Fanime
So I've been back from Fanime... for almost a week already but haven't announced that in my own journal! :'D I think my summer sluggishness has already hit me this year. It seems to happen to me every year where I just don't feel like doing anything. Last year this happened, I took on some drabble requests. That woke me up! Though I never did finish the last few requests. XD;; Maybe I should do the same this time... but maybe later. I have some drabbles I owe people and tons of comments to make and answer. :3
So Fanime. I didn't attempt to do much at Fanime this year. Took things easy. Cosplay took me a while to put on everyday, so by the time I reached the convention center, it was always around 1-2 PM. I basically missed half of each day. :') I always left the con around 10-11 pm each day, which meant I wasn't at the convention center too long either. I got to chat with a lot of people and even some strangers. Cosplay sure is an easy way of getting into conversations about different series! When I wasn't at the dealers or wandering the artist alley (or doing my brief stint of helping
jen_kat w/ carrying stuff for swap meet)... I hung around
gem2niki's table and sort of helped sell stuff. I didn't even feel like exploring the rest of the convention or going to gatherings to take photos like I usually do. ^^;; I should have visited some more panels since there were quite some good guests!
Every night when I got home... I worked some more on my Elsea cosplay. XD; I wanted to wear it for Fanime, but I didn't even have the cloth cut by the time the convention started. My parents ended up helping me sew most of the outfit when I wasn't home, and at night I'd try the outfit on and we'd make adjustments. I never thought I would be one of those people who were still working on cosplay during convention time... I usually finish beforehand!! I was going to give up and leave Elsea for my next convention (Anime Expo at the start of July), but then my dad said if I did that, I'd probably still be working on the outfit right until the very last minute. The result would be the same anyway, whether I did it now or later. Ugh, procrastination. XD;; And then
jen_kat, who was translating for Yokota Mamoru for the weekend, said that Yokota-san was taking pics of cosplayers from The World God Only Knows to show to the mangaka of the series since they're friends. :O I guess that managed to give me and my parents the last push to finish the outfit. XD; It is so hastily made though! Need to make some fixes still. I hope I look okay in Yokota-san's pic... :'D
The convention itself felt a lot more crowded this year. Were there a lot more attendees? Every day, the hallway was packed! And even at night when I'm used to the crowds thinning, there were still quite a lot of people. I hope the location will still be enough to hold all the attendees next year. I was looking stuff up about Fanime when I came back...looking at the stats is quite amazing, and even as an attendee who experienced the gradual growth, the numbers hasn't quite hit me until now. I started attending Fanime in 2000. There were only 2,300 attendees at that time. Last year for 2010, there were 16,000. The growth is quite amazing. I find it a little hard to remember what it was like back then when there were only 2,300 attendees (and when Fanime wasn't even on a set weekend).
Some thoughts about the concert (Matsushita Yuya & FLOW), Masquerade, and then pics of cosplayers below the cut!
Matsushita Yuya & FLOW concert
There was one big concert on Sat featuring both Matsushita Yuya & FLOW, with FLOW coming after Matsushita Yuya. That meant there were fans of FLOW waiting in the audience for FLOW to come out and fans of Yuya staying behind even after Yuya finished singing. XD; I don't know how well that worked. XD; I liked having them both on the same day! I found it funny though since the guys behind me were obviously there for FLOW and seemed impatient while Matsushita Yuya was dancing and singing on stage, and the girls in front were obviously there for Yuya (they were exhausted by the time FLOW came out). There was even one guy next to me who seemed to be there for one specific FLOW song. He was sleeping for most of the concert but woke up when one song came on. Then he was up and about and putting his hands in the air. Right after that song, he left!! I guess that was really all he went there for!
Right before the concert, I was at Yoshimatsu Takahiro's character design panel with
gem2niki. Was an interesting panel! He's the animation director for a few series (Trigun, for one). He explained some stuff about characters, creating characters based on their characteristics (he gave an example about Inazuma Eleven and how there are over 1000 characters there, so one way to distinguish them was through the connection between their hairstyles and their names). He started designing a character based of off ideas suggested by the audience, but I didn't stay until the end because I didn't want to miss the start of the concert.
The concert was very cool. <3 Matsushita Yuya sings the ending song to Durarara!! and played Sebastian in the Kuroshitsuji musicals, so he of course talked about this and sung those songs. XD; I liked a lot of his other songs too! And he was an awesome dancer. I loved how he looked with his backup dancers, and he can sure dance in a suit. XD; He taught the audience how to say Sebastian's famous line, "Watashi wa akuma de shitsuji desu kara". I went to his autograph session the day after to get him to sign this poster of mine of him as Sebastian:

