Anime Expo

I'm back and all caught up with most emails, posts, comments, and TCG stuff. I might have overlooked some things...if I have, let me know. My inbox was so scary when I checked it yesterday. XD;

AX this year was relaxing for me, though it was probably stressful for others. I didn't have too many plans and only attended 1 concert and a few panels. I didn't nearly walk as much as I normally do since our hotel was so close (it was nice not having to use the shuttle) and I was sitting down half the time in the Artist Alley. :3 I also met with almost everyone I had plans to meet!

Super duper long post below only because I did it all in one go. Perhaps I should have divided these up. =/ 180 photos below!

Day 0 - Wednesday

gem2niki and I got to LA around 6 something, dragged our luggage up to the hotel room, and went to line up for registration but got turned around once the clock struck 8. That sucked. =/ We bought Pocky along the way from some guy who was selling them. Smart idea. Everyone was hungry.


We grabbed dinner (ugh, I ate so much greasy food during these few days!) and slept early in order to wake up super early to line up for registration once again the next day.

Day 1 - Thursday

Thursday, we woke up bright and early to the 1st ending of Hikaru no Go. XD; I haven't changed my alarm tune in years. gem2niki and I headed off to registration right away. I polished off my cereal, was STILL hungry, so I bought stuff from the very convenient food truck that was parked right next to the registration line.


Registration started an hour earlier than we were told, so we got in pretty quickly. Once we were inside, things went even more quickly. We managed to get our badges, sign in for Artist Alley, and pick up tickets for Megumi Nakajima and May'n's concert all before the time we usually wake up, haha. When we headed back to our hotel, neither T Mobile or Wells Fargo were even open yet.


We changed into our cosplay, which took far longer than it should. :'D gem2niki had a hard time doing her hair. Kay's hair is so high up! When we finally set out again, Artist Alley had already begun despite how early we had gotten everything else accomplished, but we needed to get gem2niki a new phone. We went to T Mobile. I liked their pink chairs.


Setting up the poles for our table in the Artist Alley took a bit to do, but after we had everything all set up, it was easier to put things up later on. The table next to us was actually the same people that were behind us at Fanime. Such a coincidence! An awesome young Franziska, young Phoenix, and young Edgeworth walked by our table, so we had to take a photo with them.


I really adored this Edgeworth. :D

I also spotted a Diego. :D The girl behind us in the Artist Alley was also a big fan of Ace Attorney, so she was asking a lot of Ace Attorney cosplayers for pics when they walked by her table too.


I had to leave to go back to the hotel room to grab my clearfile of Hihara that I planned to have Morita sign. I passed by this lovely duo in the hallway. I think I've seen pics of this Syaoran in yoshikochan's posts. :3


Near the entrance, there were two Fire Emblem cosplayers that I asked for photos. Here's Micaiah.

After I got my clearfile, I went to the Nokia Plaza to wait for Morita's event. RSP was still singing at this time. I liked their voices! Morita's event took forever to start. I started chatting with a guy next to me who was cosplaying a badly done mecha. XD; He said he got a lot of comments about his cosplay (and later, when Morita-san saw it at the signing, he chuckled at it too).


When the crowd that was there for RSP left, I saw a very cute Tegami Bachi group! :D


Morita Masakazu's event turned out to be a special Bleach event. He came out dressed in a shinigami outfit. He mentioned that he had a camera on him, so footage of this would be shown on TV in Japan on the channel that Bleach runs on. Haha! During the event, he voiced over a short part of Ichigo's lines (a scene against Ulqiorra), which I took a video of. He then had three pairs of people go up on stage to dub Rukia and Ichigo. I raised my hand but wasn't picked (a good thing. I'd have died of nervousness!). The Rukia cosplayer won the prize, a signed soundtrack from Morita. I thought the first Ichigo voice was pretty awesome too, but they only chose one winner. I thought they were going to choose the best pair. )': How sad to break them up! At the very end, Morita did his bankai voice as Ichigo. When he bowed down, he hit his head. I have this on video. XDDD Poor Morita!!

I rushed over with the guy I was chatting with to Morita's autograph session. I finally met tokki_chan there!!!!! My sempai! :D It was fun chatting the time away. :D


Tokki-sempai helped take this pic. :D I handed Morita my clearfile of Hihara. He was surprised that people in America knew Kiniro no Corda. He wondered if the games were released in America. I said no, and that I played it in Japanese. XD; He went, "Sugoi." Haha. My Japanese was pretty fail. I didn't end up saying much.


