I received a lot of holiday cards this week! Sorry about not posting earlier about this...I had (and still have) nothing to say except that I received lots of cards. XD
blahchiharu,
athena8,
fantasy2004,
raikochan,
distansu, thank you all! Since I've only just started on my cards, I'll reply in those to your cards. :) Just wanted to let you all know that I received your cards and that mine are still...not done yet. (I only have one done...) I'm so not on top of things. ):
And now, some ramblings on FE9 that I passed last week.
On Ike. When I heard that Ike was going to be the one appearing in Smash Brothers Brawl, I wasn't too elated since I didn't know him then. But after playing FE9, I think Ike's pretty cool. He doesn't start off as a lord for one, which is quite refreshing, though he gets pulled into the position anyway. He's...a little TOO strong though, stat wise. A killer machine, especially with Aether and that super sword and I hear he's going to have all that in Brawl. How cool. I liked the length of the game, how we got a few chapters just about Ike's training and normal mercenary stuff before all the invasion and war stuff started. It's wonderful seeing background for the characters instead of being thrown into all the action at once.
On Soren. I loved mages since the first FE I played, and in this game it's no different. (When I played FE6, half of my team consisted of mages. It was crazy.) It was strange that I only ended up using two mages in this game (Soren for all of my anima and Rhys for light magic). Well, with all the other available characters, I guess it's not too strange. I'm glad I had Ike and Soren support each other, since their A support is MUCH LOVE. I would have missed a lot if I hadn't seen that conversation!! This half Laguz half Beorc business actually reminds me a little of Inuyasha. ^^ An outcast of both worlds. I'm super interested in how young Soren learned how to talk and how he first met Ike. *___* Why haven't more people tackled this plunny?? And and!! Is Soren part dragon laguz? Is that the theory going around? He ages more slowly than other people right? I want to see how that affects his life too...
I gave Soren Vantage and Miracle. Miracle was a waste since the enemies never ever landed a life threatening hit on him. Vantage + Adept made him able to kill every thing that came his way. ^^ His level was always way higher than all the others (well, except at the very beginning) so I tried to use him as little as possible. He and Ike (and Rhys!) were my only 3 characters that I got to 20/20. Even though I stopped using him to kill enemies, he gained lots of experience just from healing other people. Same for Rhys. Psychic is such a wonderful healing staff. Range + lots of EX! I never knew that before since I never had an abundance of those staffs like in this game. XD
On the three brothers. I looove their triangle attack even though I only got to use it twice. I keep forgetting to equip all of them with bows. My Rolf turned out pretty strong (and he criticals so much!!) it's awesome watching him. I always let him finish the triangle attack. I wish there were animation for it!! D: . Boyd's defense turned out horrible, as did Oscars. Meh. At least they had lots of HP. Poor Oscar and Boyd...I didn't get them A supports with anyone. Oscar and Ike's B support was pretty interesting. Oscar's a good cook! ♥ On the other hand, Marcia and Rolf's A support wasn't all that interesting since we didn't learn much about either of them. It wasn't very useful either since I can never get them to stand close with each other.
On Rhys. Oh, such a sickly healer. I had him at A support with Mia (their support conversations are so amusing, though they don't tell much) and B support with Rolf. I read through all the support conversations at gamefaqs after I beat the game...I love the ones he has with Titania. Gives us a glimpse into his past! Hah, he's a sickly healer, but he sure deals a lot of damage! His Magic was maxed. He dealt as much damage (or more!) than even Boyd.
From Greil's Mercenaries, these were the six I used. :3 I didn't use Titania, Gatrie, Shinon, or Mist except in the chapters where they were needed. I don't like using prepromoted units, and uh Mist...I already had Rhys, so. >_> I wasted a bunch of bonus exp on her to get her promoted so she could help Ike defeat the Black Knight in Chapter 27...it was quite a waste of bexp.
On Mia. Her support with Rhys is really cute. They're a good pair, a myrmidon and a healer. In the last level, I took the courtyard and blocked off each side with one character. Mia was one of the people blocking, and she was able to finish a lot of enemies off with Vague Katti. :3 Vantage is such an awesome skill.