I somehow have 2 Kuroshitsuji musical posters because of the GFantasy magazines that I buy (Kuroshitsuji, the manga, runs in that magazine). XD; People in the autograph line were asking me where I got my poster. XD
FLOW came to Fanime last year. I'm surprised they returned again in just one year! It was great to have them back~. My favorite song is still their Naruto songs, GO!! and Sign. I like Days from Eureka seveN too, but I now associate that with my work because that's my ringtone for work calls. XD;;
Masquerade
I missed the very beginning of this, but there was a skit going on before the start of the actual Masquerade. I walked in when a woman was singing the opera song from Final Fantasy VI. I loved it a lot. :D ♥ After that, the walk ons started. There was a meta knight cosplay that looked very cool! The karaoke winner of the year sang after the walk ons. She sang one of the openings for Rurouni Kenshin. Made the song very lively. Didn't know the song could sound like that!
My favorite skit was the Portal one because it just looked very cool and professional. And now I want to play more of Portal. XD; I've only tried it out but haven't actually played it, but I know enough to know that that skit was very cool.
Portal skit
Haha, first thing that turned up for me when I did a search for videos!
Dissidia skit - loved the costumes for this one!
D.Gray-man dancing - very cool dancing. I also find it amusing that we can tell who everyone is mostly just by their hairstyle
FFVI battle - yay for FFVI!
Code Geass Hansel & Gretel AU - I like how this was done! felt that people who don't know the series could probably enjoy this too.
Avatar skit - Loved how they did the fire bending/water bending/etc!
Star Driver skit - won best Comedy.
Four people sitting around a table, venting their frustration - This just made me want to write fanfic. XD;
Surprisingly (and thankfully), there weren't too many meme stuff like carmelldansen (there still was some) or repetitive series chosen, though there was quite some Pokemon and Final Fantasy. I think there was only 1 One Piece skit and no... Naruto or Bleach? Or maybe I just forgot about them. XD;;
Cosplayer photos
And now for some cosplay photos! :D

First photo I took. When I got there on Friday, I was pretty late and the Phoenix Wright gathering was already starting. Instead of getting my badge, I hung around the fountain area waiting for the gathering to start. These two were posing and being cool behind a pole, so I took their picture. XD; Bunny ears! Star wand!
Since I was part of the Phoenix Wright gathering and didn't have anyone with me, I'm not in any of these pics. I took pics of other people though!

She was so cute! We also took a self photo together on her camera.

She had a ring pop. :D

Lined up in order of height? XD; If you look closely in the glass to the right, there's me being reflected there!! XD;; I'm in orange with a white band on my head.

Prosecutors.

Plus Gumshoe!

Supporting characters.

I think this was a villains pic or something like that.

Apollo came late! (But yesss, there was an Apollo!)

The young ones! Apollo is looking this way! :DDD Thank you for looking into the camera even though I was off to the side...
]
Gumshoe getting a pay cut. :')

Young Phoenix and Dahlia.

A nice even number here.

The magical girls. XD

Poor Gumshoe!

Another prosecutors pic, this time with Godot included!

They then got arranged into a different pose.

And suddenly, Layton! XD; I so want to play that crossover...

hey, there's an orange scheme going on. (Both of you look amazing!!)

This was pretty hilarious. <3 Guy to the right is a very cool person though I don't know him very well.

Regina's curls are lovely. :D

She looks very enthusiastic!
That's it for my Ace Attorney gathering pics. :3

I saw her while waiting in line for my badge. Didn't manage to catch her until later! She's a... jellyfish, I think? Possibly a pokemon? Was very cool and cute! She blew bubbles whenever someone stopped her to take her pic~

kaleidoscopic27 in her Kaito cosplay from Vocaloid!! XD; I knew she was going to dress up as this, but even when she stopped in front of g2n's table, I was still kind of staring for a bit before going, "hi, I'm Lucathia?" just to make sure. XD; (Yay, glad to see you again! Your cosplay was gorgeous!)

This year's theme was Steampunk (but this is not Steampunk, is it?) so I was expecting some Steampunk cosplayers, but I don't think I saw many (or any)?

A driftloon from Pokemon! So many pokemon cosplayers! Of pokemon! XD; Instead of the trainers.

An amazing Avatar cosplayer. Had to ask him how he did his nose... in fact, I'm curious about how he did his ears and the painting job too...

I don't follow Arakawa Under the Bridge, but I recognized them because of my TCGs.

Tegami Bachi cosplayers! Saw lots of cosplayers of the Bees, but!! Noir! Rhoda! I need to continue watching the anime and start reading the manga. *___*

Came in one day to a very large FF gathering. Very large. I snapped a pic from the side since the photographers in the front were too close.

There were lots of Star Driver cosplayers about! Amazing hair~

Ema! I always take more notice of cosplayers when I've cosplayed that character before. XD; Spotted an Eureka too.

Turned around and saw Canada with a huge bear. I couldn't resist asking if I could pet the bear. I guess she got that a lot from random people. XD;

FFVII~

More Pokemon cosplay. I find his nose amazing.

Crowley from D.Gray-man. I love their pose!

Avatar.

