Heh, so after two years, I decided to pick this up where I left off! In 2008, I decided to write a Bokurano drabble every day for the month of August, but I only got up to August 15th when I stopped. Now that it's August 16th once again (albeit 2 years later...) I'm picking up where I left off. ;) Now that the manga has ended, I have new material to work with. The rest of these will mostly all be manga canon. Some of the previous ones I wrote two years ago have been contradicted by canon already. I won't be able to crosspost this in [livejournal.com profile] 31_days since this is 2 years after the fact, haha.

Rereading Bokurano still makes me very emotional. I need to find something fluffy to read now.

Title: Those Left Behind: Evil is a good condition
Day/Theme: Aug 16 Evil is a good condition
Series: Bokurano
Character/Pairing: Maki's parents, Maki's little brother Kazuki
Rating: PG
Notes: for [livejournal.com profile] 31_days. This one takes place right after chapter 56. This one is for [livejournal.com profile] digi_dragon!

"For my brother's future, for my dad and mom, I can be a terrible person."

-----

After the boy and the girl left, he stood silently next to his wife with Kazuki in his arms. His son had finally fallen into a peaceful sleep after his vigorous bout of crying. His wife, however, was still watching the dark streets the two, brave young children had taken.

"I hope they share what they're going through with their parents," she murmured. She didn't have to mention that she wished Maki had done that with them. He already knew because he wished the very same thing. Their daughter had to go through so much, yet he had been living in blissful ignorance the entire time. He didn't want his fake happiness or his meaningless toys. He wanted his family, his complete family of four. He wanted to be able to turn back time so he could be there for their precious daughter, to tell her that she didn't have to shoulder something like this alone. Weren't they family?

He felt the tears coming down again.

"Oh dear, you're making me cry again too," his wife whispered, her voice shaking. She sniffled but continued speaking. "Those children were so very strong, weren't they? I'm glad they came. Otherwise I'd have never known..." she trailed off. Speaking had become too difficult.

The boy and the girl, Ushiro and Machi, he reminded himself, had come to share anecdotes about Maki. Neither of them had known Maki for very long, but he was thankful she had friends like these. He had only ever heard her talk about her kind and graceful friend Komoda. He felt his heart constrict when he realized...that girl was gone just like Maki. Somewhere, another family was grieving.

His wife buried her face in her hands. She could no longer stop the tears. "Maki was so very strong too. She's not...a murderer."

As if he had heard his parents' muffled tears, Kazuki woke up, wailing. Kazuki's tears were loud and unrestrained, giving him an outlet he didn't know he needed. He wailed right alongside his son, the racket loud enough to wake up his neighbors. His wife joined in, the three of them huddled closely outside their home that their little girl would never ever set foot in again.

When their wails turned into sniffles and hiccups, he began rocking his little boy.

He managed a shaky smile. He had finally found his voice.

"Thanks, Kazuki. I needed that."

the end

Hm, I think I've lost my touch. How does the theme even come into play? Well, Maki is basically the first person to fight when everyone involved learned that they were fighting real humans just like them. She makes the conscious decision to kill and annihilate a whole world for her family. Whether she's being evil or good is relative. I'm not sure if Ushiro or Machi told Maki's family all the details, but I feel that Maki's parents would be the type to want to know everything. It might take some time, but they seem the type to live on because that's what their daughter would have wanted and that's what she fought for (kind of like what I wrote previously). I kind of wish I had written about a later scene when they've already gotten over most of their grief. I like this family when they're happy! I'll stop before this becomes longer than the fic itself. :')

Eeeeee! :D *flails* You started this again! Yey!

You're making me wanna read the manga again. ... But yeah, I'd want to read something light-hearted and funny afterwards. :(

And - just - awwwww, at the family. D:

I forgot that it's for August. XD;;

And, yeah... O___o I remember you posting these up. I must have started reading the manga after that point because of all the fic you'd written. (I think...?)

*snerk* There's, what, 16+ main characters, all with their own backstories and stuff, and then there's the switching of the chairs as well... Yeah. Really do want to go back and re-read this so I can attempt to get my facts straight. XD;;

:D Woo! Can't wait.

Hmm. Fairly sure I didn't read these when you first put them up. XDD And then look at the sucess of 1/2 Prince. XDD;;

If you take friends and family into account (not to mention classmates)... o___o;; Nearing the forties? Yikes.

XD I started reading it - and then started back to writing again. XD;; Now that I'm reading it... wow. Yeah, morbid humour. And Ushiro's mum's bike-chair! XDDD

I'm a little confused by a couple of them, but ah well (that could be because I'm remembering their backstories in bits and pieces).

.... Aaaah! The last picture!

*snerk* 1/2 Prince was/is the biggest success in levels of obsession. I've never lasted this long in a fandom before since Beyblade, and that was the first one I was ever in. At that point, it was harder to get access to new stuff (or, at least, I didn't know about them at that time) so it was a lot harder for me to move fandom.

But eeee, so happy that you introduced me to 1/2 Prince! :3

But oh so very Ushiro.

:3 I think I'll be rereading it soon too.

*goes to check* I'd been writing Beyblade fanfic for a year and six months, and I've been interested in 1/2 Prince for... a year and four months(I've also used the '1/2 prince' tag 142 times in that time. @___@). Wow, that's pretty long time to still be this interested in something for me. XD;;

XDD Yep! *counts it up* ... Over 26,000 words of 1/2 Prince fic. And this isn't including Late Nights. o____o;; Wonder what the number'll be by the end of the year.

Yaaaay!!! I love the Ano family, &hearts

I don't think you're losing your touch -- it's just a hard place to take them from, when they're in so much grief.

I couldn't help but see you and darkicedragon talking about the novel -- well, a friend of mine is a translator, and she has most of it on her livejournal. [livejournal.com profile] taka_waku

You need to friend it and wait for her to friend it back, but it's ten and a third chapters. :3 There's some confusion over the novel vs. this copy, it's an eBook you get from a certain website, and it's different from the hardcopy. We had to friendlock the journal because someone was insisting it was a hoax (which is honestly ridiculous, why would you create an entirely new story and say it's the official thing >_>). Anyway, if you want to friend it, then go ahead! Er, beware of comments, though, most of the people who comment are me and my friends, and we know nearly all the spoilers.

Oh, naturally! I'll make sure to tell her so you can start reading it ASAP. :) We all love to spread the Bokurano love.
