seven topics from troisroyaumes

Lucathia posts on DW! \o/ 7 topics from [personal profile] troisroyaumes. I am very long-winded here.

1. latest fishbone-themed acquisition
I believe... a fishbone wire holder was what I last acquired (looks like this). I already had a few of these, but I was given another one as a present.

Latest I bought myself was some fishbone clips (it's been a few months). I wonder if they would make good bookmarks. I've been too fond of the fish-shaped packaging to even cut this open, haha.

2. crossover ideas for Hikago
...I seem to have written 4 Hikago crossovers so far, one shortfic, two that I never finished, and one that I buried because it never got past the starting line. (Those series being Ouran High School Host Club, Prince of Tennis, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Shaman King). So, I've already gone through quite some crossover fancies of mine. :3

I recently watched Hikaru no Go again, and since I've also been watching Natsume Yuujinchou, I've been thinking that crossing these two series would be fun.

Sai's disappearance didn't move me or hit me very hard when I first watched Hikaru no Go because I half expected him to show up again (I had stumbled on spoilers about Sai's disappearance and was under the impression that it was just a temporary thing), but every time I reread or rewatch Hikago now, I end up feeling lonely when the story gets to Sai's disappearance, and my heart aches for Hikaru and Sai. And Touya Kouyo for sitting across an empty go board. Natsume Yuujinchou captures loneliness and wistfulness beautifully, which is why I'd love to see a crossover between Hikaru no Go and Natsume Yuujinchou.

Natsume also has his fair share of speaking to air and doing strange things because of what he can see and what others can't. He and Hikaru and probably empathize with each other, and Natsume can, most likely, understand the loss Hikaru suffered. Though a crossover set when Sai is still around would be quite something to see too.

As for how it can be done... well, Natsume does transfer a lot, so perhaps he can even transfer to Hikaru's middle school at some point... though then we would be getting pre-series Natsume who hasn't yet grown into himself.

Hmmmm, Hikaru no Go x Chihayafuru would also be awesome. I felt like watching Hikaru no Go again partly because of Chihayafuru (based on karuta). Intense matches FTW! A crossover where the go club runs into the karuta club (with each other's thoughts on the other club) might be fun.

3. comfort food
Chocolate chip cookies! I love chocolate chip cookies, though part of this is just an excuse to eat chocolate, which I don't eat much of outside of chocolate chip cookies because I feel bad about eating chocolate. But not about eating chocolate chip cookies.

Whenever I feel sick... definitely corn soup. With egg~.

4. your fic-writing process (e.g. do you outline? do you write linearly? do you prefer pen on paper?)
I start with an idea or a title, and then I write. I have some scenes and dialogue in mind, and usually an ending as well, but otherwise I don't know what's going to happen until I get there. When I outline, which I don't always do, my outline consists of snatches of dialogue and snippets of scenes that often end up not fitting by the time I get to that part of the story. My stories tend to run away from me and have a mind of their own.

I prefer word processing over pen on paper. I can't stop myself from rereading what I've just written over and over again, adding more or changing things. I'm rarely satisfied by what first comes out onto the screen, so when I write on paper... it's very messy. Lots of crossed out sentences, arrows this way and that... but what's most frustrating is that I can't move scenes around! My notebook is full of incomplete scribblings (that end up being completed on the computer).

5. your thoughts on crossdressing manga as a genre
I was recently asked what the appeal of such manga was to me. Genderbender is one of my favorite genres, especially when it involves crossdressing, though reincarnation and body-swapping are also entertaining. I've been reading crossdressing manga for quite some time, starting with ones like Mintna Bokura where Noeru crossdresses as a girl in order to follow his sister into her new school because of his attachment to her, to Never Give Up where Kiri crossdresses as a male model to get closer to Tooya, and such. I didn't realize until later that many of my favorites were all genderbenders. Here's what I like about them.

1. secrets
Many times, characters who are crossdressing keep it a secret that they're not the gender they're presenting. Sometimes, they crossdress to take on a second identity, such as performing as an idol. Needing to keep a secret keeps me hooked, as I always wonder how they'll go about keeping their secret, or if they'll ever get exposed.

2. sharing the secret
I love it when a select few find out and end up keeping the secret for the character, allowing a bond to form over this.

3. different interactions with the opposite gender
Not only does the crossdressing character experience what it's like to be treated as the opposite gender, the opposite gender also generally ends up interacting differently with the character. Sometimes (especially when romance is involved), this means characters first start off as friends without being bounded by the thought that one's a girl and one's a boy.

4. aesthetics
...I just really like the look of handsome women and beautiful men.

5. misunderstandings that result
When characters get flustered over falling in love with someone who is supposedly the same gender, but they're actually crossdressing... or when someone falls for someone who they think is the opposite gender, but is actually crossdressing... it usually leads to some realizations.

6. blurred gender lines
Who says girls can't do this? Or that guys can't do that?

Though if I were to sum up my thoughts on crossdressing manga as a genre, it would be that it's an easy plot-device to get me to at least give the series a read. :3

6. the appeal of Shounen Jump series
So many ideas. Shounen Jump gave us sport series like Hikaru no Go, Prince of Tennis, Slam Dunk, Whistle!, and battle series like Yu Yu Hakusho, Hunter x Hunter, Bleach, Shaman King, Naruto, and slice of life series like Bakuman, and historical series like Rurouni Kenshin, and romantic stories like Pretty Face...

I find many series that have run in Shounen Jump to be interesting, and perhaps because of how Jump ranks the series that run in the magazine, mangaka have to strive to make every chapter worth it. So many chapters end in cliffhangers...

As a reader, it feeds the addiction to be able to have new chapters to read every week.

I also like that Jump is not romance focused, and that series span over a few different genres. I especially like series that center around a specialized something, like Hikaru no Go on go, Bakuman on manga making, etc.

(I am sad that Jump cancels series that don't do well in the polls. I will be forever sad about Double Arts' cancellation).

7. live-action Ruroken!!!
I haven't seen it! I've seen some pictures though. I like the idea. I don't think I'll be disappointed. I wonder what it covers. :D *goes to watch a trailer* Looks pretty cool to me, hee.

There's also going to be a new Ruroken manga? Possibly because of the movie hype? :3 I would love to see more of Soujiro...

:O Hello!

That packaging looks cool. :3

*____* Yes, HnG/Natsume crossover! And maybe Sai isn't as gone as Hikaru thinks, so Natsume can see him!

"As for how it can be done... well, Natsume does transfer a lot, so perhaps he can even transfer to Hikaru's middle school at some point... though then we would be getting pre-series Natsume who hasn't yet grown into himself."
There's been a couple of episodes where Natsume meets/is seen by his former classmates, so that could happen? Natsume's with the Fujiwaras but meets Hikaru, maybe when Hikaru's trying to find Sai?

...I want chocolate chip cookies now... :P

I think my writing process is similar to yours? It varies on the fic how detailed my planning gets.

I definitely enjoy the blurred gender lines in genderbenders, and the misunderstandings are also fun too. :3
