fic_promptly, writing communities

I've been browsing Dreamwidth writing communities since LJ has been down quite a lot and I needed places to lurk, or else I'd have felt so stranded. Lots of awesome writing communities!

fic_promptly - prompt posts everyday, with lots of people pitching in prompts. I really want to write something for this. There's one Noblesse prompt that I would love to write, but I can't seem to get started, so I guess I won't be able to do it. :3;; Am still turning it around in my mind. Meanwhile... *tosses prompts at people* I hope someone writes some prompts I tossed in. I am kind of stirring up plunnies myself with these, haha.

hard_mode (video game big bang) is something I'd love to do... since 10k sounds doable for a Big Bang. XD; (10k is like... a very long oneshot!) I currently have no ideas for video game fics though, so... *mulls on this one* If I somehow write a video game fic over 10k before June, I'd join this. Unlikely that it'll happen though, since my writing commitments are now all over the place. (I'm still wondering if I can finish my NaNo by June and print it... maybe if I go back and edit/expand the first section and only print that section as a stand alone...)

no_true_pair looks so fun, but the current round has already started. I think I'll keep on eye on this community for the next round that's run this way. :3

As for my writing commitments... currently, I still have 31days_exchange to finish (I asked for an extension! Still, I better finish within this month...) and 30_kisses with Namiki/Kaichou (only 9 parts left out of 30, but my inspiration seems to have completely died. I already plotted out the rest last August, er, more than half a year ago. An earthquake was a major part of the plot, but now I feel it's more of a plot device than anything... I don't think I can write it in a meaningful way). I also want to work on my NaNo more and print it for myself, but eh, June deadline? That's just around the corner!

With so much I want to write... I think I'll end up writing nothing. :'D

Ahaha, of course, right? I was browsing and then went, ooh, look, someone requested Noblesse! And then I started tossing in some prompts myself to populate the place more with fandoms I'd like to see. XD;

I think maybe I should just edit the first part of Veline and expand on it. Leave Part 2 for next time. XDD;;

I've been turning this over in my head and wondering what I can do to make Part 1 be able to stand on its own... but ahh, it is still very plot-less. Part 1 is pretty much a character introduction. ):

The ending is quite a cliffhanger, like, literally? Since he gets thrown off the cliff, haha. XD;

Well, since Part 1 is an introduction to some characters, that means you don't have to do as much introducing in Part 2 since we know Rykatu already. :3

True, true. XD; I still can't decide what to do... I don't want to rewrite the whole thing, but as things are, it's a bit hard to continue. Hm, there's a section in Part 1 that might work with some expanding to make Part 1 be able to stand more on its own as a... mystery? XD;

I already wrote part of the end section of Part 2, but getting there is quite problematic. XD;;

I love fic_promptly, I always see stuff I want to write but never do it. xD I hadn't seen no_true_pair before, but I'll definitely have to check it out.

I've seen a lot of stuff I'd love to write... but I haven't written anything yet. :'D I also checked out the LJ version, though it looks like most of the fandoms being prompted there aren't ones I know.

That's pretty much my whole life though, want to write something and then not doing it. xD But yeah, I love fic prompt comms even though I fail horribly at most of them.

I wish I were prone to spontaneous writing. XD;; I have a problem with starting. I just sit on ideas and never actually start. =/

Fic prompt communities are amazing for inspiration. And deadlines help a lot when there are deadlines.

Saaaame, I'll plan something out for weeks and then never write anything down.

I do like prompts which are pretty much all I write these days because I've been so uncreative but deadlines just kill me. So bad with those. xD

I haven't been writing outside of fic communities and other people's prompts much. Mostly it's the deadlines that even get me writing anything at all. :'D I guess I need to feel pressured... even though it always stresses me out. XD;

Yeah, same same. I try to avoid things with deadlines though because then I feel bad not making them as opposed to feeling bad not writing the stuff that doesn't have deadlines pfft.

Fic exchanges I definitely make sure I can do. Would feel terrible disappointing a recipient! Communities with deadlines... er, I always barely manage to finish before the deadline. I don't think I've ever finished early before. Fic communities without deadlines are probably the best for my stress levels, but then I never actually write for them, ahahah... but yes, it is the same for me with deadlines and no deadlines types of communities. XD;;

Ha, I'd never want to risk it, so I don't do many fic exchanges/gift things. xD I wish there was a way to get the motivation of a deadline without actually having a deadline, lmao.

Here I thought NaNo would be the only online writing thing that could grab my attention.

It is! So many awesome writing communities out there. I wish I were capable of participating in more instead of just admiring them from afar.

Oh, have you done NaNo before? Or are you considering doing it this year? My NaNo from last year... while I did manage to write 50k, it is a completely plotless story, and it's still not complete, ahhhh. )':

I didn't even know about them. D: Now I do. This could be both good and bad.

I did NaNo this past year, but then the death of my computer meant the death of everything I had written. It was a real drag. I'm considering SuMo and NaNo this year.

I've been wondering if any players from Colors has a AO3 account. I would love to see "Colors Universe" listed as a fandom for fic! Would love to see it spread. XD;

I have never ever heard of AO3 (but I have, of course, not heard of many things)... and I agree that a situation like that would be super cool. I wonder if we could get a group together to make "Colors Universe" become an actual fandom there! :D I would certainly be entirely willing to write a few more things and make it happen.

Perhaps I should cross-post Tobi's Tale somewhere somehow? D: But I still feel uneasy if I did well with that story or not. Wagh.

AO3 hasn't caught on a lot yet, or if it has, people are mostly using it to archive fics instead of as their main go to for fics. At least that's my impression in the fandoms I read... AO3 has a very cool interface though, and there's also a section for "other media", which Colors Universe would go under nicely. :D I would love to see Colors Universe as an actual fandom somewhere else other than just in our little corner. It would be amazing! Especially since there are quite a lot of fics I wish more people than just us would be able to read since they're awesome.

Yesss, you should cross-post Tobi's Tale somewhere! It is quite amazing (and epic).

I'll definitely keep AO3 in mind. :) Perhaps advertise it a little or gather interest in the next open art/fic post that you put up? That could be a start.

Aside from my own LJ, I don't have any particular places in mind that I could post Tobi's Tale or any of my stories really. D: Do you think any of the places you mentioned (AO3 included) would be good places?

I fret easily about my work; as you may notice.

AO3 would be a good place to do it! I'm pretty sure they would recognize Colors Universe as a fandom... since they also have fandoms for a lot of other fan started things like webcomics, though I guess Colors Universe is a bit different... Deviantart might also be a good choice, and it's also good for posting art. Perhaps I could start a Colors group on deviantart that people could submit to? *muses* We'd probably get the same traffic (people from the TCG), but it'd be nice to have our work on a bigger archive site for people to stumble on!

I'm not sure exactly what Colors is, but in general, if a bunch of people are calling something a fandom, that's good enough for AO3. (Though if it's sufficiently obscure, tag wranglers may not know what to do with the fandom tags for it.)

Colors is an online trading card game, which normally doesn't have anything to do with fic, but the part that does have to do with fanwork is our Colors Universe part. We've been holding monthly contests to design characters. Now we have a set of eight characters that members of the community write and draw about. Here's where all our fanwork goes. Since the characters are all fan created, I wasn't too sure if this would count as a fandom or if it would be too much on the original work side, though various people contribute fic, and we also have monthly writing prompts... it would be very obscure, definitely.
