Dragon's Bait
Very randomly read Dragon's Bait by Vivian Vande Velde because there's a transforming dragon involved. It is such a short book too, or maybe that's just me being used to epic fanfic that can be however long writers want them to be. I kept wanting more details. The ending made me go, what, that's it? XD; (And then I went to search for fanfic and went ooo, look there is fanfic. Lots of people must have wanted more, haha).
After reading this, I can safely conclude that I have a thing for transforming dragons. Not just dragons as dragons, but dragons that can take on human form. XD;; I think this fascination might have started with Breath of Fire, and now I want to replay those games and actually finish them. I've only ever finished Breath of Fire IV. Or, instead of replaying, I could go and find the manga versions... I know BoF IV at least has a manga. It has become very obvious to me that Rykatu, my OC that is part of this LJ handle of mine, is totally inspired by Ryu.
Selendrile in Dragon's Bait was described as cat-like at one point, yessss. I so loved comparing Rykatu and cats, so it amused me to see this view is more common than I thought, dragons being cat-like.
A quote I liked. :D
I guess I like Selendrile for how enigmatic he is, but he kind of stays that way throughout the whole book. He ended up being a very convenient ally but we really don't learn much about him at all, like his motivations... I guess the rest is up to my imagination. X3;;

In a very small voice, never meeting his eyes, terrified of the answer that she had so glibly dismissed earlier, she asked, "Why is it dragons ask for maidens?"
The dragon-youth released her, his hand shaking. Startled, she looked up and saw that he was silently laughing. "Dragons don't ask for maidens," he said. "Dragons are offered maidens."
Alys shook her head to show she didn't understand.
"Is a king likely to be a maiden? Or a village headman? It's the men who make the laws that decree that maidens be offered."
Alys thought of all the lovely old songs, the grieving kings, the valiant knights. "That's a lie," she whispered.
"Perhaps." She saw a glint in his eyes. "I do lie." - pg.33

I didn't manage to get through BoF I and II because I was playing it quite a while later (after newer games had already come out) and I just couldn't stand how slowly my character moved on the screen... I still want to replay them one day though. X3;; I think BoF II certainly affected my take on Rykatu the most...
:D
I even wrote a bad poem years and years ago comparing dragons and cats, hahahaWhat part of the Noblesse? :O *hasn't made the connection yet* XDDD;;;

originallyat some point a transforming dragon. Except he got stuck in the place between when he got pitched into Torpin, but he hadn't known/remembered that. And then he transformed into his full dragon form at the end of the novel for whatever reason. XDD; This was when Searching was still going to be from Golden Sun because Marland was going to be originally from Prox.)Yeeeeah. Playing FFVII after playing games on the PS3? It takes a while getting used to. XDD
"I even wrote a bad poem years and years ago comparing dragons and cats, hahaha"
Heeee!
"What part of the Noblesse?"
It's a little while back in chapter 108 where Frankenstein is telling M-21 some of the nobles' history. :3

Ahahaha. XD; I remember being wowed by FFVII graphics. Even now, I still play a lot of old games, though the graphics on my big screen make me cringe. XD PS2 graphics are very blocky and jaggedy usually... while SNES graphics just makes me feel silly for playing the games on the big screen. XD; I think they look perfectly fine on handhelds though. :3
That poem was some sort of... shape poem. With words written in the shape of a cat. XDD
Ah okay, now I can place the reference. With your clarification from below. XD

hisecondary school, and I think I was getting my first exam past papers at that time, so I must have been about...fifteen? So I was very impressed that he'd been published at eighteenLater found out that he was published from his parents' placeI liked reading it the first time because, omg! dragon! And then I lent it to a friend a year ago? two years ago? because we'd both heard by that point that it had really bad writing etc. and I couldn't remember any of it.
When my friend went through it... XD;; She found a lot of things weak, from how incompetent any of the characters are, to Eragon being able to beat someone who'd been fighting for several decades (and then that person declaring that he 'had no more to teach him'), you're informed the bad guy is Bad, but you're not actually told why and on and on. XDD;;
Yep! It would have been a very different Marland. XDD
FFX was amazing to me the first time I saw a fight scene at a friends house. The hair moved?! And we're not in a cut-scene? omg!
Eeeeee! Cute!
XDD;;;

I would probably have been enchanted by the dragon aspect. XD When the movie was in the works, I heard things about the writing (the movie didn't seem to do very well, so we never went to see it). *goes off to read about Eragon* Oh, a quote from the author about basing the dragon's thoughts and behavior on his pet cats. XDD I wonder if the writing changed or improved between the books. Might be interesting to see. :3
(I was playing Pokemon over the weekend and had that line said to me. "I have no more to teach you." XDDD Seems to be a line that teachers/masters often say! But it's like, nonsense! There's still so much they could teach!)
FFX. Hehehe, having the characters look that good even outside of a cut scene!! I was pretty impressed by that.
