Finished watching the whole series. Some parts made me feel very nostalgic! Took lots of screencaps and was going to pick one per episode, but er, that was hard, so I'm dividing this into several posts. XD; Perhaps I should've done these posts as I was watching.

Episode 1

For the longest time, I thought this guy in the opening was Ed! But he didn't seem like Ed at all, so I was VERY CONFUSED. Now the opening takes on a whole new light. XD; I was still missing the songs from the first anime, but these new opening songs grew on me after a while.

So this episode starts in the middle of action, with this State Alchemist going off and betraying the military. I already forgot his name, and still cannot place when exactly this happens with how out of sequence this is. I'm glad Ed reflects on this guy again later on, so it all ties in eventually.

A bunch of characters introduced all at once in this episode. D: I don't think that was handled very well. The way they were introduced didn't interest me at all.

Episode 2

Episode 2 went the expository way of introducing us to Ed and Al's past (and not the BAM, this happened! way with explanations in the far future). I think this episode took material from different chapters and merged them together? When Ed started screaming during the part where he lost his leg and also Al, I very much wanted to turn my speakers down all the way. ;___;

It broke my heart a little when Roy came and found them in this state.

Was interesting to see Riza and Winry interact here (even more interesting with the side story later on about how this encounter inspired both of them).

This episode also covered how Ed became the State Alchemist.

Episode 3

Short episode about Liore. Al fixes the radio, people mistake Al for the Fullmetal Alchemist, Ed talks about getting to close to the sun and burned, Cornello gets busted.

While I really wanted to like Rose, she was pretty much in and out of the scene. I didn't sympathize with her much in this version. (Even after all these years though, her hair still reminds me of Hikaru's from Hikaru no Go.)

Episode 3.5

I'm not sure where this goes? Was it a side chapter in the manga, or was it not aired on TV (which is why it has "OVA" status?) Anyway, Ed and Al continue looking for the Philosopher's Stone and hears about the Blind Alchemist who has supposedly done human transmutation before and succeeded (though it turns out the truth is not quite so). I'm curious if he ever finds out the truth.

...now I wonder why "Father" didn't use this guy as one of his human sacrifices.

Episode 4

Incoming!

I remember being horrified by Nina's situation when I watched the 2003 version, especially since they were all having such fun just moments before, and dammit, she's his daughter and that was their dog. So yeah, seeing Nina here made me go, "shoot, that's going to happen soon."

Episode 5

Scar comes and kills Nina and Tucker, Roy is useless, Riza shows off.

I laughed when Riza went and tripped Roy after he posed so dramatically (not like he can do anything in the rain).

Ed gives up and asks Scar to spare Al, which makes Al furious after everything blows over. It's the first time Al gets angry in this series. They're both so defenseless here. ):

Episode 6

Armstrong takes Ed to Resembool to fix his automail. Armstrong wasn't given much of an introduction, was he? Or if he had one (in that very packed first episode), I don't remember much of it. I wonder when Ed made his acquaintance. They seem to already know each other well.

On the way back, they meet Dr. Marcoh who doesn't want Ed to go looking for the Philosopher's Stone, but he ends up giving Ed a clue before he leaves. And then Dr. Marcoh gets a visit from Lust (I totally thought he was a goner and was sad since I'm quite fond of him).

Winry gets Ed's automail fixed (after much yelling and beating). Really, Ed and Al should visit sometimes when they're not hurt. But ehhhh, Winry, how could you have forgotten an entire screw??

Episode 7

I loved these two from the first series, so I was grinning with their appearance here. :DDDDD So yeah, Ed and Al still need escorts, so Maria Ross and Denny Brosh get assigned as their escorts. Their reactions are so fun. <3

Ed follows Marcoh's clue, but the library already got burned down. Luckily for them, Sheska used to work there and has all the books memorized. (Just wow~. She must have a super good memory)

More of why I like these two. XDD

Random phone call between Hughes and Roy, with Hughes gushing over his daughter and his wife. He gets chided for using the military line for something private, I believe. Anyway, he ends up hiring Sheska since she has all the books memorized.

This was also the episode where Ed discovers what exactly the Philosopher's Stone is made of. DDD;

Episode 8

Ed and Al escape from Maria and Denny's watch to investigate the lab that they think is used for researching/producing the Philosopher's Stone. Ed and Al separate since Al is too big to enter through the vent. Al ends up fighting Barry the Chopper, who's like him (but Barry freaks out when Al shows him he's also like him, hahaha, priceless).

Ed fights this other guy. Really love his expressions. His automail arm kind of breaks down.

Envy shows up in front of Ed for the first time! (this is where I started fangirling his voice HARD)

Maria and Denny help Al out. Lab goes kaboom. Envy carries Ed out, and we learn that they're trying to keep Ed alive for some reason.

Episode 9

This is where I gush over Maria Ross. XDDD

She apologizes and then slaps Ed for his reckless actions, thinking she'll get into a lot of trouble for doing that. But Ed's all like, "oh." (Denny did the same to Al and got a smarting hand for it, hahaha)

And then
Ed: You know, you don't have to address me so formally.

