had her green facial mask on.
I liked the climax. It moved me. =P Norman's family was also conveniently detained by the trees so Norman could face the last challenge by himself. When "I don't want to go to sleep. And you can't make me" was whispered into his ear by Aggie, that chilled me!
Anyway, now I feel like writing some zombie fic. Maybe more of Dead in the Knight. XD
