Tsubasa!
I last left off with Tsubasa after the Piffle arc with the end of the flying race, which, after catching up to the current chapters, was pretty much the last normal (relatively cheerful and non mind-breaking) arc before all the revelations. Man.
I started rereading Tsubasa after hearing that it's ending soon (and from thinking about how much Caius and Alcibiades from Shadow Magic reminded me of Fai and Kurogane). During my reread, I noticed that 1) They drink A LOT, 2) They seriously drink a lot. I should have kept track of all the times they were drinking or bringing sake into the conversation. I did notice it less after all the twists took over the story though. I was also more attached the some of the characters this time around.
Last time I stopped right before we got to see Kurogane's past. Man, if I had gotten to that point, I would have kept with the manga much more diligently. I guess I was getting a bit bored of the whole traveling to another world and only getting hints of the characters' pasts and the larger plot.
I always felt that the characters' meeting before their journey was very forced and rushed. Knowing Kurogane's past helped fill his part in (and what a tragic past that was, though I wish his father looked a bit more different than him). Also made me like Tomoyo hime more...I am biased against her since I don't like her counterpart in CCS.
The Tokyo arc was very morbid with the acid rain and the thought that only the people in those two buildings have survived. I've never read much of X or Tokyo Babylon, but I recognized that Kamui and Subaru were from there. (Kind of makes me want to read more of CLAMP's other works!) The "original" Syaoran threw me in for a loop. a;dja;l I always knew there were 2 Syaorans (one with 2 different colored eyes) because I've seen art around, but I never expected that the one we've been following was a clone. Just WTH?? And after the original appeared, C!Syaoran entirely left the story for a good majority of the chapters, which was what made me feel weirder about the whole situation than him being a clone. Just who the heck is the protagonist now when the protagonist gets replaced so easily???
When C!Syaoran dug out Fai's eye...my goodness. ): That scene was just...GAH. Especially when Kurogane saw and remembered how much Fai cared for Syaoran and Sakura.
...I've seen art of Vampire!Fai around, but I had no idea he actually got turned into a vampire. 0___0;;
Oh god, when vampire Fai woke up and called Kurogane by his actual name and not a nickname, the tension was so thick!!
I would have never guessed that Fai had a twin. I don't feel it suits him, but that is quite a tragic past...with imprisonment and curses and his twin dying in his place. So Fai's name is actually Yuui? Cute name. Ashura is cruel. Fai is stupid. Kurogane's a good friend. ;___;
I find it neat that the last three worlds they're traveling to are their own worlds, Celes, Japan, and then Clow. It really makes the series feel like things are coming to a close, and it's heartwarming that even though things have ended for Kurogane and Fai (the reason they wanted to travel different worlds is no more), but they're still continuing for their friends' sake...even when the "Syaoran" and "Sakura" who they traveled with aren't around anymore.
I can't believe that even Sakura is a clone. >__> I mean, she's the one we're following throughout the entire story, but then we find out she's a clone and she gets killed and then everyone's trying to save the other Sakura. It almost feels that it's ok for her to die because she's a clone...granted, Yuuko brings her back, but still!!
fdklaj;s And then both clones get reincarnated (IN THE PAST) and then give birth to Syaoran who the other Syaoran who fathered him was a clone of...this does not make sense, haha. Getting weirder and weirder. But, this whole going back in time and all that does clear up a few things that I thought were weird from the beginning, like why Clow Reed was Sakura's father instead of the other guy. There was foreshadowing throughout the story, like Syaoran's concern over rewriting the history of Shura.
The feather that Sakura left in Tokyo turned up in Clow because Clow is Tokyo's future. That was very cool and mind breaking. I was amused that so many people envision a world of sand as the future. Basara had a similar future painted for the world. Desert everywhere.
Haha, I've heard that Tsubasa has a lot of twists, but I didn't expect so many. I didn't like Mokona in MKR, but Mokona in this is so cute! I liked Fai a lot more during this read through, and I adored how Kurogane looked after him. I found that I cared about those two a lot more than Syaoran and Kurogane because man, two much clone stuff going on. The real Syaoran's not even the guy we've been following for half the series, and neither is Sakura, who turned out was frozen all this time.
Well, I'll be looking forward to the end. X3;;
Started reading xxxHolic after catching up with Tsubasa. I've grown to like Tsubasa's thick lines. The art in xxxHolic feels a lot simpler.
From the very first chapter, I couldn't help thinking what would happen if Watanuki met Natsume from Natsume Yuujinchou. Anyone know of any crossovers? XD;

There's entirely too many clones in this series, though. :x

I was very hyped up about Tsubasa when it first came out because I love crossovers. Reading Holic now! I didn't think Watanuki was this kind of character from his appearance. I thought he was one of those emo characters.
Agreed. x__x At the point where we see Syaoran's parents, I thought there were three of him around. Thankfully there wasn't, but the alternative was even more mind breaking. We didn't even see any alternative Syaorans from other worlds and we already had so many!

Ah yes and the clone things... Have you gotten to thapter where Fai meets with Ashura?
Nastume and xxxHolic cross over would be very interesting to see... Perhaps they would form an exorcist team... Watanuki would see the weird things... and Natsume would give them back their friendship name! LOL

Yeah, I have. Fai looked wild and lost in Celes. ):
Natsume and Watanuki can bond over their fate of seeing weird things. XDDD

Ah that chapter soooo hinty toooooooo lol.
lol I can totally see it... their fated meeting: Natsume goes into the shop in order to get his abilities to see monsters removed by the time witch... but in order to do it he must recompensate her with... Nyanko-sensei!!! GASP CAN NATSUME DO IT!??!?!?!?!?!?

NYANKO-SENSEI!!! Natsume wouldn't part with Nyanko-sensei. I'm sure he'd rather keep his powers (after a lot of brooding and reflecting of course, hehe). I'd love to see Natsume enter Yuuko's shop though. :3
Watanuki's so good at giving names...would be nice to see that tied with Natsume somehow. XDD These two series can be crossed so easily.

UGH I NEED A SEASON 3 OF NATSUME!!!! PLSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
They should do a collab CLAMP and natsum'e mangaka. It would be called... xxxYuujinchou ... LOL I can't help it... I have yaoi fangirl blood in me xD.

For awhile I even preferred not bothering with tsubasa at all, and just focused on xxxholic, since the whole spirited world seems more thrilling than magical adventure. I followed the tsubasa series expecting a lighthearted-plot story (apparently I didn't read that much into CCS's underlying motifs as a kid) and I forget that tragedy is a part of Clamp's forte.
The sudden announcement of an ending surprised me, since it's hard to believe that clamp can cover everything in a few chapters. I hope they do something to wrap up the vampire twins sidestory~ those two had became my joy since the acid tokyo arc <3 They have some personality differences from their original clamp work counterparts (I love their vampire side more) I did a review after watching the ova, but it's mostly screenshots and mindless fangirling XD;; However, if you ever chanced up the ova, you must watch it!

xxxHolic has a limited cast, which seems normal for a series since we only ever get to see certain characters as the reader, but when Watanuki actually thinks about how little he knows, it's eerie! After all the action in Tsubasa, xxxHolic was very calming. I wonder if either of these two series will get a relatively happy ending. Clamp's earlier works were all pretty tragic, which I wasn't expecting when I got into them (like...RG Veda and MKR).
If I can find the OVA, I plan to watch it soon. XD; I already miss Tsubasa now that I'm all caught up with the manga.
