This entry = Eyeshield 21 episode screencaps and summaries (sort of), plus my random thoughts.

I've caught up with Saizen's releases of Eyeshield 21 (finally!) and while I watched, I decided to take screencaps just because I can. XD;;

I thought I wouldn't like Eyeshield 21. It's about American football after all...which I don't like very much. I don't like watching it and I never have, and during highschool, I always hated that it was the most anticipated sport. Why didn't people pay more attention to tennis and come support the tennis team?? (But that last part is just me being biased because I was on the tennis team =P)

But the first episode already changed my mind. <3

Heavy with SPOILERS. And long. Be warned. ;)

Basic plot: Sena is a weak little guy who gets bullied a lot and has to get saved by Mamori-neechan. When he enters high school, however, Hiruma sees him expertly weaving through the crowd at an astonishing speed to escape the bullies.  Sena's speed comes from constantly having the need to dodge and run away from the bullies. Hiruma exploits Sena's skill and even though Sena agrees to join the team as the secretary because of Kurita, Hiruma forces Sena onto the field as Eyeshield 21, wearing a green visor to hide his identity from other schools and from scouts.

Eyeshield 21! Ironic that it took Tenipuri's time slot, but oh well, since the anipuri was getting a bit too full of crack for me, though I was still a bit sad to see it go. I wished they stopped it after the Hyotei arc. And then released sporadic OVAs like Hunter x Hunter did.

I love series based on sports though. And even though amefu (sp?) doesn't interest me, the basic story and the characters in the series do. And I love seeing Sena run. :DD

The opening, when I saw it for the first time, was a bit disconcerting...a lot of flashing images, it felt like. All over the place. But it didn't feel like that anymore after I watched a few episodes. The opening sort of grew on me, and I like hearing it as bgm during the more dramatic scenes in the series. I especially like tne ending Blaze Away. <3  The images have everyone so cool looking, it made me laugh the first time around. The song is lovely. I tried to sing it at a karaoke bar with my friend once...but failed, of course. I don't pick up tunes well just by listening to them.

Some pics might not load. Sorry. I got lazy and just linked directly from Yahoo!Photos. Which...might not work. It seems that the links to the pics change after a day, so all those links to the pics are now wrong. ^^; So I've uploaded them to photobucket...and now they work! :3

Ouch.  Haha, had to save this moment in time.  Hiruma getting punched?? Dobu Roku Sensei is pissed at not seeing Musashi.  Who...seems to be someone who should have been on the team with them. Hirumi is assured that he'll be back.

Under his superb guidance, the team does training...wearing weird outfits.

At night, he challenges Sena to try to get past him...a seemingly drunk guy, yet Sena can't.  Sena has a weakpoint?!

Doku Roku compares the teams to horses.  Devil Bats is one of the horses stuck inside the stable while the other teams are outside in the field.  The horses all have faces that look like the teams. Haha.

Hiruma wants to undergo the Death March to prepare his team for the tournament. This is his last year.  Last chance. Doku Roku thinks them fools.

At the airport, Hiruma draws a line, telling them that whoever crosses the line means that they'll do the Death March. Sena hesitates, and everyone crosses the line.  Another person has discovered that Sena is Eyeshield 21. <3 Here's where all the dramatic flashbacks occur, with equally dramatic music.  Huh. I think Juumonji might be my favorite character.

Seeing everyone so courageous and unified, Sena crosses the line! And rips up his ticket back to Japan!

And since everyone (for some reason) states their name boldy after they cross the line, and then shouts their position, Sena does the same. <3

The result.  Shock.  And Sena gets a weird closeup.  Sena has sparkly eyes. *_* But of course, mostly everyone already knew.  Except Mamori. She still doesn't know.

The focus shifts to the rival teams. First we have the NASA Aliens, who aren't the Aliens anymore. They've changed their names to manuever around Hiruma's bet of not returning to America if they didn't win by 10 points.

And since the coach forbade Panther to stay with the Aliens, he's welcomed to rejoin the team now that they've changed their names. Dorks. XD;;

Shin is being cool and training on Mt. Fuji, weaving through the forest.

Until he breaks his GPS.  I laughed so hard at this because my mom just bought one.  Shin has no sense of direction. And then he starts battling a wild boar.

Panther goes to challenge him, but he's so nervous that he can't talk. Shin mistakes his actions and thinks he wants food. And yeah, that's the wild boar Shin just killed. 0_0;;

The three rivals! Panther challenges Shin and can't compete. He asks Shin on his opinions on Eyeshield21. Shin knows ES21's weakpoint but praises his speed.

Included for the sake of [profile] ranier. <3  Might this be the scene you were mentioning?  Mamori is the only one who notices Hiruma's limp and she goes off to bandage his knee~ The Death March has taken its toll on everyone (Sena has to kick a rock while running, the people on the line have to push the truck, Monta just has to run? I'm not sure. Hiruma runs with his luggage and shoots Monta. :3 Their goal is to get from Texas to Las Vegas by running)

Juumonji approaches Sena and tells him how he admires Sena for being Eyeshield 21. He wants to change like him.  Heh, a promise under the moonlight.

But soon after, he gets woken up by his friends who've decided to run away. Utter disappointment!

Juumonji tries to stop them. They don't listen and now they're separated for the first time in a long time.  He's hurt when someone calls the two "trash."

He's gone the next day. Sena believes that he went to bring his friends back (because of the promise under the moonlight~) so he decides to stay behind to wait.  Juumonji finds them (who didn't think that Juumonji would come after them) and they start punching each other (that's how guys express their feelings, huh?) but all ends well.

See? There's even a rainbow. Things have got to be all good now.

And Hiruma burns the negatives of the (embarrassing pics) of the three he blackmailed them with. Since he no longer needs them. Teehee.

These cards are kinda cute. <3  They're cards of various formations they need to memorize.

But the gist of this episode is that Sena gets lost and runs into Suzuna (is that her name? I forgot already.) again.

Yup, that roller-skating cheerleader girl who's been searching for her missing brother.

And they find him! Waiting to be tested for consideration of becoming a pro amefu player.  He turns out to be super flashy and super oblivious, and he has an annoying "a ha ha" (with rising intonation on the second ha) every time he makes an entrance. He angers some ugly guy, who plans on getting revenge during the test.

For some reason, Sena gets pulled into the test, and what else does he wear but uniform #21?

Episode 34: zipped screencaps / preview of zip

He meets someone who looks awfully familiar. But is it the same guy?  :3

The brother turns out to be a jack-of-all-trades, someone Devil Bats could use for their team to practice the formations.  But he's never played in a real game before. He adapts well though, and the ugly guy from before tries to crush him.

At this rate, the brother won't pass, so Sena jumps in to help him.  The girl sees him run...and yeah, Sena's identity is basically blown. Everyone knows already! Even the rivals! It's just Mamori in the dark now.

Heh, I thought this was a cool pic. <3  Sena's training with kicking the rock has made him faster~

But the brother doesn't qualify, so Sena invites him to join Devil Bats. They leave before the announcement of the people who passed ended. Sena doesn't hear that he's passed the exam. He's qualified to become a pro.  A new member to the team~

eh...because my webpages have stopped loading properly, I'll end this post here.  I'll continue with the rest later.  I'm currently downloading the raws for the next few episodes. <3  I wonder how much of it I can understand.  And [profile] ranier, how's the anime doing so far w/ following the manga? I still haven't read the manga~. Tempted to. But I like listening to the bgm and the voices~

edit: I don't know how to edit my lj-cut. T_T  It's supposed to say 30-34, and there's supposed to be only one cut.  This rich text thing is confusing me.