I returned back to the Artist Alley after being away for hours. There I saw a cute Maya and Shih-na! :D It's too bad I took this pic while Maya was in mid blink. D:

Oh hey, look who's that? XD; It's been forever since I'd seen revenus at a con! (Your wigs all look so fantastic and natural. How do you do it???)


Once gem2niki came back, I left the table and started going about the Exhibition Hall to buy stuff. I stopped this Eureka seveN group for a pic. Too bad none of them looked too happy in this. ):


I also ran into a frilly Tadase. :D I was pretty sure I had seen her with navigator Amu earlier, but it was too bad she wasn't around.

I only managed to browse two aisles of the Exhibition Hall on the first day, but I found some fishbone earcuffs, so I was satisfied. XDDD


I went out to dinner with jen_kat, yoshikochan, gem2niki, and Lisa (whose LJ name I don't know). It was a good thing I went with them, because I sure didn't know my way around! I couldn't finish my fried rice despite being super hungry. :'D But look, the plate is in a triangle shape! I thought that was cute.

Day 2 - Friday


Here I continue to bombard everyone with pics of food. =P This omelette was a bit too much for me. :'D Too cheesy! The three of us, me, Jenkat, and g2n, sat at the counter in the restaurant (but all the others at the counter were guys).


It was a good thing we went early, because after we left, we saw a huge line outside the store.


The restaurant next door had this cute sign.


gem2niki and I left for the Artist Alley after touching up on our cosplay. Once we were at the convention center, I snapped a photo of this funny Bleach cosplayer.


In the hallway, we met this pretty Fai cosplayer. Her eyes were so blue!


gem2niki told me to take a pic of the Soul cosplayer, so I did. XD


I dig that blueness!


I still hadn't left after taking a pic of Soul (because I wanted a pic of the masked kid from Zelda). While I was waiting, a Brawl group passed by.

In the Exhibition Hall, there was a very cute Harvest Moon booth that sold Harvest Moon plushies and games. (I bought an HM game later on because I wanted the horse plushie that came with it, haha. Some HM cosplayers got the plushies for free after posing in front of the booth).

I continued shopping from where I left off. I spotted Kaitou Kid. Kaitou Kid! With Conan! I saw them the night before while returning from dinner, but I thought it would have been pretty creepy to stop them for a photo in the middle of the street away from the convention. XD; Their pose was so adorable.


More Eureka seveN cosplayers! XD Eureka was actually the Maya cosplayer from the day before!! I wonder if this means one of the others was Shih-na? :O


They were very pretty. So many people stopped them for pictures.


I also met...Jacques Portsman (from Ace Attorney Investigations)!! XDDD She had an awesome pose. Too bad she didn't go to the gathering on Sunday (or if she did, she was a different character then).

At around 1, gem2niki and I packed up everything from our table, left it in the hotel room, and ran to the Nokia Center for Megumi Nakajima and May'n's concert. Thankfully, when we got there, the concert still hadn't started yet. The concert was very, very awesome. May'n started it with "Welcome to my Fanclub Night." She was very pretty on stage and was wearing all black. Everyone was hyped up, standing, and waving their glow sticks about. I could barely see anything because everyone was standing up. That part made it less enjoyable for me. =/ I think we only sat down during Diamond Crevasse (or maybe another song) because she asked us to relax. XD; After she sang a bunch of songs, Megumi Nakajima came up on stage. They sang together for a little before May'n left and it was Megumi Nakajima's turn. Megumi Nakajima was wearing a very strange and very colorful dress. XDD; It was so poofy! Her songs were much mellower, so everyone sat down for them. XD; I loved this rendition of Ninji-n Loves You Yeah. It was so cute! She changed the lines in the end and sang about how it was a long way from Japan (or was it a long way to America? gosh my memory's bad!). Some time later, she asked us why there was a piano behind her. She continued singing as if she hadn't asked that question at all, and then some time later, WHOA, Yoko Kanno came on stage!!! Yoko Kanno played the piano while Megumi Nakajima sang. Aimo was especially touching. Yoko Kanno also did bird noises. XD; At the very end, May'n came on to sing together with Megumi Nakajima. Everyone cheered. The very last song was the opening song to Macross Frontier, Triangular. :D I loved it.


gem2niki returned to the Artist Alley after that. I parted with her to go to Horie Yui's panel. On the way, I saw a lot of Macross Frontier cosplayers (there were a lot of Rankas and Sheryls around because of the concert) but I didn't manage to take any pics. I also saw some...dancing Vocaloid cosplayers. (They were still at this two hours later).


