Started reading Kurogane from Weekly Shounen Jump. 19 chapters out so far!

I read somewhere that Kurogane is reminiscent of Hikaru no Go, which made me curious. I took a look myself, and it does share a lot of similarities. Kurogane Hiroto has never touched kendo before (and actually has a very weak body that makes him terrible at sports) but he meets Toujou Sayuri, a ghost who wishes to pass down the Sakura style that has been forgotten by history. She chooses him as his disciple when he manages to parry her strike thanks to his extremely good eye sight. In the very second chapter, Hiroto bumps into Hazakura Shidou, someone known for his kendo back in middle school. They get into a match that spurs Hiroto into wanting to learn kendo. Shidou is impressed by Hiroto (and even bested - instant rivalry!) and later is completely surprised that Hiroto is a complete beginner.

Unlike Hikaru no Go, Sayuri can be seen by what seems to be everyone, and she even possesses a little puppet to follow Hiroto around. Secrecy doesn't seem like it'll be a big part of this series. (I wonder why people aren't more surprised by Sayuri.) I'm still waiting to see where the story will go from here! (Also, I hope there will be less cleavage and panty shots of Shiratori... so unnecessary for the series!)

So far, I'm quite fond of Shidou. He's really serious about kendo, and he's very...serious in other situations too in hilarious ways that completely baffle Hiroto. Like swinging at Hiroto to get a mosquito off of him. XD I hope their rivalry grows and that it becomes central to the story, though I wonder if it'll be more of a friendship thing and that Hiroto will be mostly challenging people from other schools.

This really does sound like Hikaru no Go! Will definitely give it a shot, thank you ♥

lol, another series in common. I rarely get into sports mangas, but when I read the summary where it mentions Sayuri, I couldn't help taking a look. (can't help it, I like ghost stories)

I like the fighting scenes a lot, and mostly read the manga to see what either Sayuri or Shidou(he kind of remind me of Roland) come up with. (and the dog-boy is fun too)

yeah, they're overdoing it a bit with the fan-service

nah, don't think they'll be fighting seriously for a big while... seems more a friendship thing to me... (plus, it seems it'll take some serious time for Hiroto to... well... become a Hero)

well.... sports/martial arts... I think, since it's about kendo...
... genders I read the most... I think mostly fantasy, supernatural, horror,... comedy?
yeah, I like reading of ghosts/monsters, my culture is rather big on spirit/witches/... stories (or maybe it's my grandma..., no, I'm pretty sure it's more cultural...)
haha, yeah, I've read it... but right now I can only remember chapter 1, and I'd pretty much forgotten about it...

His seriousness and one-track mind about kendo/his honor. yeah, I like his character/personality; cute indeed (and rather intimidating when fighting, lol). hehehe, that scene was fun; Sayuri is so cool. I think that thought did cross through my mind too, but well, Yodaka already has a style of his own(I guess)... and it wouldn't really do nice for the story

Heeh, the second page you posted is really cute. It seems interesting. c: Hm, without having read it, I kinda like the premise of this ghost being visible to everyone. It seems light-hearted? Ah, but when there's ghosts involved there's always this special kind of heartbreak for me somewhere.

I'm sure it would be interesting to go into her past more, but right now I really like the silliness. (Though I'm not very far into the story yet.) I can't believe how everyone can mistake a puppet for a little child, haha.

Yes! It's very cute which is may be not the impression a manga about swords fights wants to make. The fanservice continues to feel awkward to me though.

Also, Kurogane is the most moe. ;D
