I read through almost all of the Yuletide and Yuletide Madness fics I've been meaning to read. It took me a long time, and I had so many tabs open. I also left as many comments as I could even though I was far from profound in all of them. The series near the end of the alphabet got the short end because my comments got shorter and shorter, and I ended up not checking out the fandoms I was less familiar with or fics with characters I cared less about (but I did for the beginning of the alphabet). I might return to them later, but for now, I'm done. ^__^
I am fairly sure I ran into a number of
darkicedragon's fics with the fandoms I did end up reading, haha, but I was clued in because of the titles and the summary before the actual fic confirmed my guess. But who knows, maybe I'm completely off the mark. XD; Anyway...
5 fics I enjoyed a lot (outside of my gifts) (why does this sound like the title of a fic? People have been titling their fics like this way too much *g*) I realize I've never recced any fic from Yuletide outside of squeeing over my gifts each year... so, have some recs.
The Closest Place to Forever (Cat Street, Nako)
This gives Nako wonderful closure as well as a glimpse into everyone's lives and how they're settling into it now that they're all older.
Cake (Honey and Clover, Ayumi/Nomiya)
They're a pair I actually adore a whole lot (I don't adore too many couples), and this fic does it perfectly. The ending really touched me.
Sit. Stay. Beg (Minamishineyo|You're Beautiful)
This is cuteness, really, with enough humor and adorableness to make me smile all night.
Never Lag Behind (Natsume Yuujinchou)
This could be a chapter out of the manga! I really loved how things unfolded here.
She Says It's Not a Love Song (But it Totally Is) (Yu Yu Hakusho, Yukina)
Yukina is awesome in this, and everyone else is written in a way that makes me wish this fic were even longer (but it's a perfect length, with self discovery, realizations, and a whole lot more).
Yuletide aside, I started reading +C: Sword and Cornett, and I like it a lot (with the conspiracies and princes and people saving and crossdressing and loyalty). But now that I've read through everything that's available so quickly, I'll need to wait. *grumbles* Still, this is now also on my to-buy list. :) I've also been reading T.R.A.P. (that I bought last last week) and finished volume 1 so far, and yup, the main character really does have amnesia, and he's probably psychic. *g* I look forward to seeing what kind of soccer will result from this.

Eeee! Amnesia and maybe!psychic! *goes off to find* O___o That seems like a lot of views, just for three chapters. Wow.

Date: 2010-12-29 08:27 am (UTC)Well, you didn't have to talk about it for me to have noticed it already. XD; Though I'm sure a lot of people do the summary thing (actually, my summaries this time around are somewhat similar. I either wrote the summary and then actually used it in the fic, or I plucked the lines out from the fic and used it as the summary *g* And they might even be the first sentence. The summaries really guided my fics a lot). The titles... I've just been noticing that you have a lot of one word titles, like Emulate, or Changes. Even if they're longer than one word, they're still short and to the point. (Entirely unlike, say, that title of the Yu Yu Hakusho fic above. I don't think you've ever had titles that long!) So combined with the title and the summary, I was thinking, hmmm, waaaait, this seems familiar. I checked some fics out before others in the same fandom because of that. *g* But... what do I know? XD;
Oho, my recs worked. XD
T.R.A.P. is still a very new series. I wonder what's going to happen now. |D Still, amnesia + psychic stuff + soccer is a very strange mix. XD

Date: 2010-12-29 08:52 am (UTC)XD Maybe I should make an 'innocent' icon. Toothless would do, but when I tried to screencap him, I found out his head's too big in a whole lotta scenes so when I downsized, it got blurry. :(
...Wow. That's an amazing deduction. *is in awe*
I'm finding doing summaries a lot easier now, now that I'm taking lines from the fic instead. Though, that didn't happen with Preparation, but the summary came first and I was not changing that! XDD
*looks at my fic list* Yeeeah, the most I've been using for my titles semi-recently is three words, and that was last year/near the start of the year. XDD Well, okay, there's Step by Little Step, but that's a looong one. Maybe most of my titles reflect partially on how long the fic is? XDD
Ooooh, I really don't think I'd be able to write such a long title! XD
Eeeeeee! I am grinning so much because of this paragraph. Seriously. :DD
Yeeeep. I adored the YYH one.
Eeeeee!

Date: 2010-12-29 09:34 am (UTC)I have icons with wandering and blinking eyes, but they look more clueless or nervous than innocent. XD Toothless would be so cute! *flails* But aw, he got too blurry?
Your titles do have a trend. *g* I wonder if mine do too? Some of my fics are for theme challenges though, so for those I just grab the title from the themes. I guess they're not very indicative of my own naming sense, and I don't think I have enough different fics for there to be trends (hm, though I do seem to name a lot of my drabbles with one word titles). I definitely don't have any fancy titles with parentheses and lyrics like some writers. XD;
The summary for Preparation is so funny. XD
I've seen titles with 5 things so-and-so did a lot, but this is the first time I've come across a lot of titles with parentheses. Is this new, or have I not been reading enough fic? XD My gift fic I received for Mekakushi no Kuni was named music is no match for happiness (and grandness none for music). It's so lyrical! *flails* Definitely not something I'd have managed to come up with to name my fics.
That YYH fic makes me want to read more YYH fics. *flails*

Date: 2010-12-31 10:36 am (UTC)I've seen long titles recently, but I don't think I've seen paranthesis in them before either.
XD It's been so long since I've read yhh fics! So long that it took me a while before I placed who some of the characters were!

Date: 2011-01-01 11:29 am (UTC)I still read YYH fic occasionally. Kitkatsune was totally inspired by Kurama's fox form. XD; I was tempted to request YYH fic for Yuletide, but YYH already has a lot of fic written for it while the series I ended up requesting has close to none. XD;; But I'm still craving YYH fic...

Date: 2011-01-01 06:41 am (UTC)I also wanted to write something with your other prompts, but I only read the first series of Toukaido Hisame and haven't started the other two. I'm was so tempted to read through Toukaido Hisame the night before the deadline. XDD I really want to start the other two too!
Er anyway, I'm so glad you enjoyed the fic! :)

Date: 2011-01-01 07:09 am (UTC)*laughs* Yeah, when I saw my prompts turn up on the pinch hitter list for the second time I just had to laugh. Well, that and desperately hope the list hadn't run out of people who could write something from my claim list! As a result, I really, really wasn't expecting much and was rather flabbergasted that you managed to pull something together so quickly!
And on a similar note, thank YOU for requesting fandom as well (and for sharing a similar brain when it comes to this series!), I actually started a treat for you based on your letter but didn't manage to finish it before the deadline, but it should hopefully be up in a couple of days as a NYR treat =).
I really recommend reading on with Toukaido Hisame, although I am a ridiculously bias fangirl who has a habit of trying to corrupt random people into picking up the series. It's just one of those series (a lot like Yoroshiku Master) that I just adore.

Date: 2011-01-01 07:45 am (UTC)I don't think the pinch hit list has ever run out of people who could write something, but it's always something I'm afraid of too!
Ooo, a treat. :) I'd love to see it when you finish. I've always liked Yoroshiku Master (because it's by Tsukuba Sakura), but when Rihito came into the picture... it made me like the series a whole lot more. ^__^ I'm really happy to be able to flail about this series with someone!
I will have to pick it up someday. I've been wanting to, since Bliss scanlates it. :)