The line for Horie's panel was crazy. Crazy, crazy, crazy. But we all fit into the room.


While waiting in line, I suddenly heard Kefka's music drifting to my ears. It was like, what???? XDD And then, Kefka came into view with Terra! This Kefka was so cool. Every time someone asked for a photo, he did the Kefka laugh. It was such a crazy laugh. He was very in character.

Horie's panel was somewhat disappointing. It started late since it took so long to seat everyone. No photos were allowed, and when we finally started, they showed one epsisode of Toradora (it was very cute) but that took half the time. When Horie finally came out, they asked her around 6 questions or so, and the panel was over. Even Horie was a bit surprised that it was over so quickly, or so I thought. They asked her stuff like who she thought she was most like (One of her answers was Naru Narusegawa since she sometimes has difficulty expressing herself), her advice for people who want to be voice actors (stay healthy), and so forth. She was also asked to sing a part of her favorite character song. I don't think I recognize the song she sang, but she sung the same two words over and over again. XD;; She asked us what songs we liked. Fans started shouting song names at her, including Sakura Saku.

I went to her autograph session after that with a pencil board of Love Hina that I bought in the Exhibition Room. Everyone was dangerously pounding up the stairs. 0___0;; The line was even crazier. -____-;; I shouldn't have bothered. I ran into the guy I met from the Morita event again, so I chatted with him for 50 minutes. Things looked pretty bleak since we hadn't moved an inch even after 45 minutes. After the line finally moved, people cheered, but then we found out they were just kicking us out because Horie had to leave for something else. ^^;; That was a bit depressing.

I sort of wanted to go to Mell's concert, but gem2niki chose dinner instead, which was the healthier choice. We went to a very packed IHOP. I had a very delicious salad...which I don't have a pic of. For once it was something slightly healthier...

Day 3 - Saturday


We grabbed Subway for breakfast, and I continued shopping because I still hadn't finished going around the Exhibition Hall. These Maple Story keychains were so cute! I bought the spiky mushroom and the orange mushroom. *___* I also saw a Roppongi keychain from Miracle Train, but it was way too expensive or else I would have bought it. ):


It's Ran Shuuei and Ri Kouyuu from Saiunkoku! I bought keychains of them the day before, haha.


More Eureka seveN cosplayers! You know, I think people who haven't watched the series probably wouldn't have recognized them since they look so casual. XD


While trying to line up for the hopeless Horie signature once again, guess who I ran into again? XD;


More Phoenix Wright cosplayers~. Vera had a psyche lock. :3

gem2niki and I hurriedly packed up her prints to go to Konishi's panel before 3. On our way back, we met another Kay!

Konishi's panel was very cool. He did Kamina, America, and Canada's voice during the panel. He asked us to ask him, "Dare?" Once we did that, he replied very softly and faintly, "Canada desu yo." Everyone screamed at that. XDDD It was cute! Some guy used flash and got kicked out of the panel (ouch). The fans asked a ton of questions. I don't remember much of them anymore, but Konishi's answers were amusing. I think...he said when he was young, he wanted to be Ultraman when he grew up? But when he realized he couldn't be Ultraman, he wanted to be an adult. He became a seiyuu because he didn't want a normal job, so his friend recommended him to do this.

On our way back to the Artist Alley, there was an Elizabeth! I'm holding Elizabeth's hand here. XD;


More Gintama.


I loved this Shizuo's sign. :D


I STILL hadn't finished shopping, so off I went where I saw this cool Toothless cosplayer. :D


When I was coming back to the table, there were some Oofuri cosplayers about. :3

I think I met lilikoifish sometime this day (or was it another day?) but I was somewhat dazed even after she introduced herself as Fishy (I thought of revenus at first and then thought, wait, that's not right!). Sorry again for being so dazed! Wish we could've talked longer!


We cleaned up pretty soon after that to head back to our hotel. Near the entrance/exit, there were some Ace Attorney cosplayers. One of them was the Edgeworth I had seen earlier. This Phoenix has the best expression. XD; And man, look at that light shining on Edgeworth! It's like his own spotlight.