Immediately, they act differently. XDD

Ed gives Winry a call, thinking he'll get yelled at for destroying his automail again. His imagination amused me. Though I wish Winry would tell Ed about the missing nail instead of just pretending it never happened (after her initial bout of guilt). D:

Meanwhile, Al broods over Barry's words about whether or not he's real or if he's just something his brother made up. This part made me feel so sad.

Hughes invites Winry to stay at his house. Turns out it's his daughter's birthday. XD

Another scene that broke my heart. D': I'm glad Al voiced his frustrations though and didn't keep them bottled in forever and ever. His worries are valid! I get it that Ed was already feeling guilty and that Al's words would only make Ed's guilt worse (that part broke my heart too), but Al is always so considerate of everyone. This came mostly from not enough communication... I believe it made their bond stronger after their mini fallout.

Episode 10

This scene shows up a lot throughout the series, whether it's Roy remembering Hughes or Roy thinking about his wish to protect his subordinates and his ambition to take over as the new leader. This time, I think it was a prelude to Hughes' demise.

Pft, I think Ed's sitting down, but still..

King Bradley gives them a warning that they shouldn't trust everyone in the military... and then he escapes through the window, hahah.

evil!Maria I mean Envy. Hughes gets chased down and yeahhhh. (It's pretty amazing how much he discovered though, and how soon, because it takes everyone else almost the rest of the series to do what he did)

Roy: It's raining.

My reaction by this point was... eh?? Are we at this point already just ten episodes in?

More to come later. ;D

"For the longest time, I thought this guy in the opening was Ed!"
*grins* I knoooow~ I'd gotten past that point in the manga when I saw this so I squeed when I saw him. X3

I loooved some of the beginning and ending songs in this one. :3

"It broke my heart a little when Roy came and found them in this state."
dsflakjd Yeah. D:

"Even after all these years though, her hair still reminds me of Hikaru's from Hikaru no Go.)"
*laughs* I don't think I made that connect before! XDD

About ep 3.5, I'm fairly sure it wasn't a manga chapter.

"...now I wonder why "Father" didn't use this guy as one of his human sacrifices."
XD I guess this points to being a filler ep.

"Incoming!"
*laughs hard*

"So yeah, seeing Nina here made me go, "shoot, that's going to happen soon."
I was the same, going noooooo~ D: D: when I saw her.

"Scar comes and kills Nina and Tucker, Roy is useless, Riza shows off."
Ahahaha~! XDD

"(not like he can do anything in the rain)."
Weeeell, so long as he has dry flint... ;)

" Really, Ed and Al should visit sometimes when they're not hurt."
But they need to find the PS! XDD They're so focused they forget.

"But ehhhh, Winry, how could you have forgotten an entire screw??"
She'd been up the entire night, I think?

"(but Barry freaks out when Al shows him he's also like him, hahaha, priceless)."
Yes. XDD

"(this is where I started fangirling his voice HARD)"
Haha. I did like Envy's voice, and I hadn't watched the 2003 version in Japanese (or, at least, the eps with Envy in it) so I don't think I had anything to compare it to. :3

"Pft, I think Ed's sitting down, but still.."
Ahahaha~ I didn't even notice he was there and was confused for a few seconds, wondering why you were talking about Ed. (Are they all surprised that he's sitting down? That doesn't make any sense. He's injured, so sitting down is a good thing, right?) XDDD;

"(It's pretty amazing how much he discovered though, and how soon, because it takes everyone else almost the rest of the series to do what he did)"
Yeah, I know. XD It took everyone a huge amount of studying to figure it out.

*waits for the next bit* It'll be interesting when you get to the last, what, three episodes, since I haven't seen them yet. X3;;

I'm pretty sure none of the ovas are manga canon - they could be something else canon, but I don't remember reading those stories in the manga.

"(She can even ride the dog like a mount!)."
*snickers*

" Nina's demise is gaaahhhh, messed up. Seriously messed up."
D: Totally.

"It was raining a lot, so I doubt he could have done anything against Scar. That was a dangerous situation he was in!"
X3 Yep.

"They are very focused on their journey, though they also seem a bit less obsessed with the PS later on. (Or well, it seems to take a backseat to other matters?)"
I think after they found out how the PS was created, it wasn't...worth it? To do that to get their bodies back, and then everything started piling up anyway. XDD

"(I suppose one screw is a small oversight in comparison. Glad it didn't turn out too badly!)"
Yep! It might not have moved whatsoever! But then, they'd probably figure something was wrong if that'd happened, and it saved Ed's life. *thinks about it* Or would it have? It saved him from getting severely messed up by Envy?

"I guess if Hughes had been able to get his knowledge to people... the series would have been short."
*snort* Definitely.

X3 No - I've finished the manga, so I know what happens.

Denny and Maria are priceless together. I wish there was more of them!

The part where Mustang says "This is rain" always makes me T.T Because I love Hughes and I love Mustang and I wanted them to grow old together as best friends!!!