They were quite young. :D

*cough* Ayumu from Kore wa Zombie desu ka? in his masou shoujo transformation. I haven't watched the series but I did watch his transformation sequence. XD; It really has to be a guy for this cosplay to have its full effect. I was very... impressed with this cosplay. XD

They are just so cute. The kid on the left had his hands curled up! There was a random team rocket cosplayer that was giving the hugs. Something like that. XD

This guy was in the Avatar skit for Masquerade. Took this pic before I knew that though. XD; He had quite a good stare! Some random person near me said "he must've practiced that glare." XDD

Very cool outfits.

Some Fire Emblem cosplay~

Princess Tutu. Was just taking a pic of Tutu and Fakir before the other two walked over too.

Howl's Moving Castle.

Alois without his butler. =P

The Dissidia group from Masquerade.

Me and a Keima! Who wasn't very talkative. XD; Only pic of me I have as Elsea at the convention. XD; When I wore this, lots of people told me I was the only Elsea they saw... which confused me because I'd seen a lot the day before (at least 3). Maybe they weren't cosplaying on Sunday... huh. XD;; This outfit is so last minute. LKADJ;FA;DKFA;L I basically put it on for the first time this day since we'd just finished making it. Stuff was kind of falling apart. I have lots to fix~, like that hagoromo for one! I wired it, but the wire wasn't strong enough. My band around my neck was also opening, so I had to tape it when it was supposed to stay closed by itself! Made it the same way as Eureka's band around her neck (from Eureka seveN). This outfit was fairly simple, but people still commented that it was cute or pretty. <3 I like the purple scheme! It was fun to wear because lots of people asked me about where I was from if they didn't know already, so I started introducing people to the World God Only Knows. XD; For people that did know the series, I got to chat with them about it. :D

Maya cosplay, pic taken at home in my messy kitchen. I pretty much used my own hair for her impossible hairstyle. XD; I deemed my wig not long enough, so I didn't want to use it because it wouldn't look right anyway. It turned out into quite a hair extension nightmare to put this cosplay on. XD; The heels were also killing me since I never wear heels. :') I bought a longer wig that will hopefully come in time for AX because I certainly don't want to spend three hours doing my hair every day! I don't think orange is my color. XD; There was an orange Magikarp cosplayer wandering around in the Artist Alley. I went to take a pic with that cosplayer since I was very orange too. XD;;; I'm all beat from last minute cosplay sewing, but perhaps I'll attempt Maya's normal outfit for 2012... for this waitress outfit, the orange cloth was leftover from my Rikkai cosplay. XD; I still have a lot of it left! I bought a lot hoping to make long Rikkai pants too as well as a second jacket for my brother, but I remember giving up after making one jacket. XD; And I was the only one with an orange jacket anyway. Everyone used a yellower color.
My mom was kind of surprised that I chose to cosplay two girls this time instead of cosplaying a guy. XD;; I like cosplaying guys since most of my favorite characters are guys, haha, and I'm certainly flat enough to cosplay guys... but I've actually only cosplayed guys four times! That's not a lot. Touya Akira, Kirihara Akaya, Soren, and Tadase (sometimes Kairi). I think that was it. XD;
Girls... it's almost always short skirts. I don't like exposing my legs. XDD;; Or arms! For Ema and Elsea, it's not so bad since they have long socks. I love long socks!
Writing this kind of makes me want to cosplay some male character. XD;

Elsea cosplay. Although the sandals were more comfortable, they were also not mine and too small. I ended up with scraped skin by the end of the day. D: Still have a scar at the moment... I used a very long clip on ponytail that you can't see in this pic. Hair reached all the way to my butt! XD; Was very, very heavy. I don't think Elsea's hair is actually that long in the manga, but I think it's longer in the anime. Whatever. I think it looked good having hair that long for the cosplay. XD;
After the convention, I went with my friends to the mall and bought a firetruck toy. I'm so going to take cosplay photos with my toy firetruck as Elsea! XD;

Stuff I bought. :3 I'm not into almost all of the stuff that's being sold in the dealer's room... I don't know if it's a good thing or not that series I like are too obscure or unpopular for merchandise. :'D Saves me some money, I guess. ^^;; I bought some plushies of pokemon and some from Nemu Nemu (the dogs and chick) as well as some shirts and a few prints from the Artist Alley. Oh~, I also bought Mario Galaxy from Swap Meet because it was the Japanese edition! Whoot! I have a Japanese Wii. Makes it hard to buy games locally. XD; Usually have to use Play-asia or something like that!
That was it for Fanime! Managed to see
kaleidoscopic27,
dyaoka,
yoshikochan, and others for a little bit.
jen_kat was staying at my house... otherwise I didn't see her much! I'll be going to Anime Expo at the end of this month. Will still be bringing the same cosplay. If anyone's going to AX, let me know~ :D My AX plans at the moment are... pretty non-existent. Just helping out with selling stuff. Also bought tickets for the Hatsune Miku concert, I think.