While gem2niki fixed her hair back in the hotel room, I caught the end of AX Idol. I missed most of it, so I didn't know what was going on at all. But it looks like they were mostly using Vampire Knight clips. They're so promoting that show.


After that, gem2niki and I went around taking pictures of ourselves. XD; jen_kat helped with the first few.

So many people took photos with this guy. There was even a chair there for us to sit in.

While I was posing, a helpful attendee offered to take pics for us. Some people recognized us and took pics. Another Ema even came and joined in!


I wish we were able to catch more of the sunlight. :3


But the setting sun does look nice too.

We headed out to dinner at Dennys very, very late. We skipped Masquerade to take photos. Who knew it'd take so long? I ordered a float that made me so stuffed that I couldn't finish my sandwich. ):

Day 4 - Sunday


Before I knew it, the last day had rolled about. Decided to get breakfast at the convention center...but Starbucks was so expensive. I only got something to drink.


My pics of gem2niki at her table made me laugh because her face was covered in all of them.


I went around the Exhibition Hall one last time to pick up stuff for my family. This was so cute.




I stayed at the table the rest of the time to let gem2niki have a chance to buy stuff. I took pics of people in the meantime. Someone was wishing America happy birthday.


I asked them what they were cosplaying, but now I've forgotten already after they told me. D:

When I came back from the gathering, I saw a Sokka!


I also got to hold jen_kat's really cool keyblade that she commissioned! I was holding it wrong though. :'D

And that was it from the Phoenix Wright gathering! I left after that since it looked like most people had left already.

Nice photos! Some awesome cosplayers. I live in Australia and love Kiniro no Corda. I haven't played the games, as much as I would love too, as my Japanese isn't great yet. You had a great costume. Big Ace Attorney group, ne?

I've only played the first game, and so far, I've only finished Hihara's path once. ): Morita-san asked if I played the third game yet, but I haven't even bought it yet. Still need to play the second game! They're fun, but so much more complicated compared to Gakuensai no Oujisama, but I love Kiniro no Corda lots, so I will definitely play the game one day. :3

There were lots of Ace Attorney cosplayers about, or well, it might seem that way because I took pictures of almost all of the ones I ran into. XD;

I have one more pic of nice looking food here! It didn't fit into this post, but I stayed over at jen_kat's house on the last day, and her mom made these yummy noodles! Yum!

It was pretty funny that I actually captured that on head-hitting moment on video. XD; Poor Morita-san! I don't know what I was thinking taking the video...vertically though. Haha, it wasn't a photo or anything!

The blurred person is pretty amazing. Walking at the speed of light, whoot!

That Welcome Anime sign was really cute. XD

I know! Fai looked even more impressive in person. I would have stared more if I had time.

I also saw another lone Kaitou Kid (I'm so happy that there were multiple Kids this year!) but I didn't ask him for a pic. I so should have.

I wonder if those Eureka seveN outfits of those three guys were as comfortable as they looked. :3

I think it was! Her fingers were really cool. But...probably not very convenient for shopping.

The instant noodles were still in their packaging (Oh gosh, I almost typed instant needles). XDD I wonder if anyone ate them at home after they picked them up.

The guy was twitching in that crime scene photo, and someone said, "Dead bodies don't twitch!" Hahaha.

Yup. AX went by pretty quickly. I usually go with a big group made up of gem2niki, her sister(s), plus their friends. This time it was just the two of us, so planning things (transportation, hotel, etc) was harder! But in the end, I thought it was a nice experience. I possibly bought more stuff than I should have because I only had one chance to go through all of the stands and the Artist Alley. Otherwise, I'd have hemmed and hawed longer while making a decision on whether or not to buy something. This time, if I saw something and liked it, I bought it. XD;

It looks like a lot of fun, and a lot of good guests were invited. I wish I was there to catch Megumi and May'n's concert, it sounds spectacular.

You took sooo many photos (detailing everything,) and it's pleasant to read them in a entry-and-text format. All the cosplays look so top-notched. I was totally blown away from that syaoran in the earlier photo. The HM plushies are sososo cute <3 It's no wonder you got it.