On Marcia. I like her personality. She had a triangle attack with Elincia and Tanith, but I never had all three on the field before, so I never got to try that out. Boo.
On Reyson. I really liked his part in the storyline. He even got one of the few animated portions of the game! His singing with Leanne is really quite something. And his reanimating skill's really useful. :D
On Volke. Personally, I find Sothe to be more interesting. I only used Volke because he's able to promote. I found it funny that the reason he promoted was because "oh, now that you know my true identity, I can reveal to you that I'm actually an assassin!! XD;; So he was an assassin all along! Trying to pretend to be a thief!! XDD He really plays a major part in the story though. My Volke was pretty weak...I had to have him stay out of range most of the time. I really don't get how Shadow works since so many people still ended up targeting him. T_T
On Nephenee. She didn't end up all that great. I had a lot of lance users this time around. Her wrath skill is awesome, but to getting to that point where it activates is a little dangerous. Might've been better if I had given her Vantage. I had no idea she's a country girl though, as I didn't get any supports for her. ;_;
My team:
1. Oscar (Paladin) - Lv18 - 118 wins (what?? Oscar's first?? It's only because I send him out alone to kill off far away enemies...)
2. Ike (Lord) - Lv20 - 108 wins
3. Soren (Sage) - Lv20 - 107 wins (I'm surprised he's third...)
4. Boyd (Warrior) - Lv18 - 84 wins
5. Marcia (Falcon Knight) - Lv18 - 83 wins
Rolf (Sniper) - Lv18 - 79 wins
Mia (Swordmaster) - Lv19 - 77 wins
Nephenee (Halberdier) - Lv18 - 48 wins
Volke (Assassin) - Lv17 - 47 wins
Rhys (Bishop) - Lv20 - 34 wins (one of my only units who got to lvl 20! Even without killing many enemies! Who says healers can't gain lots of Exp?)
Janaff (bird tribe) - Lv8 - 4 wins (even though I used him in more than one map! He was mostly just Reyson's bodyguard.)
Reyson (bird tribe) - Lv17 - 0 wins
People I dropped:
Titania (Paladin) - Lv 5 - 30 wins
Gatrie (General) Lv1 - 19 wins
Shinon (Sniper) - Lv2 - 13 wins
other people I had to bring in the last level but I didn't really use:
Nasir (Dragon Tribe) - Lv18 - 0 wins
Elincia (Princess Crimea) - Lv5 - 1 win
Naesala (Raven) - Lv17 - 1 win
On the ending. I wasn't expecting an ending sequence. It was pretty cool. Elincia was cute. And Ike's a smooth talker. I wonder if they had FE10 planned already by the end of FE9, with the warning and all. In past FE games, the enemy always manages to call on whatever destructive power they meant to call on. Here though, Ashnard didn't get that far yet with the Dark God. Guess this means the efforts will be continued in FE10! It did feel like the ending was a little too easy.
I started playing FE10 right after...and it's HARD. I chose normal at first (I'm playing the Japanese version), but the game kept asking me if I wanted pointers, so I ended up thinking maybe their "normal" = "easy" mode? So then I started hard mode...I end up dying at least a few times in every chapter. T_T Since elevation matters now, that screws up my tactics a bit too. And characters can climb ledges!! 0_0;; I'm currently on the last chapter for Mikaya's chapters...and I can't pass it at all because I need to go up stairs and the enemies are always higher than me so have better accuracy while my evasion is crap. ;_;
The games a bit disjointed, but it's nice to see the aftermath of a war for once. Especially from the point of the country that lost! Sothe...Sothe grew up to be so COOL. He wasn't that cool in FE9!! Was his personality always like that?! Is this the same Sothe?? ^^; Tormod grew up into a pretty hot guy too. XDDD I'm glad they all returned as promoted units (well, Illyana didn't. ^^) since it makes sense that they'd be much stronger now. (Even though I didn't use them in FE9. XD;; ) I haven't gotten to see many other characters yet.
Fufufu. Is it possible that Mikaya's a Branded? The Prince seems to think she made a contract with the spirits and all, but Mikaya's sure not acting that way. The Prince is all wishy-washy. I wonder if he'll turn out to be a good guy or a bad guy...