Ah! The Kay and little Kay from the gathering are my friends from around my cosplay vicinity. I spazzed when I saw a photo of you from their AX facebook uploads. There were a lot of good guests. I wasn't able to attend half of the concerts or panels though. There was so much going on. :O The Megumi and May'n concert was very spectacular indeed. Quite an experience. Even better when Yoko Kanno appeared!

I didn't take very many pictures on the first day, but I think I made up for that on the later days, haha. Some of the cosplays were very, very cool. Artbook!Syaoran was especially pretty! The HM stand makes me want to play HM now with all their cute stuff. |D

Whoa! That's pretty awesome. If I had known they knew you, I'd at least say hi. I kind of just roped them into these photos with Edgeworth and Gumshoe. What a small world! I ran into a lot of people I wasn't able to meet in previous years, so maybe this year was special. :D

Oh woowow these pictures are great! Some of the costumes look excellent. Yeah I see why these two got a lot of photos, their costumes look amazing! It was hand made right? I've never been to a cosplay event, but damn dkhgldfkg looks like so much fun! I suppose the first hurdle to come across is choosing who go as XDD

I think the lighting on the dark pictures came out well :D And that blurring effect in some of the photos is awesome 8D

The costumes of those two were amazing! I especially loved the white one. I'm not sure if they're from a series or if they're original, but they were amazing no matter where they're from. Cosplay gatherings can be pretty entertaining, though sometimes disorganized. I liked the Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney gathering this time. It was a good size, and I managed to get lots of individual pics of people. :D Deciding who to go as is hard!

I was trying to bring out the brighter colors a little, but our faces in those three photos on that weird rock like thing still look pretty dark. :3 Was fun experimenting though.

That's only because I'm hiding those thighs!! But thank you~ ♥

I don't mind at all. :3 I'm happy there were plenty of Phoenix Wright cosplayers about. I wish some of the Phoenix cosplayers had gone to the gathering though. Oh coolness, another Ema! :D I did this version because I absolutely loved her socks and her hat when I was playing Investigations, and it was something I could piece together, minus a few parts.

It was very awesome to see Saiunkoku cosplayers. I usually don't see them around. Aw, no one recognized you? Sadness! Which outfit of his did you do? :3

Ice Climbers is a game I miss too. Gosh, I can never forget the bgm and how much I failed to grab onto the bird at the end all the time. =/

He was the most in character Kefka I've ever seen. He went around the convention laughing maniacally whenever anyone stopped him for a photo. His costume and makeup were so well done too. *___*

We all screamed at that. IT WAS SO CUTE. And he also talked about how America's version of Marukaite Chikyuu was sung at the top of his high range, so much that he can't sing it casually at karaoke. Now I feel like listening to America's version of the song again. |D

You might have, but I love hearing it. 8D Ensembles are totally doable! You have been piecing together things too, haven't you? :3 Okay, maybe not fat, but flabby. D:

The Sal Manella cosplayer had a towel (lost it but found it again) and was doing that saliva dripping pose. Gosh. XD; People do cosplay Daryan! I've seen a few around. The hair, my gosh, I don't know how they do it. XD I know huh, where did all the Phoenix cosplayers go?? I know I saw them around the convention! I guess the last day was too late for them. As for the megaphone, a good friend of the Gumshoe cosplayer's normally cosplays Meekins, but he had to leave before Sunday and decided to retire his costume after AX. So they set up a retirement dinner for him, and during it he gave the megaphone to Gumshoe. And that's the attempted logic of the megaphone. >>;

I first saw Frilly Tadase from the back and immediately recognized the cosplay. It was fun. I almost couldn't remember that he had a sword because I only remembered the frills. XD;

I only went to Konishi's main panel but not the Gurren Lagann one with the cosplay contest. That one must have been fun too. Konishi seems to be a pretty amusing guy. :3

You haven't seen the Lakers statue? It was right outside the Staples Center between there and the Nokia! I saw so many people take pics there, so I wanted a pic too. XDD

I saw Yasuaki drift around the Artist Alley and finally, she drifted in front of my table. XD

When I saw the Kobato cosplayer, she didn't have Ioryogi out (he probably slipped). But once I stopped her for a pic, she pulled him out. So cute. ♥

I pretty much slept through everything. 0____0;; Thanks for having us. This was the first time I've ever stayed so close! It was really convenient. gem2niki and I probably wouldn't have stayed there if it weren't for rooming with everyone.
